Broodwar have around 30 stages (about the same as original SC).
The Frozen Throen also have around 30 stages plus the Orc RPG (about the same as oroginal warcraft3).
Tides of Blood also have the same number of levels as the original war2.
I`ve no idea why only Diablo have to have ONE new act, something that we all can finish at the same day we buy the game u.u LoD was a bitterful expansion in my opnion.
If diablo 3 going to have 4 ACTs i really want the exp to have at 3 new acts.
Diablo 2 + LoD is about 6 hours to be finished (no rushing, just questing). Nowdays any single of a RPG/Action game with less then 15 hours is big shame.

They're just saying 4 acts right now, who knows, it could change, it's not ever until it's over.
In terms of walking space Diablo 2 was fucking huge, so this game, since it's in a different system, may be much larger than we're idealizing. At least that' what i'm hoping, the reality is that I think they've got proof of concept but it they it's going to be such a thin line they're walking, because they need to balance replayablity with length and content.
I would much prefer that they take 4 more years and create 10 acts.
A graphically sensable game, but so large that it's quite demanding on computers in terms of hard drive space, say 30 gig.
They could do what they do with MMO's and add content every few months, like an Act and just let the story progress, a constantly evolving Isometric Hack and Slash.
That's just a random thought, probably a useless one at that.
I suggest a (one act + 2 more char's) every one Exp...
If they had two I wouldn't want the second to be a carbon copy of the first ones structure... to me.
Assuming the game is wildly successful/popular
First expansion - 1 act, 2 new classes
Second expansion - A whole new difficulty past hell (maybe, depends on how replayable it is), new tier of items (normal, exceptional, elite etc.) and new skills for the remaning classes maybe take another 2 tiers in the skill trees (more powerful than level 40 ones obviously). Also add in at least one more entirely new item type that has significant impact on the game.

"If we're actually making the game worse with no other reason than to be different from WoW, then it's a bad choice." - Jay Wilson (D3 lead designer)
Never going to happen -
1 it's not practical
&
2 it's not profitable
Unless you charge people for new act - which would be a rip-off joke
Unless you expect them to produce new acts for free - with new acts not only new quests new monsters new boss?
add a 3rd one - it's not possible!
That's actually very obvious but thanks for pointing it out to the lesser fans out there.
btw I was talking about an ideal game not a realistic game.
They can't kill cain off!!!! If they do, whos gonna be the main go to guy in World Of Diablo? Tyrael? Never!!!! If they do make a WOD I hope all the items are still unidentified just to make it different than warcraft :P.
I know its off topic but ima explore that a little. A WOD while enabling so many cool new things to explore in diablo is kinda the anti-god in a lore perspective. I mean after you kill every single demon ever mentioned what then? Do you really want to raid like Trang Oul and ruin the amazing lore. They did that with Illidan and now are doing it to Arthas in this expansion
LOL the classic expansionpack before game is released discussion. :D:cute:
With the exception of the fact Blizzard have confirmed there is an expansion pack for D3. That seems different from most expansion before game is released discussions.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
i can see 2 expansions especially cause they just started doing double expansions with wow....why not make double expansions for d3. if there are 2 then it will be 2 classes and an act then 1 class and an act....

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
having multible expansions for a MMO is not uncommon. Most likely Blizzard will not make a WoW2. i have never heard of a sequal for any MMO game (i could be wrong though). Having 2 expansions for a game like Diablo is not common but is still possible.
I would love to see to expansions for D3 but most likely there will only be one.

no fucking world of Diablo its a one of the dumbest ideas ever brought to this site how many times must i say it. Diablo is already a single character game and it already has missions as you travel through Sanctuary. Diablo has almost everything that a MMO has so to me it doesn't have to be a MMO.

Well since D2 was supposed to have 2 Expansions before they ended up scraping it due to whatever reasons, I think its safe to say that they'll try their best to have at least 2 expansions for Diablo 3.. I mean, their intent was to create 2 expansions for D2, and just because they ended up scrapping it doesn't change the fact that they aimed to create 2 expansions..
Besides, with the way $ is being spent these days on video-games, I'd be surprised if they don't at least have 2 expansions for D3..
I would be very disappointed though if the initial release only has 4 Acts.. I always pictured that D3's size would put D2: LoD to shame..

Lace me with the words of destruction and I'll explode, but supply me with the will to survive and watch the world grow.
Salvation was going along fine until Blizzard split. It wasn't really scrapped, it was just so underdeveloped that Blizzard didn't feel like working on it.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
Since Blizzard wields one of the more stronger budgets and shows no signs of dying. It's safe to say that they can make as many Expansions and sequels as they want.
i dont think they will make an expac for stores, if any itll be download only. why bother with ex pac when theyve told us they can just create new content and patch it in? that seems like a way around a huge ex pac
What, like runes? If they do runewords again, I'd hope for there to be a wiki inside the game, or maybe even a *suggestion* system, that says "with your current skill setup, we suggest you farm for the runewords [...], [...] and [...]". Would make it alot less confusing to casual gamers. It took me a while to get into rune words in D2, because I didn't like the idea of looking up stuff online and finding all of that out yourself is kinda impossible. But, that might be a discussion for another thread..
No not like runewords... like crafted. Instead of a new socketing mechanic i meant an actual new type of item... like sets or something.

It would also require a new level cap.. maybe even a new tier of skills :/
Thats why I said they should add that >.<, also a new quality of item, like how there was the normal version of an item in its white status then there was the exceptional version in NM and the elite version in hell... most with unique equivalents.

I noticed that in the live interviews, Jay notably says "future expansions." Assuming that he said this deliberately, it may be safe to expect more than 1 expansion.
