You know I was thinking about this lately, what if D3 had plenty of monsters that had a lot of "special attacks". Meaning that these attacks would be much more visual than normal ones or they would simply affect the player in a unique way that would make teamwork necessary. And that's the main focus on D3 isn't it? Cooperative play.
For example as a visual move how about certain monsters being able to throw the player for extra damage or to isolate him from the group, perhaps even occasionally being thrown off a cliff.. which would up the fear factor. Or how about grabbing a player and choking him to death under a certain amount of time until someone strikes and frees him. Another one comes directly from Left 4 Dead where a monster can vomit blood or something onto a player, forcing monsters to spawn or come out of the ground to mass attack that player. What about being infected with a parasite that causes you to be crippled, I could go on and on with idea's for these "special attacks".
I've seen a little bit of these in the D3 demo where the goat mage (whatever he is) freezes two players with ice making them vulnerable. And another famous one where the mini boss grabs a player and bites his head off. I just want to see a lot more of that but on a smaller scale and with more strategy and teamwork involved.
first of all, D3's main focus is not cooperative play. blizzard just wants to make it more fun and easier to play with other people. If it required 2people to get past a monster, that would suck.
if you needed 2 people or so to get past a monster that would suck lol
but i really like the idea you have for monsters having special attacks, i escpecially like the l4d one, with a monster vomiting blood on you, that would be awesome.

I thought D3's main focus was coop play lol...almost sure it was said somewhere
I like it, it definitely adds more depth to the 'standard' monsters.
But it is quite hard to kill them when you're on your own.
And when you are frozen or something like that in multiplayer, that's no fun either. You just sit there and can't do anything.
As Bllzzu said, Blizzard made Diablo II more challenging with more people. I'd like to see your idea combined with Blizzard's. So when more people join, monsters gain more diverse attacks to increase the experience.
Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure such a thing has been mentioned before...
Yeah, i doubt there will be any attacks that require multiplayer interaction.
But, I am hoping for some more seige breaker-esque special attacks and the ones you mentioned sounds pretty good. Another possiblity is that special attacks or spawns could be triggered by specifc player actions. For instance in the dune thresher file, the sounds of the sand leaper things summoned the dune thresher. So maybe killing enough of them would cause a dune thresher to spawn.
Even with the seige breaker, the disembodied barb must have been low in health, so maybe rushing it while low in health will result in you being torn in 2.
There will already be some special attacks. Like in the first gameplay video it was easier to beat those berserkers by stunning them before they made their powerful attack.
So my guess is that we will have a lot more complex normal monsters this time.. they will have a little bit more special stuff which is good because maybe then only a human can beat them down.. not just a bot that knows how to press the skill buttons.
something cool for hardcore; when you die i mean..
when it calculates on the next hit you will die, or that the guy to actually kill you wont just immediately kill you, he would hit you, and if you were supposed to die, time will slow down and one monster will do some sort of special attack on you that is very visual..
in HC you don't die, every time like in regular...so make the deaths cool
if you didn't understand - the last monster to hit you, the one supposed to kill you. He will attack you, and when your life = 0 time will be slowed almost completely, and a nearby monster will do some kind of awsome attack, maybe flame you to death, or make you explode..or bit your head off lol..

i dont like that idea at all for diablo 3. it works great in other games like fallout 3 but wouldnt work in d3
they could make deaths also in normal game not HC, that you have some explosion and throws small amount of damage around body..just like when you level up damage is thrown around you

Nothing wrong with spicing up death animations with some special death scenes.. Special death scenes would only happen at certain places, certain bosses or circumstances (like a HC death.)
The least they could do is make two or three different death animations and rotate them.

I've come for your children - Your first born
I'm the monsta - The boogieman
So mothers be warned - But you give them up gladly
Num3n, hes talking about Hardcore mode in that post, if you didnt notice.
In HC, as your char only dies once, they could implement a special animation thats a bit longer than usual.
You wont jump back into the action after all if you die.
i suppose thats a good idea actually.
actually adding on to that. i think there should be a random factor maybe a %10 chance where your character is graced by the heavens and in that slow motion scene ur character kills all the surrounding enemies and you are given a chance to hobble off and heal.
like say your 1v3 and ur a barbarian against some good monsters. they end up killing you but then this mist covers your screen (all the while going slow) and then this bright hand sort of coalesces in the mist and opens its palm towards you like if they were to fire a laser beam (something out of dragon ball z) except there is this faint and brief flash and say perhaps a bit of a boom. and then ur character gains a tiny bit of health and (as a barbarian) spins and lops the heads off of the monsters hes facing giving him the chance to hobble off.

lol thats taking it a bit far; they can do anything they like; especially in HC deaths'
as long as there is no chance to be revived..i dont like that
