Although I voted for 8, because of the reported individual loot system. This would eliminate the issue of the 'fastest-finger-first' grab for items with an endgame kill that was evident in D2. That was probably my biggest problem with 8 players in D2.
4 players would be lonely indeed, but I can see a group of 4 players becoming more friendly in one game than a group of 8 might.
for diablo 3 i voted for 4 one reason is because in 08 blizzcon he announced that there probably only going to have 4 or 5 max per game AND 2nd reason is having up to 8 players in diablo 3 would be SOOOOO confusing especially if you had a lot of monks lol
well im all about quality. just aslong as the experience is unbelievable i wont care how many people there are. i think it would be nice to implement options for rooms to choose how many players could be on etc. I believe this is the only way everyone can have an amazing time.
from my own experience i have had a group of 4 before and there has been an inseparable bond between us.
as for 8 people i still havent found a group yet so i couldnt tell ya. but im assuming it would be nice.
I think 4 is realistic enough fun. I have several friends who are going to buy this game along with myself, but the chances of us being on at the same time I might as well be playing Single Player! 8 would just cause the same "join a full game, leech experience, level faster, win" tactic I think we've all experienced before..
With four players, it would be treated more as a clan or at least a lot closer to one then eight would be. Maybe if they had 8 player games specifically designed for trading or some other aspect would be useful.
Maybe another addition to put into the option menu?
8 players I can't see why not, it worked before. Give the option to the person making the game how many players they want to allow in, that way you can have anywhere between 1-8, everyone wins.
i think a 4 player cap is about right, maybe up to 6, but its definitely within reason. i dont remember many times playing a game with 8 people doing the same thing and going for the common goal.
have too many people in a game sort of lets people go off and do their own thing or split into smaller groups. With a big part of d3 being cooperative i think the 4 player cap will help with keeping players together.
again 4 players would be best because my uncle 2 of my cousins and me will be playing together which makes 4 lol and i just caught on to something that like they also said at blizzcon player max might actually 5 because 5 classes that would be perfect! and i hope they make it where the leader of the game can kick people because i got tired of noobs taking the loot and advertisers...>.<...but the loot part wont be so bad sense only players can see there loot and not others just advertisers and noobs
Well, I think there is a reason for the 4 player max, maybe not a good one but a reason.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but currently in diablo 2 the way to get the most experience is to have the largest party possible. Forgive me, I played before LoD even, and again when cow lvl was popular for leveling. If the same exp bonus applies to larger parties in D3 then again to level up the fastest we will need full games.
With a 4 player limit, it might be conceivable that you have 3 friends and you guys can work together. If you've played WoW then you know how difficult it can be to create a 10 person party. With a limit of 8 or higher again I think we'd see the same thing where someone just creates an open game "cow1icnmakedn'tkillking" and then 9 random people join just because its the easier than organizing a group and thats just what everyone does to level.
Yeah it worked, but it was kind of lame and I think D3 can do better. As long as you need to fill a game to level up the fastest, and the number of players allowable is greater than the number of friends you have online at any one time, theres gonna be open run games for leveling (and leechers!)
Ideally though I'd really like to see 8 ppl per game. Having a party that size is cool, 4 does seem kinda small. Personally I just think the leveling system will require some forethought otherwise we're gonna have to repeatedly join random run games to level, and I for one don't really want that.
You've got to keep in mind that DII is a drastically different game.
From the gameplay vids its the same basic idea. Spam skills at monsters till they die, with the exception of a few gimmicks they will probably throw in for boss fights and possibly some regular creatures...
lol not duriels mother-in-law, hell if youve seen one bug youve seen em all, what about the cross-dressing buthcer? Then it isnt a vagina monster, its "Ah... Fresh cock!"
The D3 effects are much bigger and flashyer than the D2 ones.
Indeed....if this is the reason for smaller parties then I think they should tone down some of the effects if it means they could then have a larger party. Less then 8 just feels like a downgrade from D2
They are also trying to give more control and importance to each separate member of the team.
They could balance and make things scale as to make each member of the party important even if it was 20 people in a game. I dont see why they cant just do that.

Could handle 6.
Give me 4 and I burn your corporate offices down.
Seriously, why downgrade from 8 to 4? I thought something like 10 was almost a certainty.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

Maybe there could be different game types with different amounts of people (Trading, PvP, PvE)
Or what about 5 even, one of each class?
