Ok, up until now I've had the utmost faith in Blizzard to deliver nothing but good on Diablo 3... Any decisions I''ve questioned I've told myself "wait till the game comes out before I judge it" sadly that's becoming increasingly difficult seeing the direction this game is going... From a fairly in depth action rpg to a dumped down and simplistic arcade game.
No stat alllocation? : Come on, this has been part of D1 & D2 ... It adds to character customization and uniqueness when it comes time to build your template... No basicly your saying every level 50 Babarian is going to share all the same base stats? That totally removes a level of strategy and depth in building your charcaters... Eitther look at this as an arcade feature or an mmo feature and just makes levels more mondain when all you have to do is pick a skill. This should be a step forward not removing the system.
4 players? What the hell is this nonsense, going from 8 to 4? Not only does this obliterate any sense of good pvp fights, where your limited to 2 on 2, 1 on 1 or a free for all. Good bye pvp potential and team games... This kills off a decent party size... Me and my budies "5 of us" made a pact to play through Diablo 3 together when it comes out, now we are essentially screwed because they are going with an arcade number rather then an online rpg... Atleast give us friggin 6, that's a good number... 8 may have been too many but 4 is far to few. 6 makes for a good group... We wont even be able to have all 5 characters playing together, which is a nice big step backward from D2 where all classes could be seen online together.
No potions or life leeching? , I'm still not sure on this system, I hope potions will atleast still somewhat be used and available rather then running around trying to knock health globes out of enemies... it really just seems to encourage offense play and penalize defensive play... If you don't fight, you don't heal.
Goodbye runewords? As much as this system was unbalanced, it was neat and brought another layer of customization to items that'll now be lost.
A game length = to that of Diablo 2 without the expansion pack? Great so we can plan on being finished normal difficulty in under a week. Yet they promised a vast and detailed world compared to that of D2... How is that even possible with a game that's comparable to 3.5 acts?
Charcters more uber? Essentially the horror and danger feeling will be stripped away with characetrs feeling more uber and overpowered.... Was slaying the lords of hell iand all their armies n Diablo 2 no already uber enough? Blowing through vast armies with ease beyond even that of Diablo 2 is going to make the forces of hell of seem like the forces of candy ass newbs.
....
I'm all for fast paced action but I'm not interested in seeing Diablo 3 transition into an arcade game with less characetr customization, less players and the removal of systems to make the game more simplistic and dumbed down.
If there isn't an editor, or some kind of modding tools or the modding capabilities found in Diablo 2 to alter and modify these bunk ideas/"improvements" to keep atleast "some" traditions from Diablo 2, I have a feeling my ride on the D3 train may end up being short lived with much to be desired for... That 4 player limit was really a shot in the nuts for me and my buddies. I want an action rpg, not an arcade game for 5 year olds.
Character customization in D2 already feels like a laugh when compared to what they have revealed of D3 so far. With each skill having three subspec trees, and power runes which modify and customize your spells in most unique possible ways, making build customization so vast that your brain will weep. And you still bother with stat points? What, by not putting enough Str points and spending them in Vit you can never carry a Stormshield for example, and that makes your character unique by limiting it?
4 players per game makes sense since b.net was a desolate place where it was hard to get a full game anyway. This way you will get a full game in no time. Also, when you play alone, your rewards are scaled down to 1/4, not 1/8. That's twice better. The only reason games ever had 7-8 players in them were Baal runs which was the most boring and pointless thing ever invented in the world of gaming, so good riddance to bullshit like that. New focus is on active party play and tactics.
No potions to spam. Boo hoo. Hitting 1234123412341234 and spamming one to two spells was so much more tactical and fun, right? Now you will want to use 6 different spell for any given situation. If you can't cope with that, play something else. Seriously I have no better advice to you. People are still expecting this game to be a mindless clickfest and nothing more.... Dissappointing.
Characters are uber in Normal Difficulty. They told us loooong ago that the other two difficulties will be more challenging than they were in D2.
