everything was fine in d2, but now theyre removing and not adding runewords in d3, everything will be fine. Uniques will be the best type of item... i hope. Or maybe even make sets way better..Only a few sets were used in d2... tals,IK, and who can forget SIGONS!
Uniques in general may have not been that uncommon, however the top tier uniques were for the most part very rare. I like having unique items drop of bosses. You know your going to get something special when you see that gold text on your screen, it was always a rush before you Identified them. I think drop rates for unique items were done perfectly in Diablo2.
Unique items dropped a decent amount, but really high level uniques had a very slim chance to drop. This drop rate allows for the satisfaction of achieving unique items during normal play troughs, but only really having a chance at the best uniques after lots of time spent playing the hardest and highest levels of the game. Of course you could always just get lucky which is also pretty exciting for the player as well.

dont forget full gris fohers... those can be nice... but full faceted gris is expensive lol
and i think in my whole mfing career i had one good day mfing... wasnt even a day... one good run... meph dropped soj and arach... everything else ive ever mfd has been like gimmershreds or sets or some shitty uniques like nagels lol
Every time i would kill a boss and see a gold text item i get excited. Like a few years ago a gold text ring fell and i was like "holy crap this could be a soj". I tped as soon as i could and went straight to cain. It turn out to be a very very crappy nagel ring and i was so disapointed. Every time a unique item fell it turn out be really crappy or shitty. The greatest items i have ever got from a drop was:
A herald of zakarum (hoz) in nm chaos run.
A 149 def shako in a hell baal run.
3 soc archon plate with 10% def in a hell chaos run.
Those were found by my ww barb who had only 30 mf.

SAY WHAT AGAIN, I DARE YOU, I DOUBLE DARE YOU MOTHER ******
It doesn't matter how rare uniques are, if uniques = BEST then the elite players will still have the exact same items.
Imo random affix items (rare/crafted) should have the greatest potential for being the best, at least for the most part. With balancing all weapon types as well, this should stop cookie cutter item sets.
Also there should be more uniques and sets, and no overpowered ones that shine above the rest (Storm Shield / Windforce / Stone of Jordan...). And don't even get me started on the imba rune words like grief and enigma.

how bout unique items being true to their name and have them be UNIQUE... no multiples of items... imagine how great that would be... one coa? one 08 valk? as long as they belong to me
4Players: In the WWI-presentation I saw gems dropping. What about runes?
Jay Wilson: Runes and Gems are in the game, yes. We're not talking about the specifics right now, but I can say, runes are not item-based anymore and they have nothing to do with items anymore. And I'm not a fan of "rune words" and we are really moving away from those.
I like how they are now too. If you only, or mainly, play single player then the drop rates are very reasonable. Especially considering I sell 95% of the uniques I pick up since they don't match my character or are already obsolete (like the 3 Jade Tan Do's I picked up with 1 character). Not every one can use them so it's important that they are dropped rather frequently.
I like collecting runes and gems and putting them into items. And wouldn't mind seeing it again.
I hated how 1.11 rune words were so insanely powerful that all other items were shit compared to them. A single item could be more powerful than an entire set of 6 or 7 items, even one that added +5 to all skills when you pieced it all together. That is just stupid. No single item should be more powerful than 6 items combined.
Unique should be more powerful too. They drop rate is pretty good from what I can see when I play, I can go for ages without seeing one.
The problem is duping. Why should I bother doing umpteen billion runs trying to find items (and I may never find the item at all) when I can dupe items
This problem probably won't come up for a little while in D3 as it is an entirely new game, so there won't be too many editors and hacks for it available for a while. But eventually it will rear it's ugly head again and plague the game.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I think that Uniques where actually pretty balanced in Diablo II.
They wheren't insanely powerful, there was even noob uniques, and the better ones where pretty damn tough to find.
Unique items should be rare in my opinion too. But one thing I hope they do this time around is if they make sets they should make them WORTH collecting. I mean what is the point of collecting an entire set if the bonus's are really bad compared to 2-3 combined Unique items instead of a full entire gear set lol.
I hope they add unique sets this time around.

If you get personally attacked by letters through the internet its a good thing to always have a box of tissues and a band-aid around.
Don't shoot me, because I know the terminology comes from WoW, but wouldn't it be cool to find Legendary items?
Like so rare you only hear of one being found every 3 months? I'd love that.
Yea, like tyraels sacred armor (I've never actually seen that item in game). There should definitely be more of those.
In single player it should be easier to find good items though, I remember it took me several months to find full sigons on single player. I thought I was so bad ass at the time (before I had internet)
I heard a windforce sold for a couple grand at one point because it was so rare. Dont know if it was true, but im sure someone here would.
Hahahaha, if someone EVER spent anywhere near that amount of money on a 'pretend' item I would laugh my ass off. I would never use really money to buy 'fake' stuff (money/items) ever, just out of principle.

Yep, i totally agree

The main problem is the bots and the duping and RUNE WORDS! I don't like at all how runewords overpower any sort of unique for the same slot at all.
Hmmm Grandfather... or Grief/Last Wish. Now I know the runes are rare, but still the gap in effectiveness is immense.

As mentioned above, the dupers are the problem...

I remember finding my first one, I think that feeling would be extended if they were rarer.
