"In the game right now, rares are yellow and uniques are orange (although it's a dark orange, almost brown).
As Jay said he was working off memory, and thought that purple might instead be reserved for some other item type we haven't talked about yet. That appears to be the case."
Well if uniques are brown-ish, they might aswell make them gold. I like gold and imo it gives items a bit of sentimentality
But yellow looks almost like gold =/
I guess the actual item type colors are:
White - Normal items
Blue - Magic Items
Yellow - rare Items
Dark Orange - Unic
Green - Set items
Purple - Unknown new item type (crafted or quest items imo).
I'm VERY happy we don't have green magics, blue rares and purple unics.
Have you ever mistaken a rare with a unique in D2? I know I havent. Why fix something that isnt broken? They could also make the name of the unique in bold.
Not broken for you. I'm colorblind and have issues telling the difference between Yellow and Gold. The only way I can tell if something is rare or unique in D2 is a slight difference in the degree of bold in the font. It's near impossible when stuff is dropping constantly. Can't tell the difference between blues/purples in WoW either. I'm glad that Blizz is taking the time to help those of us that are color-retarded from birth. Won't stop me from playing the game otherwise but it sure as hell makes things a lot simpler for me.

They said that they messed around with colors, but it didn't feel like Diablo so they restored them to their normal colors.
i like how they are looking into new colors.
maybe red...who knows?
