Hey, well, that's my first time here on Game Suggestions forum, i read some of the suggestions.
I am sorry if I repost a earlier suggestion but here it is:
- Dieing in Hardcore Mode might only "disable" your character for a few days. (a week)
Let me explain myself before bashing me
I loved the Hardcore mode in Diablo II and I was happy to hear that it should come back in Diablo III. I think this mode deserve a better popularity because I know that alot of people do not try this because they don't want to start over after a lag. It happened at least once for everyone. But just the fact of thinking that death is really the end brings the player to an whole new level of in the game.
I also thought about the leveling ladders races there was post 1.10, I think. This was very cool.
So I thought about merging these to make everyone "happy". In some Leveling races like in D2 where you needed to be leveling your character everyday for a week to make sure you could have a chance to be in the top 99 just rang me a bell. Why not, if the character dies, locking this character for a week (death penality). This would be enough to get this character out of the ladders. But at least, they could be able to play with their character again in few days if they enjoyed leveling him.
Not sure what you guys think.
EDIT: of course this would probably work only on BNET.
for me, the only reason that hardcore has great meaning is because it has great consequence.
the only reason i value my live hardcore characters is because they can die, and lose everything.
i know there's times that i'll wish it wasn't true, but dead is dead.. and that's why i love hardcore.

they'll never see me coming.. life is a sequence of tragedies, inconsistent only by fleeting, elusive moments of pleasure,
serving only to ensure absolute vulnerability to the pain of their inevitable absence.
Nobody would play hardcore if you got your character back after a week, they'd all play normal to avoid the downtime.
A more realistic idea would be that your items are detroyed and you return to level 1.
But I prefer it how it is already.
Lolll, that would be a downgrade since people like to keep their character has proof of being level 99 and dead but still in the ladder.
And the idea is based only on the fact that people want to compete on Ladders. Going from 1 to 99 in Diablo II in normal mode (without power leveling or any help) used to take me maximum 2 weeks depending on how lucky i got with item drops and stuff. On hardcore. I would take more time (as it is on Diablo II LOD Ladders right now). People are playing a different way when dieing means something. And trust me, if I would want to be in top100 Hardcore mode level race, I would consider a 1 week penality just like losing him for good. Since a week is like 90 level when starting from the beginning.
So it would be the same for a competitive aspect. You STILL lose your character's "worth". But also, if you are 90 and you die. But you don't want to create the same character right now.. Well in 1 week, you will be able to play him again, even if he has no chance of being in the ladders. Competitive players like me will consider this character "lost" but also and for others, this could affect players decisions to play Hardcore mode where in Diablo II, they would never had.
That doesn't stop you from deleting your character when you die to make it just like Diablo II though ;).
I never played hardcore extensively, but when I did, it was one of the most fun experiences D2 had to offer. It forced you to play well, and play carefully. Taking away the permanent death would just... ruin it. Granted, it is a good idea to attract people to hardcore mode, but a different way should be used.

I would be disappointed if permanent death was removed from hardcore mode.
Also, I don't think it's wise to split up the community even further with additional modes.
sounds like training wheels
honestly, don't really think it would be attractive to sc or hc players.
but who knows

It's alright, but I don't think my idea should be a 3rd mode. This would just be wrong.
Anyway, HC was nearly Death proof at the beginning. Since people had their Esc - Quit Game button always ready.
If Blizz would block game quiting while in combat... 90% of people who just said : Death is Death in HC would just never play HC. I know what it is since I played hardcore alot and even tried in Ladders on the first roll. Died at level 89 barb, iron maiden...
Let's hope Blizz finds something to make HC more attractive...

Stripped of all armor, weapons, etc. upon death.
Death count; which tallies all deaths your character has had..

It's a good way to eventually get more people into Hardcore tho.
I know a lot of people that have never even tried Harcore because of the high risks.
