From what I know thus far, nothing has been officially announced or implied by the Blizzard team in regards to whether Bnet will be P2P or free.
I'm not completely sure, but in terms of the marketing perspective, wouldn't it be beneficial to assure the Diablo community that there wont be any monthly subscriptions? At least to put our fears to rest.
If this idea is most logical, since they haven't done it yet, doesn't this mean it most likely WILL be P2P?
Then you know very little. It has been "confirmed" that battle.net 2.0 is free to play (jay wilson only mentioned monetized features). Some features like name changes and such will have a cost and people can pay for those services. Ofc this all could change but I think it is unlikely.
http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19472 In the first page in the news section we have some solid facts that starcraft2 is free in battle.net so why would they make d3 pay2play when it uses the same environment.
Since a definitive answer has been given, and there have been many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many, many threads on the topic, I'ma close this one.
Thanks, akse.

RIP: Demon Hunter: lvl 50 | Barb: lvl 60 (plvl 5) | Monk: lvl12 & lvl70 (plvl 200)
Yes, I agree with you, it would be ridiculous to make D3 P2P when starcraft isn't. Thanks, my fears have been cleared.
Thanks, akse.
