I was flipping through the artwork on the diii website and loved the Crater Troop artwork. As someone readily anticipating the arrival of this game, I'm excited to see what that particular level/region will contain. Can't wait to hack and slash my way through there!
Also, image 58/63 in the artwork files. The hurricane-esque image...could this be some kind of hidden city being revealed? Like it was lost in the desert and is somehow emerging to the eye of the beholder? I'm not extremely familiar with the Diablo lore, so if anyone knows more and could debunk this hypothosis, that'd be good.

I'm kind of lazy, can you link to those images you're talking about?
The smoking crater in the trailer, which most of us assume is the Arreat Crater looks amazing, if not utterly terrifying. It definitely has an enemy territory feel to it such as Mordor, or Red Mountain in Morrowind.
PERFECT! Thank you! The Crater will be a joy to tear apart most definately.
Any thoughts on the second image? Upon further investigation, there is a man on the cliff to the left...and it appears as if he could be summoning something???
Well it could be like you said a city revealing itself, but the shrubbery along the side of the hole make it seem like it's been there a while. So there is no telling what it could be.
Could be a mine/quarry like people have said before. Could be something to do with the magely looking man to the bottom left of the picture, or it could be a giant Sand Maggot hole. Really anything's possible at this point.

I've even wondered if it is a cultist. Cultists may tend to congregate near major landmarks or locations of cataclysmic events.
Quick question... are the Crater troops in the Gameplay video or no??
I don't think so the dark berzerkers are but they look alittle similar. they work with the dark cultists tho my guess is crater troops are the army thta work for whatever demon (my guess big D) is in the crater

YUCK!
yeah that's the first thing i did when i saw the update the day it was shown was check out the cinematic video and they do look similar and im sure it is them cause that concept is probably very early stages and the cinematic was done later.. just guessing, so i would say yes they are the same. that uh town dug into the desert though i don't know.. the diablo franchise has never had two "safe-spots" in one act before(towns.) it's always the main town of the act then that's it.. so unless they talk about that concept art more then i think we're left in the dark to wonder.
by the way i just noticed in the concept art of the dug in desert "city" theres a man standing on the rock to the left of the image(overlooking the "city"), looks like a mage so we *definately know there will be a mage(nothin' but magic) type class in the game... looks like an npc though.
that's actually 2 different angels as you can see. the one with the hood and lit crest on his chest is tyrael and as you can see he clearly is good. the other one looks like hes dressed for war with the helmet and all.. evil looking hands that are almost like claws.
Actually to me it looks like the same angel just the shot with the cross on his chest he has his head tilted back.
wow. did you see the very top image by any chance?
im not trying to be a smart ass but if people had just a little more common sense you can clearly see 2 angels if they wanted to show just one then they would copy and paste the top angel through all the images and remove the very top picture. if you're an idiot though then you wouldn't of noticed that its just 2 drawings that were copy and pasted into each image (2 mysterious angel, 3 tyrael) with image alterations around them.

Did you happen to notice the supposedly two different angels are in the exact same spot the bottom pictures only an inch higher at most?
The very top picture which is a sketch, yes I think there is two angels, and I think the one shielding it's eyes is Tyrael but the rest of the pictures all appear to be the same angel to me.
Anyone else see a small resemblance between the Crater Assault Trooper and the Knight/Paladin looking guy in the "Cain's Journal" part of the Diablo III website (page 13) or even the monster sketch on page 9? Perhaps its just me.

Don't try to be a great man, just be a man... and let history make its own judgment. -Zefram Cochrane, Star Trek
That "hurricane" thing to me looks more like a hole in the ground that has a path around the side. At first it looked more storm like, but then I noticed the amount of sideways strokes on something stable like the rock in the foreground and I thought the storm effect was simply a result of the artist's style...
Idk, but i'm thinking that it's two different angels, 1 that came out of the crater and the other Tyreal.
Don't know why an angel would come out of a meteor tho...
