Mobs in D2 dungeons pretty much waits for you to get in range b4 doing anything. Thought it'd b cool for occasional mobs to actively search&hunt you down. Imagine u just almost handling a group of moonlords then a pack of saber cats rush in from nowhere~or aft a wave u relaxed & picking up loot and suddenly a skeleton army opens closed door behind u: it'd make mobs feel more intelligent, add intensity by keeping u on ur toes whole time, and more dynamic gameplay
Next, something thats often done in hack&slash games. Have miniboss chasing you thru dungeon, u gotta run&kill mobs blocking ur way fast. If it catches up, a short fight ensues until u cripple it, then u gotta run again. And vice versa: you fight belial, reduce his hp to 50%, he escapes by charging right through walls (D3's environment interaction is there 4 a reason!XD) n u gotta give chase while mobs block ur way, until u finally corner him. This could make a dungeon run into one extended boss fight, and imo more variety than plain vanilla rushing: find boss, hack until die, the end.
(side quest: 'Kill a special pack of vampires'. in dungeon when u defeat them they 'die' for 5min b4 coming to find u, over&over again. u gotta find special room and they only really die if u kill them there - celing collapse to let in sun, holy water pours in, floor crumbles, nd environment interaction to make trap, etc)

cool ideas but i don't think they will be implemented because its too taxing on peoples systems. it would be more work for blizzard and require higher system spec from users.
I love this idea, I think it would be part of a logical step for D3 to take. Right now they already most enemies ambushing you which is really cool, but this would add even more to it.
Still I think it should only be reserved to a couple of enemies and made more like a random event, like let's say you have a quest where you have to hunt down some important demon and he's always randomly summoning demon next to you, now that really sound epic. Also that way it shouldn't be too hard on the specs.
would like, but wont count on. The behaviors of mobs in wow (not including some bosses) are overly simplistic compared to other titles in the industry, including games that predated wow. It be nice, but im not holding my breath

Why would it require higher system specs? Adding some AI to special creatures would not strain the game anymore than the monsters do right now. >_>
i like the idea, i dont think it will be to taxing on a computer all it is is a path script of telling the npc to move? so it could work idk good question/idea to ask blizzard.

i see a lot of people bashing my comment saying AI wouldn't raise system specs. Believe it or not, AI takes a lot of coding to implement. So much so that newer games with highly intelligent AI dedicate a whole thread of CPU processing to AI alone. Not saying that would happen with diablo, but it would definitively raise the CPU specs.

Raise system spec?? Haha neva thought this'd b an issue~you dont need mobs with 'tracking' AI etc, jus need to make it LOOK as if its hunting you! XD
e.g. mobs ambush u while u looting
a) check if theres been no mobs around hero for 10 sec
Spawn Mob in Adjacent Room, open door in between
c) path mob into hero's room...
surely that's plausible? and with that special vampire pack i mentioned, just spawn them close to hero every 5min, etc. no xtra AI required, none! there's always a cheap&easy solution! XD

Ok, so let's say you decide to run through a level without killing any enemies and you go into town, the enemies ambush and attack you while you are resting/stocking up on weapons/being afk?
mobs dont attack in town. The script would have a boolean comparison requiring you to be outside of town. Dont split hairs with petty responses.
Piseas response is very doable and wouldnt be hard to program assuming not every mob in the game did this. Although it would be nice if every mob in the game had a bit more behavioral variety than they did in diablo 2 and than wow.
Stalking bosses sounds a little extreme... I mean, just imagine if you were fighting near the bosses area against an army and the boss decides to "stalk" you. I'm pretty sure you'd be screwed. Though the idea of surprise attacks are nice. Just don't flood people with never ending waves.
I reckon it would be funny if they stalked you while you were stalking them. it would be an in game catch 22 lol
but how would they know your comming ny way? there would need to be some sort of catch. like if your attacking a large group of moon clan lol and then 1 of them runs away to inform the boss. i could understand the stalking.
Haha nice to c all these diff opinions ~ could be funny tracking a boss's footprints...only to have him burst thru a sidewall out of nowhere n run u down! XD i'd seriously shite myself...

Mobs in D2 did stalk you, they just had to know you were there. But I know what you mean, like at fist they act like they did in D2 but as you progress into the dungeon monsters become more aware of your presence, and actively patrol the dungeon in search of you. Maybe sound will play a part in alerting monsters of your presence, so if you are a barb it will be almost impossible to go unnoticed because of all the ARRRGs and YARRs and thundering attacks, but as a stealthy character like an assassin, the monsters wont catch on to you as fast.

First off, as you said, this is Diablo. The AI would not be incredibly complicated. Second, I am a software developer, so I know for fact that implementing this would not push the system requirements higher. It would be an insignificant shift.

Stalking bosses don't sound too bad I guess, but the vampire thing... ehhhh.
I like using the environment to kill them but having them spawn constantly if I can't find how to kill them sounds annoying.
If maybe you could break a fountain full of water, or a boarded up window, in the room they're in to cause EXTRA damage that'd be cool.
We are accomplices.
