Does anyone know if there is going to be a guild function in Battle.net 2.0?
I don't think Blizzard have released any info about it, but it would seem very likely. If there is a guild system it would surely be based around your account and not individual characters. So it would be a part of Battle.net and not the game itself. It makes more sense anyway
If not then the guild system will be organized outside of game with forums and websites, like in Diablo 2
battle.net guilds would be good and easy to implament. grouping could work the same as the xbox live system... see a guildmember is online? wanna play SC2 or D3 with them, just send an invite.
I have a tendency to form guilds on the games I play. When we get closer to the release you'll probably see me forming it.
Dammit, now I want to go build a website and start a Diablo 3 guild... Look what you people have done! (Feel free to PM me if you want to join the future Diablo 3 guild *cries in vain*)
I don't think guilds fit Diablo, specially considering it's an experience focused on single-player and small-parties-at-multiplayer..
I never got into a guild in those MMORPGs I played, including LotR, WoW and 2Moons..
What's the point of guilds in a small-party game like Diablo? (no sarcasm intended.. just want an objetive answer)
What's the point of guilds in a small-party game like Diablo?
Its just giving a name to a group of friends... Unless they add some special guild functions then it wont serve a purpose aside from people just wanting it. People like to feel apart of something, so they can say "Me and my group of friends are better than you and your group of friends"
Or if the guild revolves around being rich, then its label of recognition of being rich

There are guilds/clans in every single multiplayer game ever created. Clans make it easier to stay in touch with a large group of people. For example, Diablo 2 only lets you have 25 friends (if I remember correctly) so what do you do if you have more than 25 friends? And what do you do if you want to communicate with all of them when you're offline? Usually guilds have forums and other means of communication which simply make it easier to stay in contact.
There are a multitude of other reasons to create guilds, such as PvP-centric groups, Baal-run groups, MF groups, ladder running groups, noob groups, the list goes on and on.
Let me just start by saying that I understand that Clans and Guilds are two different things, which although having the same objetive, are different in scope, the guild being much bigger and having broader goals..

Ok, I get it.. I should've said that, while I won't miss guilds, if the majority of players feels the need of having this feature on Diablo, then by all means it should be implemented, I just don't see a purpose..
And also, in games like WoW, Warcraft 3, Starcraft, there's an option where "parties fight each other", they actually compete, and since we haven't seen anything like that for Diablo 3 yet, I just don't see the point.. It segregates players by making they think "OMG, my XXX guild is enemy from the YYY guild, so I can't play with guys that have that tag =O
But I still think it's kind of unnecessary unless there's some sort of multiplayer/party competition in Diablo (which by the way I have suggested in a thread that was closed).. I don't need a clan tag in order to have a group of friends.. A nice friends-tool would suffice to me..
Like I said, unless Diablo has some sort of bigger goal I don't see the necessity of having guilds just for the sake of it, if something has no purpose except showing off that I'm part of Guild X, then by all means I won't miss that given feature..
I'm not saying I'm against this feature, no cons here, I'm just don't see any pro as well.. But if you guys like it
@Zero(pS): Clans and guilds are one and the same thing. Players of fantasy games have adopted the term 'guild' because it is more appropriate.
The purpose of clans/guilds in D3:
- Guild chat channel that you can always use from inside the game
- Guild ladder rankings
- Being able to gather quality players and implement systems that assure their loyalty
- Being able to coordinate events (guild calendar)
- Perks such as the guild bank
- Not having to open games and hope for noobs to join them
- Not having to open games and hope for noobs to join them
Now this would be an important feature of guilds =D
- Guild ladder rankings
And this one assuming that Diablo 3 will have a ladder/rank system apart from the level of the character =) If the rank is determined solely by the level it would be pretty pointless imo.. A character 10 lvls below but with better gear and a proper synergy between skills and gear could be much more powerful..
Now this is a doubt worth being asked in those Blizzcast recordings.. I mean, com'on one guy wasted a question asking: Will buildings and towns be enterable in D3?

There are already many guilds/clans in D2.. they just don't have any kind of UI to manage their guilds or gather up or make themselves seen.
Only a channel you can make and the ugly name tags in front of everyone.

Ladder rankigns have never been about how powerful you are. Imo its more about who has the best determination to keep going up with the levels.
For me the best ones in the ladders are those that play with the worst spec/class/gear and still manage to get high level and ladder rank.
And blizzard has answered to the building question. It was something like: You can enter some buildings, but not all. Some quest involved and story involved buildings, players will be able to enter.

Actually, there is a multitude of Diablo 2 guilds/clans, and a handful of Diablo 1 guilds/clans.
