Well, sinse Vanilla i play publics games. Until S2 it was most of my group game effort. But since S3 i prefer to play at solo or with clan/comunity games. But now, i barelly play at all. D3 is losing my interest as it doesnt bring new content since RoS was launched. Set Dungeons and kanai event were cool. I would like to see more like them...
last night i saw a youtube video where 8 paladins run a new hardcore d2 playthrough. they played till the last man die. it was so cool. somehow d3 never triggered that kind of excitement in me.
maybe because leveling is boring in diablo 3.
maybe because diablo 3 never suprises with its encounters and difficulty always stays same.
maybe because running 8 players acctually works in diablo 2.
maybe because diablo 3 is too much fast paced to allow group to run together.
i honestly cant tell exact reason/reasons. last time i did a similair thing, it was the time of d3 vanilla where everything was super damn hard... after that i was in a public game in s3 because of loot, but it was souless.
I use public games to grind rift keys and do bounties... it is slightly faster than solo, although bounties can go bad if someone doesn't know how to collect rewards... I also often start public games, but rarely anyone joins... all that is for HC in US.
yesterday, i open my game for public sometimes when there is no party for nefalem keys farming, just for lulz with low paragon players and for increased drop rate.
recently i do public bounties when only one act's reagents are needed, just bonus act, then leave

That is how I fill up my ignore list, have 12 ppl on it so far.

so you're one of those guys... The other three have to do all other acts with one less player but at least you have that bonus act...
Yes, this behaviour is incredibly vexing and selfish. I've always assumed that the perpetrators don't know that the spot will not be filed with a new random person once the bonus has been completed. Perhaps not "assumed" so much as "hoped" (to retain some faith in online communities)
lLways play public games for normal rifts and bounties. They just get cleared quicker and I've never been a fan of communities. It winds up taking longer than just dropping into a public game. Greater rifts are only done with my 2's partner and unless it's the first week or two of the season.
lol usual public bounty is smth like 2 noobs with 500 paragon tryharding t10, doing 1 quest for 5-6 minutes lol. the third person is afk or just speaking to tyrael) usually they fail bonus acts, especially 3 and 4, cos they are just noobs with 1000-3000k done bounties in profile, they put their faces in every and each bug like Crystal Prison in act5, and you want me doing all 5 acts with them?)))) don't make me laugh
i refuse to play public games, i have done a public game one time in Vinilla for the achievement and that was all she wrote. I would rather join a guild and play with a group but 75% of the time i play solo. Most of my friends are terrible or do not have the time to grind like i did or refuse to play a support build. I always felt like i was just boosting friends so group play was never an option.
I guessed S1/S2. Not sure exactly though. It was early in the seasons, though. Since then been all solo.
Since solo and multiplayer are completely different games, with multiplayer progression being 10x to 100x faster, you really have to play 100% solo or 100% multiplayer. If you try to mix, every second you spend playing solo is time spent gimping yourself. But if you play 100% solo you can enjoy that very different game.

Actually curious about this as I was asking myself this question recently...

I used public to skip from hell to inferno in vanilla if that counts (you know the "exploit" with quests).
Never actually played in a public game.

Public rifts and bounties. I don't mind folks getting one act and leaving as long as it is the bonus act.
Public GRs? Notsomuch...

I've never played in a public game, and I've been playing off and on since day 1.
