I would say that I could get even more into the story of 20 years later, if I would see the monsters from d1, d2, and they would seem older..
This doesn't need to be all of them, but imagine seeing those old stick things (from act 2) and they are older, weaker, but there are many in numbers.. Or they are smarter, and won't let you attack them as easy..
It would be cool to see a really old shaman, as if he was from d2. He would be older, and he learned "new" skills.
For example the younger "Fallen Shamans" have the same fireball, revive, and melee attacks like they had in d2. BUT, the older fallen shamans (from d2) they learned new skills, and can maybe freeze you, curse you, shoot lighting at you etc..
Maybe you see old monsters and they have changed a little, grew weaker, or grew stronger.
I would really feel like it was 20 years later. They could have old, and young versions..

the concept of having different aged monsters is pretty interesting, it would add some depth to the game and make the monsters seem like they have a kind of social structure.

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]I find your lack of faithdisturbing.
Its a great idea. The only problem with it is that mythical creatures, angels and demons are not really known for aging.
Aging is a mortal human attribute in terms of the human archetype that symbolizes how precious our lives are.
Usually demons and angels are always the same age. Some may look a bit more worn down from war.
Now, I'm not saying it isn't feasible at all. I think it would work quite well, it just doesn't seem to be anything that anybody else has done before, which is probably a good thing.

Likewise. Now some demons obviously grow older (Sand Maggots and Vile Children for example). But I seriously doubt older demons get the downsides we do such as back pain, grey hair and similar. Usually older demons are always regarded as more powerful.
However in that sense the idea could still work. In a sense, Unique monsters from D2 incorporate this very concept, without the visual representation. Special monsters that spawn randomly with vastly better attributes.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

Old monsters are interesting but you would think they are already old to have those skills. Animals don't live very long in the first place, therefore they would die. However, they would create new mosnsters by mating with their own kind, so should the monsters look younger? It would be cool if they created stronger monsters of the same ones in D2 because they are the next generation of that same monster.
It would be cool if we stumbled upon a camp of Fallen where Rakanishu + the fallen from D1 from the Stolen Tavern Sign quest + the fallen from act 5 that Baal summons are all together and they go all badass on you kicking your arse like Yoda in the Clone Wars.
I think in the Sin War books it briefly touches on Heaven and Hell... something about waging war over anything and everything since the beginning. The beginning of what? Time maybe. It's only brief, but it could hint at their immortality.
Really, in a fictional universe created like Diablo, you can't argue logic. Life may not exist without death but if Blizzard wanted to, in an instant, to make angels and demons immortal, BOOM, they'd be immortal. Logic be damned, that's the power of imagination, and suddenly all your human theory gets tossed out the window.
Well, you can't say that demons/angels are immortal, or not..we don't know..
But the idea is only implying that they age, it doesn't mean that they die from age. But it still is possible to kill them, meaning they die from my fireball, rather than naturally living..
I agree with the idea that when we kill them, their spirit's go back to the "abyss" and they are reborn.
as far as all of us know, ONLY the Evils, and prime evils are immortal. Or that their spirits constantly live, but use different physical bodies. Either way, their physical bodies still age, and in time they advance their magic, and skill..

Though when you apply that on demons... I'd rather see big hairy demons then killing a kiddy demon that can do a weak fireball....
On a sidenote, then there should be female monsters aswell... To clean up the mess when my barbarian swings by..
lol, there aren't that many women on this forum..

you could see a bunch of the old goat men with better weapons attacking more furiously, while the younger ones have the same axe, and aren't as good..
Some of the monsters would look very cool being old..
I'm not trying to say that the younger ones should suck, but it would be cool to see a few old ones that are better..
Like I said, some do. But for the most part, it's unknown. And big demons like Diablo are obviously immortal.
demons, you can assume live very long, but I would like to see very powerful old warriors, mages, spellcasters from d2
why am I repeating myself, lol..
lol
rakanishu, Snotspill, and i dont know either xD
