as mentioned before, the main reason to buy such a bundle would be a discount of the game, but i dont think i'd take it. I prefer nvidia cards and i also prefer to have the collector's editions of (especially the Blizzard) games. I'm buying a new computer on Christmas that will be sure to run Diablo III maxed out (and most of the current shooters just to make sure it will last as long as possible). Maybe long enough for the next-gen mmo from Blizzard too
Hahah, I can't tell if Credge was joking or not but I still think the 9800 Pro will run it with little issues (not at max settings though).
Also 5 players in one game all spamming spells with over the top effects will need some good graphics support.
And possibly Djinn_690, could be with everyone spamming spells and the like...hmm. Not sure but I just keep thinking about how Blizzard makes their games, I used to play WoW with that 9800 Pro and it wasn't "that" bad. Raids time forget it (turned stuff off) but regular grouping and such it was fine and that was an MMO.
Just too early to tell but fun to discuss about.

And how much better does Diablo III look then WoW? I think the 9800 might have a small chance, a very small one.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
Possibly Krow, not as familiar with these type of games on our rigs. Diablo 3 does look nice.
Anyone with experience with RTS games or similar to D3 style with "similar" graphics, how does it fare on your gaming rig? (preferably newer games) Maybe you could mention which processor you have and video card too.
Most of my experiences are in MMOs and FPSs. I did play WC3 but that's cartoony, probably affects things differently. I'm trying to get a visual, especially in games where you got like 30-50 things going on at once like Company of Heroes or a Command & Conquer game.

I don't really keep tabs on this, but whatever happend to NVidia and Blizzard relations? I always felt Blizzard games played better and were alot more stable one NVidia graphics cards than AMD. And didn't Blizz always support Nvidia in the past like they are doing now with AMD? Anyone who actually keeps up on this kind of stuff plz drop a post.

That is correct, at last years blizzcon and for the last 5 years or so it was all about Nvidia and their cards work perfect with Blizzards games. I don't care what card blizzard is recommending I will NEVER buy another ATI Radeon graphics card again, the last 2 I had were nothing but problems. I will always get Nvidia from now on.
nVidia has been leading for a surprisingly long time. However, the tables have turned and AMD now boasts the fastest card on the planet, HD4870X2. It's faster than the 9800GX2. Yeah Zoltrix, recent AMD cards have been garbage, but they are just getting back.

What? I get a fine 60-70 frames in Bioshock on the highest settings allowed (dx9) on my 30 incher. I don't see how you could ever actually think this game will ever be hard on your video card, especially with the knowledge that Blizzard makes games highly optimized.
Or, to put it in a different perspective, I ran Age of Conan on the highest settings and didn't experience much of anything besides the occasional spurt of lag in raids.
yes, right now AMD/ATi have the fastest graphics cards. The Radeon HD 4870 X2 is a high resolution beast that makes the nVidia GTX280 look like a joke. However, the 4870 X2 only gets to strut its stuff at ultra-high resolutions of 1920x1200 and 2560x1600 where all other graphics cards struggle considerably (in some games at those resolutions, the 4870 X2 is twice as fast as a GTX280). However, in low resolutions, the 4870 X2 is overkill.
Diablo 3 is not coming out for at least a full year from now (try more than a year). When it comes out, there will have been at least 3 new graphics card generations so I highly recommend that unless you play other games and want a new card now, just wait cuz you will be paying for outdated parts. And by paying for outdated parts, I mean you will buy a 300 dollar graphics card now and only get to stress it in 2 years whereas you can wait 2 years, buy a 300 dollar graphics card then and have a card that will play Diablo 3 and then any game that comes out from then until about 2 years later at max settings.
Well, the 4870 will probably run Diablo III at even high resolutions, but I have my doubts with the 4850.
Are you kidding me? The 4850 will CRUSH that game with max settings and the largest resolution, as well as an 8800GT. After reading every post you made in this thread, you're obviously lacking hardware knowledge, no offense. This is a Blizzard game after all.

Sadly you're incorrect, Nvidia still has a performance edge on ATI thanks to SLI - when it comes down to money and single card configs, your best bet by far is to go with ATI's 4870 for $260 or 9800GX2 for $310. Unless you can do SLI, then by all means pick up two 8800GT's for $220. I do say this because as of late there is many conflicting webpages that sway to both ATI and Nvidia. For example, on tomshardware Nvidia is crushing ATI and on anandtech, ATI is crushing Nvidia - which is it? Good question, we won't really find out for a couple more months. But so far, after trading in my 8800 GTX that I've had since the card was released for an ATI 4870, I could not be more happier.
Radeon usually isn't compatible in some way with every game. It's not as good as an all-rounder as nVidia.
Can you prove this? You can't because it's like a coin toss. I've had ATI and Nvidia now for 10 years and I have to say they're pretty equal when it comes to compatibility. Each generation of cards have either a) Been equal in the terms of performance Been dominated by their competition or c) Slightly dominated.
Back when the 9700 came out from ATI, Nvidia was shaking in their boots for a good year and a half (see - then after that the natural balance of technology evened the cards out everything was almost dead on equal(see a). TILL the 8800 GTX slammed itself in, was a beauty, ATI couldn't touch it for(see b)... Guess? A year and a half, now? (see c) Ati is back in the game with a slight advantage. Your statement unfortunately is a few months late, now it's based on preference.

I bought a Radeon card few years back, and the little bastard quit on me in the first week of getting it. Thats $350 down the drain, i ended up getting one for free by tricking the cashier and the helper with bullshit.

SAY WHAT AGAIN, I DARE YOU, I DOUBLE DARE YOU MOTHER ******
Would someone please tell me their opinion of the 8600gt graphics card. I would like to update from my on board graphics of 6150 nforce 430 (HP a6200n, 3 gigs ram). I however do not want to spend a lot of money.
I could get a 8600gt for about 50-60 dollars with a mail in rebate and would like some opinions as well as a suggested brand. It seems eVGA is supposed to be good. According to what I read this card would be good. As it is I may just wait it out until D3 is released or closer to when it is released. The demo (when it comes out) will also be a huge decider for me whether I will upgrade. Maybe cards will be cheaper by then also?
Thanks.
EDIT: NEVER MIND I'M NOT GOING TO UPGRADE YET.

I believe my 9800 will run D3 on the highest settings and resolutions without a hiccup.
You're joking right?
On a 30 inch monitor with max settings?

Yes, it came out sometime in August.
