I'm sorry if I helped to derail your thread someone brought up a question in my mind and I tried to get a rational answer out of the PK crowd. You'd think I'd learn. Anyway...
I've been thinking about the progression from D1 to D2. In D1 it was free for all no warning. With D2 you at least got a warning and some info. It seems like for 3 they already are talking about limiting it more. I think mutual sounds as good a step as any.

As long as there is open PK and hardcore.. some lamers will try to do whatever they can to cheat kill people. if that is removed a lot of the hacks will be gone since they are not needed anymore.
I've never had troubles with normal pk's but cheaters always create a great threat which you can see in todays d2 hardcore where public games are gone.
-balanced servers try to make players as equal as possible. lower levels have higher skill dmg. they just are deprived of high level effects of skills. lower level players would have higher mana corresponding to whoever their opponent is. In teams, only the total level of the team is considered in the ratio. hp is the same for every player. it is set high to prolong the battle a bit for fairness reasons.
HM why not just have certain level range for servers. If you are 10-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 you would meet players at those level ranges to pvp with. You would automaticly join to servers with that level range.
Hp to same level? whatabout different classes.. barbarian should surely have more hp than a caster.

people can set 10-19 lvl or whatever in their room rules. as well as in the title to target those players in the lobby list. you can sort out these specification from the list. like have lowest level to heighest lvl players and rooms.
in balance servers hp are the same because skills are balanced.
It would be fantastic if we could have PvP in Hardcore in open games.
It would be the ultimate test. Sure, it would be all level 99 characters. But it would give a person ultimate bragging rights at being the best of the best.
But to do this requires a lot of changes. What idiot would venture into a PvP hardcore open game when they just know that other players are cheats?
Suggestion #1: Allow a person to host a game designated as PvP. No need to go hostile. Everyone is automatically hostile. Potential players see a special icon in the game list.
Suggestion #2: Don't allow parties to be formed in these games.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
A game with that many classes has no such potential. To create strategic gameplay you need to give each class a CHOICE of options, which are useful at different times. And if you have 7 classes to fill up with skills that's a pretty narrow possibility.

Hey i love pvp and i wish they don't water it down too much. I have played d2 for years on bnet and maybe only about 5 times I have been killed by a high lvl when i have been a very low lvl. And i dont care too much about it. Seriously its not like all pvpers do this, its only a small minority that kill low lvls and why should they ruin pvp for the rest of us.
However despite saying that I have a solution to this for the people that seem to find this such a major problem. What we can do is keep the 1 person hostle function unless the person is just say 10 -15 lvls below you, then in which case both partys must agree to the hostle. So all players around your lvl and higher you can hostle without them agreeing and then all ppl below you must agree before you hostle them.
I never PK'd in Diablo 2, but it was really fun (for me, I know nobody else is like this:confused:) when a high level joined and hostiled me and the party. I would always wait for them to get close before townportaling out. Even better, when people in the party got into a fight and starting dueling each other right then and there.
All the problems Jay talked about would be instantly solved, while keeping the PvP crowd happy, by adding a PvP toggler at game creation. Simple as that, yeah?

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.
Diablo community manager "Bashiok" continues to make the rounds on the official Diablo III forums. His responses...
On the PvP system being changed:
When/Why would you choose to enable PvP in your game if it was an option? Would it be before you were max or near-max level, or twinked?
If not then you're essentially looking for a dueling game, and wouldn't a dedicated PvP focus provide a more logical option than a blanket PvP-on/PvP-off option which no one would enable until they were powerful enough to defend themselves?
That's a good point. As I don't compromise my PvE builds in order to satisfy the potential of a PvP encounter, it is fair to say that I would NEVER hit the "enable"/"accept" button for PvP if I was in a PvE game. Duh.
Plus everyone knows that people only start/enter PvP games with tweaked (suspiciously so) gear as they just know they will win.
But was that a hint of a dedicated PvP type game. From the get go? That would be nice. Plus it frees up the PvE games from griefers/PKers hopefully. So everyone is happy... except those who like playing the school yard bully
If I walk into a game specifically designated as PvP and I get killed and complain then I'm just a sore loser.

If you twink your character you're also making him/her good against creeps, meaning you're not necessarily looking for a duel at all. If you carry mace spray, are you looking to get mugged? I never PK'd, and I'm gonna miss random PvP in games. I really know what John Schaffer (from the D1&2 team) meant about not being able to change the PvP system. It's just a part of Diablo.
And as I also said, I know not many people besides the PKers will agree with me.:(

I'm hoping that it becomes more involved like the pve battles we saw. Generally, pots weren't a pvp issue, but everything seems to be a 1hit kill or a 2 hit kill with crazy poison damage.
I hope they keep such an array of specs though, especially things like auradins being a spec developed from gear.

"The gaming public now has focus on Diablo again, and with it comes the modern-age of trolling and jackassery."
the pvp system will be like the old ones.. and you will stil be able to hook up to a network at home... theres pkers in every game... they wont put like wow then people will stop playing it.. they trying to kee it simple since its not a mmorpg
Would separating out the PvE and PvP people work or kill the game? I'm thinking along the lines of WoW choices but able to change freely between these dedicated game modes.
My own opinion is that with this I would probably play PvE most of the time and only go over to PvP sometimes to test my character or if invited by a friend.
If there were certain securities to protect my gold and the rewards for winning were better than lousy ear graphics filling up my stash then I'd go to PvP more often too and might even make that my main choice.
And the idea of a PvP arena without monsters as opposed to a PvP arena still loaded with monsters... not sure where I stand on that. I reckon dedicated PvPers would not like arenas with no monsters as it kind of guts Diablo and makes it a fairly meaningless game for dedicated PvPers.

Level brackets? If you can hostile players 5 levels more or less than yours would be fair enough so you can't be one hit killed by retards.. Never happened to me though.. I always loved the rush when some kid hostiles you then you get to beat the crap out of him..
5 to 10 level differential might be ideal for pvp enabling..
Too bad if they completely scrap the PK system. Some of us loves to be hunted.
Or is it just me?

thats how it use to be but d3 has potential to actually have strategic gameplay instead of skill spamming.

That gets old after so many times. So dumb when a high lvl basement dweller comes in your game just to hostile a low lvl.
