hah if anyone is still running the same computer they used for D2... yikes!
Anyway... Mac Pro Intel Quad-core, 2gb RAM, GeForce 8800 GT. I'm just glad Blizzard is continuing dual-platform - I'm tired of having to run boot camp for my other games.
My original D2 computer(when the game was released) was 400mhz celeron 65MB of sdram(133mhz iirc) 8.4gb hdd and voodoo3 2000.. try open a todays web pages with that would be a massive achievement.
Now:
E6600 2.4ghz
4gb 800mhz ram
~1tb hdd space.. free is a lot less
8800gts 320mb
i guess it runs it perfectly with max settings but probably have upgraded when the game releases in what 2010?
Sell that 8800GT, buy a 9600GT for the same price you sold this one, buy another 9600GT for SLI (if it's what you really wanted), or just buy 2x 9600GSO's 384 or 768 mb versions and overclock the shiznich out of 'em.
Or better yet, don't sell the 8800GT and wait for the next generation of GPU's.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees
dont even wanna mention my specs. this piece cant even run d2 without lag so bad of about 8-20 fps with the map on. the reason being i dont even HAVE a graphics card. its a "graphics chipset family". also got a crap processor. theres really nothing postivie about this :\
gunna just go buy a new computer couple months b4 d3 comes out. cost about the same as upgrading this one :\

(this build was before D3 launched... looking back on it now - i had no idea what i was doing)

you wouldnt even be able to upgrade that one lol...
I'm guessing they have gobs of money to just throw around. And like art alot?
Otherwise, I dunno.
Personally, I'd never buy a Mac, especially if I wanted a powerful gaming machine. Just thinking about it makes "Wasted money" flash before my eyes.
But my computer specs... well I don't know them. I don't want to know them. I have a crap Dell xp from 2002, breaks itself constantly so I've stopped trying to fix it. Freakin' wininet.dll.
I'll hopefully be getting a new one soon, and shoot for the better graphics cards that'll be sure to run D3 once it's released.

8800GT>9600GT.
8800GT>9600GSO
9600GSO=8800GS
Don't give advise that's incorrect, please.
All these specs sound like overkill. Based on the interviews that I've read from the D3 devs, apparently they're still using an isometric view, albeit also using a 3D engine, but in any case, I'm willing to bet the graphics requirements won't be all that high. Now, I run a farily high end machine, and I upgrade every year, so that's never a problem for me. I don't think you'll need the latest and greatest.
I'm just hoping for a resolution higher than 800x600...
8800GT>9600GT.
8800GT>9600GSO
9600GSO=8800GS
Don't give advise that's incorrect, please.
The 8800GT costs more than 120$ cheapest, while the 9600GT is about 90$ . That's a 30$ difference ( 1/4 of the price), and it's about 15% slower in newer games. He said he wanted to go SLI (which in my opinion is stupid and pointless, coming form a fairly satisfied owner of almost 2-year old 8800GTX's in SLI), but each to his own and that is why I mentioned the 9600GT.
When in SLI, he would save 60$, and lose ~12% od the performance. Just so I'm not pulling it out of my ass : http://en.expreview.com/2008/03/25/nvidia-sli-performance-scaling-test/?page=9
^That is - when buying both GPU's anew.
There are such thing as lackluster driver updates (in the future), resolution scaling, different architectural designs, number of pipelines, ageia physx drivers etc. which could be discussed for hours and still not have the definitive answer we're looking for, so let's not bother discussing it at all aye? It's price/rerformance what it's all about.
Then I mentioned the 9600GSO/rebranded 8800GS (that comes in a 384mb or 768 flavour). When both 9600GSO and 9600GT are overclocked , at a lower resolution (say 14x9 or 16x12 even), sometimes even with 4xAA it manages to outperfom a 9600GT with 512mb vram at about 3-4% on average (not in all games mind you), while costing about 7$ less. If you happen to chance upon this version http://lly316.blogspot.com/2008/05/how-to-softmod-9600gso-into-8800gts.html you could softmod it to perform as a full-fledged G92 8800GTS with unlocked 512mb of ram and increased shader count as well as a 256bit memory bus.
But, to really give my opinion: *Or better yet, don't sell the 8800GT and wait for the next generation of GPU's.*
as I said before. Except for Crysis (or the upcoming Warhead or Farcry 2 perchance- which was said to be "better optimised"), what other games are there that demand a better graphics card?

But since he already has an 8800gt, wouldn't it make more sense to just get another one of those, and SLI them?
Just selling it, paying tax and shipping would eat up any monetary gain from selling it. I bought my 8800gt(s) when they were $300, selling them for $100 each now would make no sense, esp. to 'upgrade' to a weaker card.
Anyway, I agree, SLI is in my opinion, a solution looking for a problem. (Also, from what I've seem, SLI sets don't oc as well as single cards.)
Keep your 8800gt, it's a fine card.
My 8800GS is a good card for folding, but I haven't gamed on it. The shaders like to OC a lot more than the GT, but it has less of them.
My asus EN9800GT ultimate ownz them both. (More shaders yet, and they OC higher than my 8800GS.) Yes, it's a rebadged 8800gtx, but with a fast factory OC, it beats a stock 8800gtx.
That, in my opinion, is the best bang for the buck (Currently.) from nvidia. Yes, it's a 2 slot card. The ultimate model has the 'extra' shaders over the regular 9800gt.
Would I yank out a prefectly good 8800GT and put that in there for an upgrade? No, of course not. So replacing it with a weaker card makes less sense. Or 2 of them. (Makes less sense yet.)
We don't even know if diablo 3 will see any improvement from SLI. Way too soon to tell. They don't have a retail product yet.
I just didn't want anybody to automatically assume that any 9 series card will be an upgrade to a 8800gt.
Nvidia's policy of rebadging makes it very confusing for some (Uninformed.) customers.
