Then I guess those angels and the Pandemonium fortress were both just figments of my imagination (Well, I digress. They're more or less only emanations of the High Heavens, as opposed to being the High Heavens.)
The reason it probably doesn't fit is because we've never seen it before.
I don't think there would be a Heaven act though... What do you kill in Heaven?
So it would either be on the outskirts of Heaven/Hell or in a cinematic
Or perhaps we visit a part of Heaven that has recently been destroyed and taken over by Hell, and we're the ones to reclaim it
Heaven isn't necessarily your friend. They are potentially as much a threat to Sanctuary as Hell is. So it's hardly inconceivable that you could be sent there. But Heaven does seem a little more united than Hell is. And it doesn't seem like it would be as easy to sneak in there and accomplish your objective. When you arrive in Hell in D2, everything seems so ragtag. TeNKaWoToRu
I wouldn't be too sure though. This could very well be the last Diablo game made. They may wish to give players a chance to traverse the High Heavens. I just wouldn't discount the possibility yet.
I suppose it wouldn't be too far fetched (especially after the lore added in the Sin War novels) for a person from Sanctuary to destroy an Angel from the Angiris Council
We've killed Prime Evils before, and our hero will be even stronger in Diablo 3
this is why i think you wont see a heaven. angels do not want the high heavens tainted by the humans. tyreal is the only angel that helps any one in the sanctuary. i forgot the other angels anme but he pretty much just wanted to get rid of the humans for destroying gods creation and tyreal.....hrmm just thought of a plot ... but yea some angel didnt want humans in the sanctuary for destroying gods green goodness and tryreal had to stop him. read it in one of the diablo books i think or some were. i know way to much about the diablo lore...
It could very well be that the Burning Hells have finally laid siege to the High Heavens and you need to liberate it. Who knows? Like Siaynoq said, it would be unwise to discount the possibility. Especially when we know so little of the game as it is.

how is a human suppost to get to heaven? flap his arms or rub his heels togethor. without any help we wouldnt of gone to hell to begin with... so yea unless for some odd reason tyreal thinks we need to go to heaven... which we dont even know if tyreal is still good.... is the only way up.

angels? demons? but no god? i mean wtf is a paladin praying to then? there is a god just like there might be in our world but he wont step in.

You really think in this fictional world that some sort of plot device couldn't be fashioned to allow us access to heaven? Technically we were given no help getting into Hell either. The Prime Evils might not have suspected any mortal to summon the tenacity to go into the heart of Kurast and into Mephisto's prison, let alone the actual Infernal Gate. You seem almost indignant about the possibility of getting into Heaven.

Sanctuary was created by angels, dear. It's strictly angels and demons in Diablo. Well, angels, demons, and humans. And animals. And elementals.
Wow, so off topic. Yeah, so, Heaven. Shiny citadels.
Sorry, this will probably piss some of you off, but I kind of picture its heaven similar to Minas Tirith- with the streaming banners, sky-high towers, white masonry and marblework, and so on. Of course, more orderly than even that. More "perfect".
this game is about ripping demons up and mutilating monsters in the sanctuary in traversing the depths of hell to pwn the big bad diablo. not go to heaven and wage war on cloud 9.... why would we go to heaven when we have to fight on earth. how would the demons get to heaven when they already have such a hard time getting to earth...well not anymore since the world stone is destroyed. but i think demons are gunna be to occupied with the sanctuary maybe a expac but not in d3. sorry im not trying to be rude i just like debating
I doubt that it will be the last Diablo game made, the last of this story arc perhaps (although I would be surprised if there wasn't an expansion at least) but it's more likely than not that there's sufficient money left in the Diablo series that they're going to continue the franchise in some way or another.
Now, Heaven in Diablo...hmmm...that's actually an interesting concept. There seems to be very little information on what the place actually looks like, although the Diablo 1 manual does mention a crystal arch of some sort at the center of Heaven if I'm not mistaken. However, I don't think the lush, happy environments would cut it for Heaven in Diablo.
I think that I'd imagine the place as a mighty citadel of marble and steel. Armed patrols marching all over the place whilst down sidestreets and in white-stone squares angelic warriors train tirelessly. I think that everything would be very clean, maybe even "beautiful" in terms of excellent craftsmanship, white-stone streets, marble buildings and so forth, but also very Spartan in terms of having very little decoration and being very practical and made for war, if you know what I mean. Everything would be very orderly and symmetrical. There would be bastions, walls, drill halls and so forth everywhere, the whole place would be like a nation in a state of total war (which it more or less is). So, in summary, everything is geared towards warfare in some way, virtually all of the buildings are martial in purpose, there are angelic soldiers everywhere guarding and training and there's very little organic matter. Everything is made with a practical purpose and sports very little decoration.
I also think that the angels would be more likely to use righteous mortal spirits/souls to bolster or support the ranks, rather than just have them lay idly about.
Yaerius, Inarius and Trag Oul' could be considered god-like figures, but not Gods in our omnipotent and omniscient sense of the word... No Zeus's, Jehovahs or Allahs
It would be interesting if Heaven was full of heat and light, but without fire. From a mortal perspective it would look like a mirage
Or the water idea would give alot of potential for strange refractions and reflections
I doubt the Diablo 3 engine is even capable of rendering anything as cool looking as what we would expect from Heaven
Okay then. Why? I think the issue here is that you're picturing Heaven like some show on Cartoon Network with frilly little babies playing harps in the nude on giant marshmallows.
What could be more epic than the Host of Hell contrasting the Light of the High Heavens at the very threshold of the angels? What could be more polarized than complete, burning chaos set against perfect order? The light of angels falling to battle against the rising hordes of Hell before the walls of Heaven? What could be more spectacular than forgotten magics of all kinds and natures raining down upon the ramparts? What confrontation could possibly be more beautiful than the Prime or Minor Evils pitched against the Angiris Council and the armies of the Light?
Heaven is an enemy to Sanctuary just as Hell is. If either side wins, we lose.
I agree with Maggie with Heaven being kind of like Minas Tirith. But also with lots of crystals! Whats more perfect than the formation of crystals? Symmetrical, complex, beautiful, life. Like snowflakes.
And I agree with Siay, NPC's in Heaven would be confusing. Although, if we are in Heaven to fight them, the only NPC's there would be demons helping us, or Angels who fight for the Balance.
As far as plot events to allow your hero to go to Heaven, perhaps with all the speculation about Tyreal being evil, he is infact evil and fled back to Heaven. Or maybe Tyreal has done something to betray Heaven and your hero has to go there to try and stop Tyreal.

1) There is no god in Sanctuary.
2) Refer to #1.

I really can't think of one.
