One of the biggest problems Blizzard will face in programming Diablo III will be appropriate scaling of monsters for players. Seriously, how does one optimally accommodate for 1 player fighting Diablo vs. 6 players fighting Diablo? Also, to face Diablo 1v1 and win is just anticlimactic. If these prime evils are so strong, nobody except for maybe Tyrael should be able to beat him 1v1. That being said, I think that Single Player should be eliminated completely and the game should be built for several players at a time only. What would this do for us?
1.) Might add for a quicker release of Diablo III since programming each fight won't have to scale for just a single player.
2.) Fight scenes will be more epic and chaotic with a must several players on the scene.
3.) Cheating might be less frequent because all resources will be spent to appease the multiplayer crowd and not the single player crowd.
4.) What about those of us with outdated computers and 56k modems? Well, welcome to the 21st century. I mean, come on, with prices as low as they are these days, you should be able to buy a computer that could run d3 for 300 bucks, and pay for cable internet at 20/month. No biggie!
5.) Finally, why would you even want to play single player anyway for a game like Diablo 3? The game is all about trading, questing, and awesome items. Why wouldn't you want to share this with your friends? Seriously.
Single player should stay. Many people don't like to play online or can't play online. The game has its basis and origination as a single player game. No need to change that.

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]"Fool! You have just ensured the doom of this world. You cannot even begin to imagine what you've set in motion this day. Go to the Temple of Light, in the eastern ciry of Kurast. There you will find the gate to Hell opened before you. You must find the courage to step through that gate Marius. Take the stone you hold to the Hellforge, where it will be destroyed. Now run! Take the stone and run!"

Dude, not even you believe that... I've played Diablo 2 since it came out and I've not ever once click on the "Battle.net" button (ok, maybe I did but an error message appeared)... I'm not bored yet... And what about the unlucky us that don't live in the first world? I sure will have a hell lot of PING if try connecting to any of Blizzard's servers... I'm sure you don't want lag in your game because everyone is forced to play online. For me the game is all about lore and watching your character get stronger and better... and about bashing zombies' heads

Yes biggie! Specially when your "300 bucks" become "1000 bucks" in my country

I'm quite sure cheating started in multiplayer... Cheating to yourself is plain stupid
2.) Fight scenes will be more epic and chaotic with a must several players on the scene.
Fight scenes would become more confusing and the sense of achivement would be greatly diminished

I think single player should stay, and I don't think it would add THAT much time to the production, plus what do you think they start developing first, single player or multiplayer. Singleplayer is much more simple, so why should they get rid of something that functions perfectly on the way? A lot of other people only play Diablo because of single player as well.
I think it's much more difficult, you cannot trade items and challenges you to rely on yourself.
When the server is down or your internet isn't working, you can still play diablo.
It let's you focus on the questing more instead of competing against others.
There are characters you can download and try out, I've never tried it before.
I don't know if they could do TCP/ICP LAN parties without single player.
I for one enjoy the single player D2 far more than the multiplayer. I like to imerse myself in the game and really get a feel for the surroundings. I find that kind of imersion difficult to achive when someone is running around going "trd plz" "WTB ur weapons" etc etc....
I couldn't stand playing single player Diablo I, II, or LoD, or any variation thereof. But, I don't think it's right to stamp out people that play single player. Single player is a whole different field of people, a whole market, a whole of consumers.
hate the idea.. one of my biggest problems with WOW was not being self sufficient... I want my character to be powerful enough to not need a "healer" or not need a party to go killing people... no party only crap!
there's 2 issues here. firstly, the developers would never change diablo to a party only game because that's not what kind of game it is.
if you want that kind of playstyle then find it elsewhere.. almost every other game out there has it to some degree.
as for the second issue, i also agree with previous posters that the people that play exclusively single player should matter; they have always been a significant part of the diablo playerbase that led to the success of the game, and they don't have a lot of options for quality games of this sort anymore.
removing single player would be a kick in the teeth to a whole subsection of diablo players.
and back to the required grouping thing.. personally it would absolutely ruin the game for me if they made grouping mandatory.
i love to solo online, as well as play in a group in certain end-game situations for more xp.. however, even when i play in a party, i like to be self sufficient as a previous poster said (and i wouldn't play in the group unless i knew that i could solo the content we were doing)... LOATHE dependency on other players.
i grew up on d2 and now my expectations and desires for games are tailored to what diablo has been in the past.
they're not gonna pull the rug out from under us.

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
Yeah single player sucks. I used to play it before I discovered the awesomeness of bnet. But why get rid of it? How is single player different from soloing on bnet. I get your point about 1v1 diablo but I guess I'm just that awesome =p

Apparently freezing yourself is fatal. HOW ARE YOU PEOPLE COPING?!
The only reason I'm not playing WoW, is because it's made for multiplayer only. I would be really sad if they did the same thing with Diablo 3.
So yeah, no offense, but that is the most terrible suggestion I've heard in a long time. :]
I allways find Diablo singleplayer much better then b.net. Singleplayer you don't have lag, you don't have to deal with idiots and hackers, you can play all the quests you want, the way you want without have to rush anything.
Of course, in 5 years of play i have only two high end runewords (one hoto, one nigma), still the game is so much fun when you don't have all that epic gear.
Also my time of commitment in games have gone, so I don't need anymore clans to suck out my energy (and multiplayer without clans are a bit pointless imo).

No objection to that, I'm impatient too

"One does not simply rock into Mordor."
"There's no I in Team America!"
And The Heavens Shall Tremble...
Sucks to be you.
Seriously. You're missing out on the best part of Diablo.

It saddens me as well, they are so fun

I have so little spare time in my life that if I could only play it on the net, I just simply wouldn't make the time to play it ever.
I have about 2 hours a month to play games and, even free, it wouldn't be worth my time to play on battlenet.
