LOL, so many assumptions, so much basic lack of familiarity with the true history combined with an aggressive drive to remain ignorant.
I'm truly sorry if my urge to present facts chafes with someone's fantasy.
No one would be upset if you were presenting facts but you're just spouting nonsesne which could be fact or not, I have no clue since you won't provide evidence that they were forced to leave.
From what I read, they weren't creating D3 as Vivendi wanted then they got into a little trouble. Then they all resigned.
If they really gave a crap about D3 wouldn't they have stayed on to ensure it was made to their standards?
I still don't think anyone really cares except you. They left, that's all that matters. Now Blizzard is doing the game.
I think you're still conflating the ten or so who left for Flagship with the entire sixty or so with credits on the titles.
This is understandable - you have been conditioned to swallow narratives from both Blizzard and Flagship. The former wants you to believe that they are the "team behind Diablo" to quote the former want-ad listing, which helps in their hiring pitch and in their attempts to retain the attention and future dollars of the tens of millions who played and loved the series, while Flagship wanted you (and investors, consumers, etc) to believe that they could justifiably claim that title. Someone unarmed with even the slightest bit of knowledge of the actual history is totally unable to refute either of these narratives or the possibility that both (*gasp*) are too much of a stretch to be considered credible.
The hilarious thing is that even when someone is reminded that Flagship represented less than a fifth of the total Blizzard North crew with a credit on the Diablo series in a post from an hour previous, they still cling to the story. I guess that's the power of marketing. Or maybe just a testament to mental laziness.

Or just the fact I don't care because it makes no difference. I know that Blizzard is making the game now and that's all that matters. I'm not interested in the gaming industries internal politics.
yeah Blizz is definitely going for a M (17+) rated game for the US release.
Quote from Bashiok »
Jay was referring to the German USK rating of 18+. Which is a rating specific to Germany and games sold there.
In the US we have the ESRB, and other countries may have their own rating advisories and labels. For our ESRB rating and US release we have been and still are planning for a "M" for Mature rating.
I have a copy of Diablo 1 with an R18+ sticker on it, which is weird because I do not remember that game carrying the rating here. we use General, Mature, Teen.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Anyways, a game that I believe recieved an AO rating is Manhunt 2. Its not sexual, but its a "satisfying" kill/murder. Here is a link to the first manhunt game.
This is manhunt 2. I need to tell you guys now that the kills you see in this video are all uncencored by coding (cheating/hacking/whatever you call it). If you watch related videos, the kills are actually cencored by blurred colored vision. However, there are some versions that are uncencored. But that is actually really rare and only available in 1 or 2 countries.
D3 is not close to that, D3 does not want to be close to that. Manhunt is more about torturing people and killing them in a violent way, D3 is hacknslash.
The most D3 could get is 18+, but the chances of that is 10%. Its most likely 17+

Manhunt 2 was going to get an AO rating, they calmed it down, and it got M.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

Really? According to some ratings, it still has an AO. But that is probably the countries that were lucky enough to leave it uncut. If the scenes were not blurred and colored, I have no doubt that Manhunt 2 will receive an AO.
Damn all my threads end up in arguments :P. But thanks for the replies guys and sorry I didn't get to read them until now, Manhunt series looks pretty cool in my opinion haha.
The devs said they are shooting for an adult rating. They said from the beginning that Diablo is a mature game and they intend to keep it that way. UGH! I hate ignorance.
No developer in their right mind would want to shoot for an AO rating. If you want to kill your game before it even starts then that is a good reason right there. No retailer, even most online retailers, won't sell AO rated games. You would have to get it from some lowbrow store or off of ebay. If you want your game to sell copies you don't try to get an AO rating. Hence why Manhunt 2 downplayed some of their more graphic scenes.
Who doesnt know by now that Germany censors most of their games that contain violence/gore. So yeah, Diablo 3 will be censored in Germany, and it will probably release before it does in the USA, about a week earlier since they require a specialized shipment of copies, like Hellgate:London and Unreal Tournament 3.

Not complaining - just correcting a few misconceptions.
As were Halloween 3, Exorcist 2, Godfather 3, Hannibal, Star Wars Episode 1, etc..

The first one is made in 2003, so obviously, it can't be too gruesome with the technology that they have