As for life leeching, so far we know WD and Barb have life-leeching and WD has mana-leeching spells. In combination with health and mana orbs (yes, there are mana orbs) - any other means of lifeleach would be poinless. Your survavability doesn't rely on your ability to click fast like a monkey and replenish health anymore.
Yeah, but if you do that, you don't have anymore potions. I challenge you to pwn the game using a lot of potions. You'll soon see that you for every four potions you use, you only find one. You'll run out of potions eventually, and die.
I suggest you should play D2 a bit more.
Well they didn't take potions out of Diablo TWO, you dumb-dumb.
I am starting to lose faith in this game. I've hungered for years for this game to be served up. It seems now that all it is going to be is a shit sandwich. I won't bite. I am no longer going to purchase this game as I see it now. Blizzard is going to have to do some serious foreplay to get me back in the mood. Utterly disgusted with this shit they are doing to the best franchise in gaming history in my opinion.

i reckon the game will become more equipment based...
also in PVP, i rekon the player limit won't be the same in a co-op party... i'm hoping for a WoW style arena pvp system, that would be cool, and i rekon it suits the game
Solution to number 1... make str have a larger impact on melee damage... make dex have a larger impact on ranged damaged, defense and attack rating... make energy have a larger impact on mana or the damage of certain spells.
No Lan is also another kick... Basicly they're screwing over lan communities, pvp communities, larger groups... I imagine it's only a matter of time before the modding community gets the shaft so we cannot un-do or alter the changes we disagree with and our forced to play it exactly the way the intended.

Life leech (On items) might be taken out... they express that it was to difficult to balance at this point in the game.
As for the 4 player max thing... It isn't a definite... so get on the blizzard main forums and express your feelings on how 4 players max is to low and a happy medium would be 6.
4 players per game makes sense since b.net was a desolate place where it was hard to get a full game anyway. This way you will get a full game in no time. You're telling me that blizzard decided to remove FOUR(4) PLAYERS from game to IMPROVE the game experience? So it can get full faster and to end any kind of ''runs''?
You have no idea what Diablo is about, Blizzard decided for 4 per game because of one: Lag, two: the new graphics + 8 heros + quadzilion of monsters would be a little to heavy (blizz policy about making a game that every system can handle).
About the runs, it is a matter of time till people find the best exp points and we ge D3 baal run version, do you trully believe people will be playing the game from act1 to endgame, over and over again? God....
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
I wonder if gear will still have stat requirements.
If they remove the stat allocation system, they should remove the stat requirements as well, and keep only level requirements.
Yeah, I hear we lost customizable stat points. Im not 100% convinced that the final build won't have them but we got the customizable skills mechanic, which could turn out to be better than stat point allocation.
I'd much rather have 4-5 players for co-op. It makes the gameplay smoother and more concentrated. The gameplay would just feel less random without the chaos of 8 players in one location. It also makes the game creepier and more tense knowing you don't have a whole army backing you up. In this respect it's actually closer to D1 than D2. The number of players allowed for PvP gameplay was never announced.
Potions were never removed. They`ve just been made much more scarce this time around because of the health orbs.
Solution to number 1... make str have a larger impact on melee damage... make dex have a larger impact on ranged damaged, defense and attack rating... make energy have a larger impact on mana or the damage of certain spells.
Those would all allow for glass cannon builds with maximum damage and minimal necessary life. Which can be very unbalancing to a game.
Personally, I think it's only logical that the characters are supposed to feel more powerful than those of D2, because it's likewise probable that the act bosses and enemies are more powerful than they were in D2.
Think about it. In Diablo 1, you defeated Diablo, a strong evil demon who had possessed a weak child. That's it, that was your main accomplishment. In Diablo 2, you defeated 2 Lesser Evils who were at full power, Mephisto who had posessed a powerful mortal who was in charge of safeguarding the world against the Prime Evils, Diablo who had possessed the very hero who had defeaten him earlier, and Baal who had posessed probably the strongest mortal mage ever to have lived.
