Anyone who is that gung ho about some pixelated titties in a game needs to get a life. It's not important.
I'm not gung ho about the boobs you twit, it's apart of the demonic feeling, the sexual bizzareness is what made Europeans fear demons so much, it gave the Catholic Church an unchallenged point of control until the Reformation. It's as apart of the demonic theme as warped appearences and the Devil.
The Goat man being associated with the Devil? Is a symbol of sexual perversion, it's an integral point to the whole style, it would potentially lead to a large gap in the games feeling. The whole point with demons is immorality, it's one of the more important pieces of the fear of hell.
What's so immoral about nudity? Diablo monsters do not have deformed genitals, or genitals in weird places. Most of the stuff they have can be as easily found in real life...
Diablo still doesn't look cartoony to me, and people who think it does need to check out some older games...
I'm only saying that because it wasn't capable of being photo realistic like current games. It was as realistic as it could have been but they didn't have the color depth we have now.

Oh, so non-photo realistic = cartoony? I totally disagree with that. If a game looks and behaves at least somewhat like our world, it's realistic as far as I am concerned. In any case, I don't just want to see a copy of our world in a game. I want to see the design of the developers. I want the game to feel somewhat ethereal, like a faraway land, and old graphics often helped with that, actually, especially considering that most devs lack the imagination to design those assault rifles differently.
Diablo I looks much more realistic to WCIII to me, simply because it's not 3D. WCIII is all blocky due to low poly and I don't see how that is realistic...

like current games.
Current games are just as realistic as old games. In other words, not realistic. They are certainly far from photo realistic. Back when DI came out, it looked very realistic to everyone, too.

And we don't have the color depth of the games 20 years from now. Or shaders, or lighting, or whatever else. Your point?

It's about stylizing to a society of fear mongering christians that were sado-masochists in regards to nudity and Civility. They were self hating, terrorized people that saw anything except the norm as bad.
That's at least how I remember it back when I was in my European History class
I don't think any of the D2 monsters show nudity... penis: could be a spike from the tail (but still, I like), Andy isn't nude neither is that blunderbore (but clamps are a nice touch at least) that other monster that spawns little sluggy thingies looks female with droopy breasts - that's the closest to nudity and I suppose it does count

I'll add to that that it's also about fighting censorship. They've designed a game where you character can get ripped in half and eaten by a gigantic demon, and they probably never gave it a second thought, but they probably had to put a lot of thought into nudity.
Why is the Succubus, the most sexual demon (along with the Incubus) topless in D1 but has a bra on in D2? Same with Andy, she's technically not nude.
Because sadly, more Concerned Citizens(tm) will be worried about a little nipple than any of the violence (not that there's anything wrong with that), and game developpers like Blizzard will cower in fear and self-censor. Either that or I'm being more paranoid than usual.
But if they are going to show nudity, enough with the unrealistically huge tits already, it's been done to death.
And why not do something really innovative and show full nudity on both genders while they're at it... it's M rated right? Oh wait was it a T? crap...
If it's a Teen rating we won't see any real nudity at all

Yep... unfortunately this is the case, It's the same sort of people that get angry when their kids are taught sex ed at school or get angry because the school nurse gives out condoms when people ask... It's funny how backwards we have gotten since the 60-70's sexual revolution... It's still a largely tabu topic and most family's aren't willing to accept it for what it is... a completely natural, evolutionary, and NECESSARY thing...
Sigh at middle class white suburbia... just to stereotype.

I completely agree! Its such a fascinating topic. I mean, violence, sure, everyone fears being hurt. But when the sexuality factor plays into it, it gets a lot more complicated.
If I ever make something with demons, I'm gonna try and play on that sexuality factor. And I hope Blizzard will, too.
We already know it will have a M rating. So why wouldn't they "push it to the limit" ? I'm not talking full on nudity but some nice titehs for the succubus would be a deserving touch. We did see a press release that said there was inspiration from God of War...
I could never figure why the female breast was so taboo in our society. Its all about equality right? So why can men go around shirtless while women cannot? Seems a lil sexist to me.
Some sexuality there and then is good. Makes the demons more..... less stereotyped. In most games, the male demons we see are all big and red and intimadating, whiles the females are usually more "sexy" and has minimal clothes covering their body. However, when you start having to fight female demons without clothes covering their sweet spots, that gives you a different feeling when you start hacking N slashing.
I imagine just like D2 had some D3 will have some. It may be a new development team but they sure haven't laid off the gore and said they wanted to keep it a Mature rated game.
You would have gone back and looked anyway, so I thought I'd save you the trouble.

Btw, I made this thread a while ago about this: http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6289&highlight=demons+genitals
We had some pretty interesting discussions.
