More wow hate and worry about D3 becoming wow......anyways.....dont worry....name changes dont matteer man its still a hack and slash rpgish type of game.....its not an auto attack grind fest till max lvl then pvp/raid for gear made for your class type of game yet....when we see that happeneing then complain its becoming like wow
i have no problem with WoW
but they just need to be more creative/open minded and true to the original Diablo series
and followers does make it sound like its a cult
when mercenaries makes a lot more sense

KK fine....but like others have said above its only naming....in the end they could call skills/talents piss and call attributes shit.....they still do the same damm thing so no worres
i still worry cause then it wont feel the same lol
then what if they called the barbarian shit or his skills shit and piss
then it would matter huh?
no cuz its the same damm thing........it wont feel the same regardless you realize? diablo 3 is a new game.....D2 came out almost 10 years ago this isnt going to feel much like D2
The nomenclature of things actually is important for me to a point. I'm very particular about naming things in games. However, mercs not being called mercs doesn't necessarily bother me. But that doesn't it mean it wouldn't bother me if they called them monkeys. People who care not even a little are the ones who only play games like Diablo to reach level 99 on the ladder as quickly as possible. All other aspects of the game are secondary at best to them.
I don't mind the name change. Although I have one question, where exactly is the word "Follower" used in WoW? I've played it for years and never noticed it. Pet, companion, guardian. Never follower.
How is follower a WoW term? WoW has 3 kinds of NPC's that can be with you, "Pet" "Guardian" "Companion" there is no follower, you're being a bit paranoid just because something was slightly changed
EDIT: also depends on what these "followers" are. In D2 we hired mercenaries to fight with us, they fought because they were paid to. Perhaps in D3 we will earn followers, people who willingly fight with us because of our goals/achievements/etc. Someone who is willing to follow our steps and fight with us until they die. This is speculation of course, but the change may simply be because they may not be mercs now.
I played WoW since the release and never heard of a Follower.. in fact that game doesn't have any kind of mercenary system.. which is good that is a multiplayer game after all. And in D3 there shouldn't be permanent mercenaries in multiplayer either.. in singleplayer maybe so the poor lonely people wouldn't get so bored of themselves
I think there will be mercenaries in D3 anyway.. but there will also be these followers. Followers at least in the gameplay demo were a bunch of NPC's that tagged along you in a quest.

You have described me :D....sorta.....I still care for the lore....but being hardcore and good at the games PVP is my main focus
In the demo the followers are just random guys...they are not hired..they haven't even said a peep about mercs other than they will be back in D3 and will be more substantial. Even if they are followers...like some said already; maybe they will follow us like they have followers in the books (Sin Wars) so maybe they will join us in our cause. At least this is something to talk about...where's the new info???
nickfknlegit you got it all wrong. According to what Blizzard said, followers are simply allied units you encounter during quests that help you fight. They are not permanent and you don't pay for them. I think they even said that they go away once you leave the area you found them, sorta like the barbs in act 5.
