Let's start off with the good.
I really liked the character in the background of the talent tree, even though the face looks nothing like a barbarian's. It looks great, it's not distracting and it fills in some empty space.
I also liked the gold icon, at first I wondered "how will you type in the amount of gold you want to drop", and then I remembered you may not be able to due to the new loot system. The "fury" (or whatever name they have picked) globe looks nice, as does the hooded angel to the right. The amulet looks great, the size is iffy though. For the MOST part, the skill tree icons are very simple, and I can get an idea of what attacks they could be at a quick glance while attacking. I love the six little buttons to the right of the fury globe, they are simple and easy to acess.
Unfortunately, some things didn't seem "right"
The legging armor looked really off, it's not centered in it's box. The pant legs are cut out of the box, and there are still some space above the pants, ruining the whole "outfit flow". Also, I may be mistaken but it seems like there is already a belt attached to the pants, while there is a equipable belt item already on the character. A lot of the armor seems out of proportion too, the amulet is almost the same size as the pair of boots. I hate so say it, but I was almost reminded of Runescape for a second. The crossed swords above the talent tree look weird and bubbly, and a bit more cartoony than the gothic stained window look I think they were going for.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, add to it if you noticed anything forth pointing out.
I don't like the painting of the character in the skill tree, its not really ditracting or anything but it also doesn't add anything, i would much rather see a plain stone motive or something similar as used in the inventory.
The glassy icons (inventory, skilltree and such) are a nice idea, although not really well executed, now they really look like cartoon icons, they need a lot of work. Also, i don't really know if they are even needed, i mean its not like we can't already deduce that the inventory screen is in fact an inventory screen), so maybe tone them down a bit.
Dimensions of items are way off imo, sure they don't need to be realistic (as that would make rings and amulets extremely tiny in comparison to armor and weapons) but still, pants look like that of a midget compared to the giant boots beneath it, the glove looks as if they could cover an entire arm compared to the armor next to it, the amulet looks like a frisbee compared to everything else and the ring looks as if it could kill a person by throwing it at them. Also, i feel that the weaponslot is too much downwards, it feels weird with the human figure between them (which seems to float in relation to them). It still needs a lot of work.
Lastly i would like the demon and angel actually holding the bulbs.
I pretty much agree with everything said here. Hopefully it will change as the game progresses, as I'm sure it will.
Also, anyone else notice that it's a right-handed glove on his left hand?

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky"
The only issue I have for the character and skill screens would be that they seem to 100% cover each side of the screen. This may be due to the way the screenshot was cropped but either way..
It would be better if these screens were a bit smaller in each dimension so that a player could see a monster approaching while they are messing around in these screens. Then they could quickly close them and continue the fight. With the way the screens are currently shown, the player wouldn't know until the monster was almost right on top of them.

All this happen because all "big items" icons (armor, gloves, boots, legs, weapons, shields..) must have the execly same size in the inventory. So the problem here is that the armor cannot be bigger then that or it won't fit the slot.
In diablo 2, if you opened 2 on each side, the screen would be filled 100%. It's actually an improvement.
No, the reason that happened is due to the low 800x600 resolution and no scaling. Modern games are played on higher resolutions, and if they aren't, they scale the item size and fonts to make sure the two do not block the character.
IMO, I think that the demon and the angel at the bottom need to switch. It makes more sense that the angel would represent your life while the demon would represent your energy needed to kill things be it mana or fury.
I do understand the aesthetically the demon is red and angel is blue but how does a demon keep you alive or angel bestow you the ability to kill.

The town portal icon also looks a bit too bubbly, like the crossed sword icon at the top of the talent tree.
The empty gray space at the bottoms of the talent/inventory screens seems like a waste of space.
Anyone else wondering what the treasure chest looking tab is for on the inventory screen?
I could be wrong but they said there was a slot for large items, one for small, and the last one for quest items. So I believe the chest icon is for your quest items.

In Diablo 1 the demon held the life and the angel held the mana. In D2 they switched it and had the angel holding your life while the demon held your mana. So I don't understand what you're saying. IMO it just makes sense that the angel represents life and the demon represents death. Like they had it in D2

Do we honestly care where the angel or demon is? It's not like we will pay attention to what is carrying our health. It's how high and low it is..... xD
I agree, it won't effect your gameplay unless it annoys you so badly you get distracted..
Of course it doesn't effect the game play. Neither does how the armor equip screen LOOKS. I thought the point of this thread was to discuss the aesthetics of these things. Not how they will effect the game play.

I'm not saying it needs to be like D2, it just makes more sense is all. I feel they realized this from D1 to D2. So why switch it back. It would not take very long just to swap the two pics.

I don't know if I'm just looking at it wrong but to me it looks like the silhouette of the guy on the item screen has a claw for a hand.
I also think that the bag icon for the large items looks more like a 1930's explorers bag then something medieval. Feels a little out of place.
I think that the text of the different skill tress is a little generic. I'm sure they'll change it though.
I do like the "stony" feel in the background of the item screen. Very diablo-esque.
The colors on the items equipped bothers me. I believe they correspond with the rarity of the item but I think it will look weird later on when you have a green, a purple, a yellow, and a blue item all equipped at the same time.
I think it would be cool if the replaced the generic face atop the swords and gold pouch with something more recognizable, like bishibosh's face.
Well those are my opinions.

I was staring at that, wondering why it looked so awkward.. I couldn't figure it out after a while and gave up, thanks for pointing it out.

Though, people's constant bickering for "darker and scarier" feel probably doesn't help things sometimes. Looks like they did overkill with that.
