I totally love it when change bashers come on and pull up potion removal as a bad idea and then they talk about D3 becoming too simple, too casual, too easy...
Yeah, being pro enough to handle a boss without potion and TP spam is TOO EASY ZOMG!
Light radius added a "whats over there" aspect to the atmosphere of Diablo. On the one hand you're telling me the graphics improved but seemingly this only includes "being able to see everything", in that case i've got news for you, pre-Diablo games were like that, pre-Diablo games "made you see everything" because in most cases there was no such thing as "lighting and shadows" (except for artificial ones as in DooM). Maybe i'm the only one, which would surprise me immensly, but i actually expected Blizzard to improve on the play of light and shadows, not "not bother with it cause some 5 year old whines about how its unfair he died because of that one monster he didn't see lurking in the shadowy corner".
Just because you can see things doesn't mean that they're removing opportunities for the play of light and shadow- the recent demo vid showed that things can still be quite scary when the lights are played with and you can't really notice things when they blend with the atmosphere (which is cooler instead of just blacking out your surroundings).
It's a new direction where they're in a world that needs expanding - and it's not all about just dungeons and dark places... I sure as hell know I want to see more of the world of sanctuary and not Tomb 1,Tomb 2, Tomb 3.

Tetris inventory "but it was sooo annoying", you know whats "annoying", hack & slashing a kazillion monsters to try and find that one item missing in your collection, oh wait, if thats annoying then why the fuck are you even playing the game? What you want my friend is a interactive movie, take it from me, you don't want games if you even think placing items into an inventory is annoying, if you think its annoying to actually marginally manage it. If you think thats "annoying", you should be reading an easy childrens book or whatever instead of routing for downsizing a fucking franchise cause even the most basic ingredients of said franchise are annoying to you.
You just hinged the 'fun' aspect of a game on a system that is both tedious and ridiculous to manage when you have such a vast variety of items. There's nostalgia there somewhere I must admit- but it's time to let go tbh...

Potions. You fail to see how instead of improving the system simply doing away with it to be replaced with something that is in its core more retarded is a failed excuse for change. Potions were too plenty, make them less plenty.
Potions were too easy, make them less easy.
Potions weren't valuably in an economical sense, make them valuable.
Potions could be spammed, make them unspammable.
The idea behind it really isn't that hard, the hard part is balancing it but hey isn't that what you expect from the developers of the franchise? But noooo, better yet not bother with it and replace it with auto-health "cause if you give control to the player it is that much more difficult to balance the system" and thats what its all about, a cleverly hid dumbed down system, in both the cases for the devs and the players.
The Potion system in D2 was fucked up. You had to spam em and refill em and again- it was just tedious. It's more challenging to think about your health and when you're going to collect the orbs on the floor- instead of knowing that health is readily available at the click of a button- which is mundane, monotonous and destroys your fingers...

Graphics. See, thats where the arguments that you put forth (and are being put forth by anyone "not wanting to hear the truth") have no leg to stand on. You keep on referring to Diablo 2, did i ever say Diablo 2 did it "that much better"? (and lets forget how old D2 is, for your convenience ofcourse) Atleast Diablo 2 still had actual gothic architecture, atleast you actually had dark crypts and dungeons, atleast you had some play of light and shadow, atleast at its core it still tried to convey some form of realism, atleast it wasn't based on comicbook style sourceless green/purple/whatever lighting to try and act (and fail, if you're not 10) to feel dark. The only thing you seem to be able to do is point out the flaws in Diablo 2, now i'm not a genious when it comes to debates, but in what fucking way does that excuse Diablo 3's poor lack of design decisions which are obviously aimed at a naive young WoW induced audience "that doesn't know any better" and are for a large part due to untallented and lazy development?
I don't think enough people look back to the concept art pieces that Metzen did for the characters in Diablo II- they were ridiculously coloured- like peacock tail coloured even. Diablo II was like a rainbow burst compared to Diablo I- it's a progression of tone with the progression of the story. First it was dark town- then a dark journey (that opened the world up a bit) - and now it's more of a revealing of the world as a whole - so you need to showcase things and not darken them all.
