If there are going to be no guns in D3 I doubt there will be any in D3 Expansion since expansions usually are a direct continuation. Possibly in D4 though depending how much time has passed.
When they were making diablo 2 originally, they could have said "there are no claws, charms, etc". Guns are a bit different because it involves technology... but they have to release some sort of new type of weapons for the expansion, it could turn out they have no other good ideas and I dont think guns would be that bad. I mean guns aren't OP, Rambo proves that.
Shh, don't say that, you'll make Bruce Campbell cry.
Guns have no place in Sanctuary (yet) though.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Just to clarify: no one in this planet NEVER EVER claimed the possibility of bazookas/smg's/9mm/shotguns in D3. It was all about primitive guns like muskets, and all based on one of Qual-Kehk's lines when you gossip with - in this one he speaks about Larzuk having strange ideas about combining explosive powders and iron pipes.
As we see, no speculation needed anymore, at least for D3. But it doesn't rule out some muskets in D4, if they advance the timeline a bit - besides, they now remember they have a canonic excuse and some small support in the comunity (people like me and Ranim, who have nothing against properly implemented firearms).
Well, that's one thing that helps ease my concious.
Now lets hope they keep out T.N.T. and stuff. Exploding potions are similar, but they make the game feel more medieval.
China invented explosive elixers before the Bible.
Chinese Buddhists were trying to make what they called 'Potion of Life.'
I think it was to increase age expectancy, I don't remember as well as I used to, but basically it was for people's health/well being; and so they accidentally invented an explosive elixer which brought upon gunpowder.
That's why they go crazy with fireworks.
When you think about it, guns would make perfect sense.
However, in Diablo it would be rather hard to have the variants staves and melee weapons have.
What? One gun will do 30 more damage than another?
Magical bullets?

I'm still quite sure there will be a mage/wizard/elementalist and a hunter/archer/bow-wielding class, so if this one is the class being unveiled in Blizzcon it will be a disappointment for me since it would bring no news.

For me there wasn't just the quote, I accumulated evidence on both the Asian elements and enigmatic consumables which all pointed loosely to the strong capability for it to work, I mean liberally I could say that but realistically it means that cannons of some stretch are acceptable.

Sadly the isometric gameplay limits the presentation effect that a gun would have, it's unlikely because of that, however.... if they should attempt a wow-ish non MMO styled RPG game it may work, it's just that we won't see it for a decade.
Magic Bullets and different calibers, it's the same thing as a crossbow essensially. The only reason people have a hard time imagining it working is because of the shape of the item, I figure if you put aside that irregularity it will work simply because other items do so as well. It's weord to think a crossbow can have fire arrows and magic arrows but a gun can't be equally applied.
Well I'm glad there won't be guns as no fantasy type game has ever made a really positive impact of it and it seems the fantasy crowd just don't like it.:(
I suppose it would be more acceptible if at one point your character steps thru a portal and travels to quest in a different realm that includes guns...
I would imagine the game would do much better to go back PRIOR to Diablo 1 into a Greek/Celtic/Roman matriarchal bronze age (In the same way Star Wars went back to explore episode 1) rather than forward into an age of unreliable blunderbuss and muskets however amusing exploding guns may be.
1) Fallout 1-2, Arcanium, Warcraft 3, Heroes of Annihilated Empires, Dungeon Siege, all the warhammer stuff, ect. There are a few more fantasy games that had guns that were quite well presented, I just can't recall them. Point is, you're thinking of a Dungeons & Dragons fantasy. I wouldn't say something what you said, but I agree on the glad there are no guns, since it'd be ugly and a waste of resources, but I think that only because of the Isometric nature of the camera, it would reduce it's appeal dramatically.
2) That actually wouldn't be so bad, they've done parodies before, why not a Star Trek Parody
3) I disagree, since most of the stuff in the game is from ahead of the time period (13th Century in Sanctuary) and from previous generations (many items, Druids, Necromancers, Amazons, Barbarians)
If you notice there was even an identity crisis in the first game.
By the way, Greek/Celtic/Roman societies were not Matriarchal, they were Dominantly Patriarchal, women were in a close second but when push came to shove men won out no question (not literally) Especially greek society. Though to be fair there were unspoken checks and balances that gave women advantages that men did not have.
Thank you Blizzard, no guns!!! I am so happy for this idea that I had to post something and i usually just read. The next thing we need is some shitty ass character shooting bullets at Diablo or Tyreal :P.

seriously now, it would be a shock if they had guns in Diablo 3, they dont suit the universe at all!
Shh, don't say that, you'll make Bruce Campbell cry.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
