Uh.. I thought that sculpture was supposed to represent the Barbarian owning Diablo at the end of D3.
It is the Barbarian from Diablo 3. You can tell by the fact that he is old and has more hair, as the Barbarian does in this latest game.

Yes, but that wasn't the point. Someone said that he thought the Diablo from the Cinematics trailer was just a flashback to 20 years ago (the end of D2) because he looked the same as in the sculpture. But we've refuted that
I don't even see any pictures in this thread.
I'm lost.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
My point was that this was the Barbarian from the Diablo III time line, as in 20 years later. I know that he is the same from Diablo II, but I meant that this is him 20 years later, having conquered Diablo, not a "flashback" as was previously suggested.

The reason diablo has a hole in his head is because he got so mad that he was easily defeated by a mere-mortal, his forehead got big and out popped (sorta of like zues and athena) a plan to return to our world. Thats why there is a diablo 3.

Look at my signature and I'm wondering if this is diablos true form , then why is their a hole in his head...he no longer uses that crystal in his fore head but why is their still a hole in his head?
Anyone?
do i have the signatures option turned off or do you not have a signature??? because i guess i see other signatures... oh well...
but i believe the hole is there since the Soul Stone no longer resides there...

thats what lots of people assume as well, but in fact its only showing a barbarian over the defeated diablo "In" D3, its not saying thats from the actual game.
if you watch to trailer, it shows tyreal throwing the sword at the worldstone again, so its quite possible its showing the defeat of diablo and the events that followed in a flash back, and the statue is a way of throwing everyone off.
Why would defeating the world stone have anything to do with diablo? It was Baal who peversed the wolrd stone and not Diablo. So why would Baals doing have anything to do with Diablos new incarnation?

Well it was a Soulstone. It contained the essence of Diablo's soul. And in this crazy world of magic, conceiving of such a scar that is visible is not that difficult.
This is why Diablo coming back is sort of a problem for me. If you destroyed his soul stone as well as the world stone, then what is the 'point' of Diablo 2? Stopping Baal? Oh cool. So Diablo 2 wasn't even that important in regards to the story? Makes me feel like these games are rather redundant story wise of Diablo and friends can't be killed.
If the destruction of the world stone means they keep coming back then... what was the point of destroying it? So everyone can feel the wrath of Diablo and company forever? AWESOME! :|
This story arch should have ended with Diablo 2 and the other story archs should have begun here at D3. I don't see what else we could do besides fight one of them naughty angels, which we'll be doing anyway.
I mean, come on. The dudes soul stone was destroyed. What the hell.
Not too sure which Diablo you are talking about here. But I agree that only the 2nd Diablo should have the hole in his head. He's the only one that had a soul stone plunged in there. Since he needs to take over new bodies in order to materialize in the mortal realm the scar should stay with the body.
What ever happened to that soul stone anyways? Did Tyrael crush it at the Hellforge? I know the hero didn't do it, can't remember the cinematics that well...

Actually, the hero did smash Diablo's soulstone. It was in the cinematic.

I've never thought of Diablo having one true form. His only true form is terror itself, and he is the personification of it. He's more of an essence than a corporeal form.
ok that's borderline poetry right there... you need to chill the eff out.
and while I'm sure there will be a back story to the hole in the head, I'm thinking it's more or less blizz trying to give a sense of legacy to our main man, the hole links him to the previous two games - it enriches his character.
The soul stone that was in Diablo's head is more powerful than any weapon man could make so all the scare diablo got while in battle could vanish but the the soul stone scare is perminent.

Well the guy's signature got removed I guess.
It was Diablo from the cinematic, a short animated gif of it.
