so you know how in diablo 2 you had the fallen image, and there would be different colors. dark one, carver, fallen. do you think they will do the same in diablo 3?
this was a thought i had and i would not like to see this idea returning in Diablo 3.
The only thing I don't want to see is the blatant, neon discoloration on monsters (and items) that didn't seem natural, even by fantasy standards. Changed colors and skins here and there, where appropriate, are whole-heartedly welcome, though.
You will have 50 different monsters in the game instead of 10 times that.
Is that what you really want?
Changing a monster instead of just creating a whole new model for it... do you know how much work creating a new monster is? There is a reasons for all of this.
The only hope you should have is that the colorization is done better. Some may look a bit stupid in D2, I don't disagree, but it created a lot of variations in the monsters, and didn't make it look like you fought the same.
Sure, you always fight "fallens", but it doesn't feel the same beating up Carvers, and you know they are strong - and many other monsters like this can then look slightly different.
This is the only way you will ever have hundreds of different monsters in the game.

Actually the differences between monsters of the same family in D2 are only the level and the stats. They don't have different skills and AI wich is what really makes you feel that you're facing a different enemy.
But you're right. They can't creat a million models to fill all the areas of the game. Another option is just put the same monster but with a higher level, but change the color and name is way much better then that.
I would just like to see some change in the monster skills. For exemple, Fallen Shaman uses a firebolt-like spell. The Carver Shaman could use another spell and the Dark Shaman another, etc... This way things would look a little bit fresher while you advance in the game.
Instead of just a change in color they could alter their form slightly, add some stuff, maybe some tattoos, heavier armor or something.
It wouldn't be completely creating a new monster, but merely altering the current one to a satisfying standard.

You sure?
Those vampire things in Act 1 can't use Meteors but they can later. Thats really the only example I had. Not saying there were a lot if any, and yes there should be more, and I hope there is more in D3.
That would work more for uniques and super-unique monsters. Instead of some of the monsters variations.
Well no, I mean in terms of like Tribe identification. Say the falllen have one symbol on their arm and another for others.

I found nothing wrong with this method...
It added variety, and it added it easily.
As SFJake said, you can take 50 monsters, or about 10 times that with colour variations.
Sure, it's the same model, but the stats are different, so the difficulty is constantly being raised and changed.

Right, they are a exception for what I've said. Theres also minor exceptions, like the fallens in nightmare/hell (every type use a different elemental attack). I wish it was a rule, not a exception.
Color variation is good. It reduces the number of enemy models that Blizz has to create and therefore speeds up everything else from development to game play.
And when it really comes down to it, they all just become a bloody mess in the end.

HI blizz.. I looked at the video and saw the Hound came up it was more red on the picture that you made and when I saw him in action he were more yellow then red i think you should make him more red and black like the other ones..
There are generally multiple variations within a species.

I'm glad that it seems like Blizzard willl be keeping the colour-coded versions of monsters because I really liked that in the Diablo games. I think that might have been because it gave me the feeling of entering "the next level" of difficulty which created some sense of progression in the game.
Still, I agree with Seth when he says that he doesn't want the neon-coloured monsters of Diablo 2 which I really don't think would look good with the graphics and art direction that Blizzard is using for Diablo 3. They would just clash with the already bright areas of Diablo 3 and that wouldn't do at all.
So basically I want colour-coded monsters but with the colours being less bright than the ones in Diablo 2.
I don't think we were talking about the differences between the difficulty levels? Because they did make every monsters quite different depending on which difficulty level you meet it in.
No, no... I'm talking about the difference between every menber of the fallen family in the nightmare mode.. They hve attack of different elements (wich makes their difference more then just a skin color, name and some more stats).

Now, on topic, different monster with the same model but with different colors is confirmed:

My thoughts exactly, I mean dont get me wrong you need some randomness in the monsters but we do just end up slaughtering them anyway...
