Well since the huge success of SC pvp system, WC3 on Battle.net and the huge popularity of PvP in WOW it is not a surprise that Blizz announced that D3 would in fact support a PvP system. My question is...what do you think the PvP system will be like?
I personally hope it has a Battle.net from WC3 feel, multiple game types to jump into...with the ability to use player created maps for modified game types.
I guess a better question would be what do you want the PvP system to be like?
Blizzard already confirmed that no map/game costumization would be supported. So of course player created custom maps won't be in the game for tons of reasons like balancement and a world map editor integration.
But a PVP system will probably (99%) be implemented. I would like to see this like the Arena from WoW. (Even if I think WoW is the worst game to have PVP on it because of how inacurate the packets are transmitted to the clients). Still, having some fighting grounds where you can find some destructible traps and closed environment (to counter the late D2 Enigma teleport spamming) so no class and no spell/equipement build is more viable than others.
I think Blizzard will implement the same Tournament system they recently added on WoW which would be one of the Bnet2.0 options (with a fee) avalaible to players. I wouldn't pay for this but I know alot of people would like to compete for money in Diablo 3.
I would like to see some way to spectate these players that are very talented and highly ranked in this system to give some good players some sort of ways to show themselves. Which is now possible in SC, WC and WoW.
And finaly, I would love a Team system. To officialize the team battles. That would be a new strategic game in Diablo PVP. ie: Fury Barbarian & Arcane Wizard vs Fire Wizard and WitchDoc. People could start to find strengths and weeknesses for each class and each class combinasions.
i can just about garuntee u that, bcuz of the type of game it is, the PvP will b like a mix from D2 and WoW
I don't think that would be a bad thing...
I hoping that you have can friendly duels that don't result in death (like wow) and ones that do result in death.
And also like to see something preventing them from entering town if they're pvp flagged or whatever they're gonna do. Do something like you have to unflag and it will take 15 secs before you can enter town while you can still attack players and players can attack you or something like that.
Like the poster above said I would also like to see team vs. team battles and wouldn't mind some sort of arena that would just take out the fleeing to town thing.
They should implement like 3 different styles of PVP.
1. regular (1v1, 2v2, etc or free-for-all)
2. Guilds and arena teams.
3. (held only on certain days/ holidays) BATTLE ROYALE - blizzard throws alll players onto a map naked and their goal is to find weapons and armour, Ally up (for the mean time)with enemy players ( optional depending on how skilled/cocky a player is). and last man standing wins a very generous prize.

Even if one takes every reefer madness allegation of the prohibitionists at face value, marijuana prohibition has done far more harm to far more people than marijuana ever could

would be great but it need to be like, each player put an item and whoever win get all items.
otherwise u could just put your characters in a game and wait until it finish, easy prizes
Diablo II PVP was veryyyy boooring and dumb. And since Blizzard wants their games to become more like "sports" as for their watching/competition value. They will never stay to the fight outside of town - go back to town - get out teleport, nova, teleport back to town.. This was dumb and don't worry, they will change it. The fact is that Blizzard didn't bring this type of PVP. Players did. Now Blizz will put some "rules" and will make this official, prevent abuses and unbalancment.
Diablo 3 PVP must be better than Diablo 2's. Cause face it guys, D2 pvp was NOT a good pvp system.
the pvp system should be only in duel format i think
like both players have to agree or all players involved (specify teams with parties so its like party vs party) and it could like teleport you to an arena but when you lose you dont die
but your opponent still gets a ear
and it could bring you to a diff arena all the time
with a fog of war and it could be a pretty big area
they could also make a series of ear quests lol for bnet only
I never played D2...plan on playing through 1 and 2 at some point to catch up on story before D3, but could someone explain to me the D2 pvp system? I read people talking about fighting in towns and being attacked by random players (which i love). But for some reason I was under the assumption that when playing D2 you were only in the same server/game or w/e you wanna call it w/ a limited number of people.
How many people could play together at once? Were there only a few towns? Are there times that you are questing or doing your thing in random locations where you run across another player and can have a go at them? Just some things like these I was wondering. I feel like Blizz will not ignore the PvP aspect of this game at all considering the way WoW pvp has taken off and how SC2 will no doubt have a long life as a pvp game...I really dont see them over looking D3 when it comes to the PvP end of the game, it seems like a game where an arena system could really shine, since there are no healers skill would come into play a bit more.

Basicly, there is 1 town per act. Everyone go at act1 town and hostile everyone. You can hostile people when u are in town only, attack people OUTSIDE only. But nothing prevent you to run away in town to go heal yourself while you are fighting.
Sometimes it was like 7vs1 just for the farg of it.
Body camping ( nothing prevent the guy to camp you as he want ... ).
If u unhostile him, he can still attack you... how do you want to get your gear and have a chance to kill him if your naked and that he kill you as soon as you get out of town.
So, unfair fights, bad system overall. BUT, it's fun when you have the EPIC character in the game hahaha
edit: WE HAVE TO KEEP THE EARS. Was funny to see all of em on the ground ( they drop when u get killed )
Ears rocked! They were widely dismissed/dropped/sold to Akara. But when it was a worthy kill (1/1000 of the kills) you really wanted that ear. You would lose 8 for that one.
I did a similar post on another topic (which is about pretty much the same thing) - multiplayer aspect , PvP.. Sorry if copying part of the post is considered double posting, just wanted to let some guys (on a similar topic) know about the idea:
"I'd really like to see a way to compete through playing single-player against other teams (or even 1 on 1 player "race" (not really a race =P)! Not only in chronological terms, but in efficiency as well..
many games nowadays combine different gameplays to create a new one a lot more fun that the two previous (which combine Action + RPG [Diablo II, Titan Quest] , Strategy + RPG [Dawn of War II]) .. so why not make use of both cooperative and competitive aspects of diablo 3 on PvP?
It would be really nice to see teams competing for the fastest, most efficient way of going through a dungeon they've played 100 times (like I said, not only time-wise but efficient wise -> dying could subtract 100 points from given team, for instance) Reaching the boss first could give 100 pts, and killing it first could give 50 pts, for example ..
Not only would freshen up the game experience, allowing for a combination of cooperative and competitive gameplay in one feature, but also allow the game to support multiple parties competing just by comparing "numerical factors" - easily supportable by the bandwidth..."

I'd like to see more body parts from PvP fights =) Ears are ok, but I'd like to be able to keep my enemy's heart or brain as well =D With a squishy look to their icons..
