Well yeh, but I never really cared about the variable stats in the uniques. I liked it better when you got what you got. Now it just pisses off when it's low version. Same goes for runewords, why my runes are worse than my friends who got perfect and I got a frikin useless one
There's one thing you don't need to worry about anymore, yeah?

Asking why your runeword should be worse than your friends is like asking why you found the runes and he didnt. It's a game a chance, you can't take issue with chance of making a good or bad runeword, if you dont also take issue with the chance you find a good or bad rune.
He did use the words: "currently do not have" durability.
Currently can change at any point in the game creation process. I'd be skeptical all the way up until the beta or release date (or unless they (meaning Jay) says: "there will be no durability on items what-so-ever")
You just never know up until that date.
My take > Things tend to wear out over constant use and Identifying things to be surprised is fun!

Well think about spirit shield for example, everyone can get these runes easy.. it's not about finding the runes, it is all about having luck with the roll.
Imo the system should have been something like this:
you have amn ort tal runeword for example that creates an item with min 20% cast max 35% cast. Now the variety would be determined by the first rune for example. You can have Amn Ort Tal for the max stats, BUT change the first rune to make the same item but with less cast rate. Thul Ort Tal for 30% cast and Ort Ort Tal for 25% cast etc.
This way the highest runewords could be available for everyone with a bit lesser stats than the best one.
Well anyways the runewords are gone in D3 so it doesn't matter anymore.. thank god.
I loved the identification scrolls. Especially if they choose to go with itemization more like D2Classic, which I hope they do, where rare items have the ability to be some of the best items in the game if you get lucky on those prefix and suffix rolls it was such a thrill to see just what you got. Even with uniques there is the thrill of identification. You got the excitement of seeing those gold letters drop on the ground and then another moment of baited breath as you identified the item to see just how much enhanced damage or magic find you got. Was it that 8/8 vampiregaze? Was it a perfect 200% Buriza?

good point. I sure hope this is a 'we havnt gotten around to that' instead of a 'we arent currently planning that' sort of currently.
But the fact that he talks about working durability into death points that they at least trying to move away from the D2 system. Right now, everything is basically following this philosophy:
If it isn't fighting, or it isn't part of the story, it has to go. No exceptions.
If they follow that the philosophy too much they will end up with Gauntlet 6, not Diablo 3.
I can only speak for myself, and I know that Diablo is an action rpg, but lets not forget the RPG part in entirely. For me, the more things you can interact with, the more you can get into the game.

You act like you never heard any of the interviews. They are actually working very hard to put tons more RPG elements than D1 and D2 had. There is going to be much more interaction on every level, and each character class will immerse in the story differently. Don't even let me started on the random quest system and their general philosophy in that regard.
:confused:Right. . . so that stuff is great, of course. . but as I said, the more stuff you can interact with, the better (for me). Plus, as others have mentioned, removing any mechanic will not only reduce the level interaction in the game, it could reduce strategy. I don't see any problem with durability. It barely cost any gold, execpt if you had charges, which is being discussed in another thread. If something you had broke in the wild, and if you didn't have a TP, you would have to improvise until you found one.
You act like everthing anyone says about D3 that isn't "it's perfect" is a bad thing and should not be allowed, and you are very hostile about it, too. This is a forum. People discuss things both good and bad.[B] I think D3 will be a wonderful game, okay?