Now do I see a scaling of how strong the enemies are in there? Hell yeah I do. And the characters in D2 also felt more powerful than they did in D1.
Regardless of difficulty. That is important to note. The reason why D2 is easier than D1 is the lack of strategy. Only select monsters in D2 can kill you in one blow, and the rest is a cakewalk. In D1, almost all monsters could kill you very fast and there was no such thing as faster hit recovery items. The game was more strategic, you had to apply run and hit tactics alot more. You didn't have one all-powerful skill, and neither did monsters have one all-powerful attack.
Now, in Diablo 3 I reckon they're going for the middle-ground when it comes to difficulty. They still want you to run through the game fast, but also want to challenge you more than in D2. Hence, health orbs and no more one all-powerful attack.
So, to recap:
Diablo 1: had health potions. To still remain challenging, all monsters could kill you really fast.
Diablo 2: had health potions. To still remain challenging, some monsters could kill you really fast.
Diablo 3: no more being killed really fast. To still remain challenging, no more health potions.
The challenge of a game has everything to do with how the enemies act, how you regain health, and how fast you can kill. It has nothing to do with how powerful it *feels* like your character is. That is just effects and sounds.
AMazingly well said. I personally would like to have friends play d1 legitly with me and use stradegy than in d2.

Those would all allow for glass cannon builds with maximum damage and minimal necessary life. Which can be very unbalancing to a game.
Which every game has. Its a tradeoff, do you choose to be a glass cannon, a jack of all trades, or a survivalist tank?
Your logic doesn't make sense because ANY build type can be unbalancing. Look at the concept of "tanking" in any MMO. A single character, through carefully selected skills, buffs and attributes can keep the attention of the enemy on it solely, allowing other classes to focus on healing or damage. Without a "tank" the entire raid falls apart, which makes tanks very unbalancing because the other characters are built around the concept of having a tank in the "keystone" position.
D2 was awesome in this regard, because the bosses attacks, like Diablo's Lightning Hose were, for a long time, un-tankable, without very specific items, and the bosses attack EVERYBODY, forcing tactical positioning and awareness. Which meant glass cannons were at a distinct disadvantage because they could die easily, survivalists might not do enough damage to matter, and jack of all trades engaged in a battle of attrition.
So really, I am all for different builds, especially at the attribute level which allow for unconventional builds ala the Singing Barb and Meleemancer. I want to be able to build a 450 Strength Barb who one hit kills things with a huge hammer, but can get killed easily if swarmed. I want to build a max defense Wizard who dispatches enemies one at a time with a sword, using defensive magic to compensate.
Who said there's no stat point allocation/life leech? If this is true, I'm not buying D3. Yes, that is a fact.
Well then GTFO off the site and OP get a life ..lol runewords sucked my dick cuz all people would do is search for the best runewords add em up onto their item and become godly with ease..and im gladd theres no stat point allocation its easier for my life...and i highly doub th egame will be shorter than d2 or equal to d2 from what i can see its going to be much much bigger

Attacking someone because they have a different opinion than you is the hallmark of low intelligence.
How were runewords any different from any other top gear in D2? How was acquiring powerful runewords any different than everyone looking for Shako, Shaftstop, Arkaine's Valor, Windforce, and Stormshield?
Runewords were a GREAT addition not only from a fantasy concept, but also allowed new players without great gear or MF Barbs with 1000% or more to get decent gear and be able to compete in the harder difficulties of LoD.
Your words speak of ignorance and intolerance to others. And realistically speaking, the game's total length is irrelevant because its designed to be played over and over again.
They are making D3 very much like a Gauntlet game. Whether thats a good thing or a bad thing will vary with different people, but the similarities are there.
