Interesting revelation concerning runewords, confirming the observation and deductive conclusion of runes witnessed within the gameplay video serving more as consumables.
I like the sounds of how they are doing something new with runes... Hopefully Gems will be a little more in depth, like the "gem synergy" idea I posted a while back... rather than just "+X stat"
I'm liking the sound of how they're planning on doing fights, he's so right in that D2 was either extremely difficult, or extremely easy. The changes look positive... can't wait for Blizzcon.

I think runewords where F***ING great. They only became a problem when people started duping. I think if they solve the duping problem it would be a LOT better than just removing runewords.

The system was fundamentally flawed..
Pre 1.10 - Either useless, or average... but cost to much in rune rarity.
Post 1.10 - Everything cost lots of super rare runes that were just random drops and made too many stupidly over powered items...
There was rarely any middle ground, except with Shael + Eth in a sheild and Ort + Sol (for newbies/poor people) in a helm.
It's a good thing imo, and I'm excited at the prospect of the new rune system

Rune words were so cool in D2 I used to copy them all so I could share them with all my characters. They made a very big difference to the game....
Um, actually that's not really a good thing
The new take on rune words will help make D3 fresh.
I suppose its good. I'll just miss the opportunity to dupe, that's all...

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
And Insight, and Spirit, and Treachery, and Peace.
Then stuff like Obedience etc as middle of the road...
NOTHING wrong with runewords AT ALL, everything wrong with duping.
As for D3, I can see them taking a leaf out of Hellfire's book for runes. Turning them into one use spells (like scrolls in other games), or one use temp stat boosts.
Hmmm.. maybe runes are going to be used to enchant our gear? I.E. minor rune of strength +5 strength to any type of armor... so forth.
Thanks for the article. While I agree that it furthers your consumable theory, I think it's still far from confirming it.
But using a rune doesn't make very much sense. Like, physically. What do you do? Eat it? Rub it on your skin? Put it down your pants?
A potion you can drink, but a rune? Iuno.

I had a real lol at that- it doesn't make much sense yet, they'll probably confirm more stuff about it at the Blizzcon, since that's next month.
I'm glad to see they're doing something new and strange and not just rehashing stuff. I had no problem with runewords post-1.10. The problem was duping runes by the masses. If you could legitimately get a powerful thing like a CTA, then you definitely deserved it and it made you stand out from the rest for your hard work (and maybe a little luck ) But since runes are so easily duped, well... That's really all that's ruining the system imo.

If anything you would just activate the rune with your own magic.
Just cause there is nothing wrong with runewords doesn't mean they couldn't come up with a better system. I trust that they wouldn't have removed runes if they hadn't come up with a more intuitive system first.
the main problem with runewords in D2 was giving skills from specific classes to all classes
That's SO true. It's what killed the uniqueness of character classes! For one, for two - runewords became so ridiculously overpowered that they easily replaced unique items or sets. What's the point of having sets in D2 if Enigma is better than any set chest piece in the game?
I think LoD is an essential part of the game, but I can totally understand people who never moved on because of runewords and shit. Not to mention that the art style went even further away from that gothic feel that you could at least see in places in Act 1. D2 totally raped everything that was cool about Diablo 1 and that's why I'm looking forward to D3 which seems to really be going back to the roots.
D3 will have something much cooler and more balanced to make up for runewords. D2 is without a doubt the most unbalanced game Blizzard ever allowed themselves to release to the public. They will never make the same mistakes.
So happy about this decision. Diablo 2 was just so awesome before runewords took over, if it were still in 1.09, I would probably be just as addicted as I was back then haha.
I personally agree with those that say runewords would be fine without duping - as long as they weren't too under OR overpowered. There would have to be a balance.
Anyway, since that's not going to happen, I just hope the duping never comes back and that there's a good system to replace it.

It may still be fun, but it will be World of Diablo.

now its confirmed that there will def'n be a rogue/mage class for SURE!