Heath drops that are not storable
Bosses are vastly larger than your character
4 player limit
Unable to return to town mid quest
God like heroes
Over the top skills
Vivid, some times clashing colors
Grand scale to environment
Gold based economy
Enemy generators
All skills are AoE damage skills
Lots of violence and blood, but in a humourus way, "sylized" way
Auto stats.
So, yes. D3 is like an arcade game in the sense that they removed the RPG aspect, and made it almost entirely a Hack n'Slash, but to some people that isn't automatically a turn off.
I think runes in skills are around, oh, 1000 times better than in items. It's the one idea I think Diablo 3 really achieved innovation with.

what's thit that? i didn't hear of ir before? what about town portals? Diablo is based on town portals (for me of course)
about the stats, i always hated them... anyway, i missed so much the books from D1 in D2, but i got used to it so i think the differences can be good...
i think we should wait to the relase and see the final product...
TBH a lot of your points are very narrow minded/backwards thinking.
1) Firstly 4 players per game
-Easier to get a full game
-Makes balancing difficulties on no. of players easier
-limits spam/add bots effectiveness (hopefully remove them all together)
-Reduced Lag
-With the massive graphics upgrade on a lot of abilities it would make for some intense system requirements with 8 players.
Depends how it plays out, but atm it looks like win, win, win, WIN.
I do admit it might remove a little bit of the epicness feel of it.... but from what i've seen/heard the starting environment is very dark and feels like Diablo 1 with a massive graphics upgrade (<3 D1 forever) D1 also only had 4 players per game.
2) No stat allocation.
I'm personally for as much customisability as possible and at first this sounded like a downer... but seriously think about how stat allocation went in Diablo 2...
Strength: - Enough to wear the "best" gear
Dexterity: - None, or enough to wear gear/max block
Vitality: - Every point that wasn't needed in Strength/Dexterity
Energy: - None ever....
And don't try to say otherwise because most serious players this was exactly how the points were spent, and because of this, hell difficulty was tuned based on the assumption that all players there had a similar stat distribution. This is not customisation, this is pigeon holing.
I never liked the stat allocation system in D2 except for the one class where it mattered, the dragon tail Kick Assassin.
The one positive thing was that it allowed for creative random builds like melee casters etc.... but even some of those (such as energy shield sorcs) were over powered.
Overall it just makes balancing easier, and is less harsh on beginners.
3) Potions/Life Leech.
Again Blizzard have stated multiple times why they wanted these two things to go, basically you get anout potions and life leech and you are invincible... you gain life faster than you lose it and it's a never ending resource. THEREFORE the only way to challenge you is to make monsters/bosses that can one shot you... and how fun is being invincible 90% of the time and then killed in one hit?
This also adds strategy to how you move in combat, if you need a heal and there are multiple zombies in between you and the orb you have to get around them (or kill them) some how instead of mindlesly charging to the next area.
4) Runewords
Subject to personal opinion, however these were the single worst thing to happen to Diablo 2.
They started out rediculously underpowered, or average, but requiring expensive/rare runes, and ended up being completely over powered, to the point where everyone had teleport, 5 aura's, and multiple rediculous runewords....
Once again the game became balanced around this and makes it impossible for the casual gamer to enjoy, because the game is set to "runeword difficulty"
5) In regards to the "suspense/horror" being taken away because characters are too powerful....
There was a post from a D3 dev mentioning that normal mode would be very easy and nightmare/hell would be the challenging area's. This is so that the new players are not immediately put off by a steep learning curve, it also makes leveling multiple alternate characters less painful (at least in the early stage)
I also don't recall Diablo 2 ever being that challenging in normal unless you got rushed...
Massive conclusion... I've seen far too many posts, bagging something they haven't tried, something that isn't finished and claiming "they are never going to play D3 now". Please stop with the ignorant/narrow minded postings and if the game that is far from completion upsets you that much... go for a bike ride, listen to some music... do something else and don't worry about it.
It isn't even in Alpha and people are treating it as if it's about to be released tomorrow and is finalised.
