Yeah, I did. What you basically said was Paladins are a defensive class and thus they are allowed to wear big clunky pauldrons. Barbarians on the other hand are not allowed because you said so.
The Necro looks nothing else than kickass
Not to mention that hes a caster.
Also the arms are fairly enaugh movable, when you think thet hes a caster.
...
ones of the Paladin... would hinder head movement
...
Paladin is a defensive class which doesnt jump around
Basically, a caster is allowed to weak bulky pauldrons because it would make him look "kickass." Paladins are allowed because they are defensive. You give nothing else other than personal subjections on why you think Barbarians are not allowed to wear large pauldrons.
Did I miss anything? I don't think so. Everything else in your post is padded with useless information, unless of course you've worn those armours in reality, then by all means I'll take your words with the highest regards.
Why the hell does everyone want realistic/ historically accurate armor in D3? Have you even seen the concept art of the barbarian? It's 100% BADASS. That being said, the armor we see in the trailer looks very close to the armor represented in the concept art, big shoulder pads and all. If you can tell me, truthfully, that the armor in the concept art for the barbarian looks lame then you need to get your head out of you ass, because artisticly, and conceptualy it looks awesome, nuff said.
Armor in D3 does not need to be:
A. Realistic
B. Historically accurate
C. Bound to the physical constraints of reality
D. allow for a wider range of motion... because its a fucking video-game.
E. Appeal to your limited scope of how armor or anything for that matter should look.
Armor on the barbarian in D3 should be:
A. Intimidating
B. completely badass looking
C. exaggerated, and visually interesting.
D. comprised of bones, skulls, iron spikes, leather, steel, and horns... because Barbarians are supposed to horrify their enemies, and look more badass than the demons/monsters they are slaughtering.
Dimebog, decide if you are talking about Mephisto in D2 or real-life. What you say there is really ridiculous and irrevelant with the actual discussion.
I wasn't talking to you. And pardon me if I try to make an innocent joke once in a while other than constant whining, moaning and mouth-foaming. Is that what you want this site to come down to.
If you wanted to say something relevant, you would have quoted my on-topic post and replied to that.
All the pauldrons in D2 could be designed in real-life and they would really look like that.
1. That is your opinion. It's obviously debatable. D2's graphics were 2-D and it's harder to tell really what's going on with the shoulder designs. It's guess work.
2. Secondly, it doesn't make Diablo 2 more immersive than D3. Most people, Kenzai, don't see the shoulders and get taken out of the game or are suddenly placed more into the game because the shoulders on the 2-D sprites seem to "fucntion" in reality.
3. You're ignoring that Blizzard is creating their own reality in Diablo. That's what counts. They can give shoulder pads a strong intimidating look if they want in their reality. It doesn't take the gamer out of the game.
4. You simply don't like change and you are rationalizing why things need to stay the same as D2 when we've changed D3 over into 3D.
5. WoW is a contemporary fantasy game. It is not the root of big shoulder pads, but it instead gives big shoulder pads to it's characters as derived from other fantasies before it. So leave WoW out of your arguments. WoW is not the issue.
Thats basically the same as WoW. You summed up what WoW has.
Look at D2 armor and tell me what you think.
You probably thought that shoulder pads have to be either giant like shit and ridiculously exaggeratedly decorated like in WoW or totally the same as real-life.
Man, take a look at the concept art of the barbarian, and tell me how much like WoW that looks. Take a look at the barbarian model and tell me that looks like a WoW model. It's not the same as WoW. I'm not describing WoW armor, I'm describing an overall aesthetic choice, that doesn't have anything to do with WoW.
Having exaggerated features on armor /= WoW. Just because in WoW every class has enormous should pads does not mean this is the case in D3. So far the only class with big, bulky armor that we've seen has been the Barbarian, which makes sense aesthetically for that character. So no I don't think the shoulder pads or any of the armor needs to be exaggerated, or decorated like in WoW, but I do agree that armor should reflect the character that's wearing it, and in this case the armor in D3 that we've seen so far on the barbarian is a good match for that character.
Honestly, from what I've seen so far in the concept art for D3, I can pretty safely assume that the armor designs are going to blow away anything that was in Diablo2.
I actually love the concept art of the Barbarian, but it never made it to the gameplay. In the concept art his armor was black metal, fearsome, gothic. In the gameplay, his armor looks goofy, silly, trying too hard, red and grey and green, and much more over sized. I hate that the helmet has no horns in the inventory, and huge horns on screen. Ugh, the shoulder pads on the female Barbarian are disgusting. Bashiok even said he thought that the shoulder pads could be sized down.
Think of Ring Wraiths in LotR vs the armored trolls. The trolls in RotK had "stylized" armor that was oversized, huge weapons, large body armor, the whole ten yards. The Wraiths didn't have any of that, yet I don't think you will find a person who thinks the trolls are scarier or more fearsome than the Wraiths.
What looks "Badass" to you looks udderly ridiculous to me, not terrifying. It's in the eye of the beholder, not "You're wrong, I'm right."

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.
Nope, look at the character selection screen. And for the barb theres this 3D model with a heavy armor model, same as in-game.
Nope. Both games have large shoulder armor. Both games have fantasy armor in them that wouldn't work in reality. A giant bone spike coming off the Necro's shoulders is not a more immersive armor type. You're misusing terms in order to have an argument.
The pauldrons really arent realistic AT ALL. You see the armor parts floating through each other when the barb swings his weapon.
They look fine to me. A hulking barbarian in powerful looking armor. Sounds right to me from a FANTASY standpoint. Reality? You play games for reality suddenly?
I pointed it out SPECIALLY that i DO NOT want the same as in D2.
Then stop using D2 as a reference for ALL of your arguements.
The general idea was good. Kickass/cool/intimidating/... shoulder pads which are still "immersive" or however you want to call it.
Stop misusing terms. Immersion in gaming is not necessarily rooted in REALITY.
"WoWishness" gets an issue if its seen too much in D3.
Just leave WoW out of it. It's never been a good example as it doesn't look like Diablo 3. Diablo 3 is much more beautiful and detailed looking and it's characters look amazing.
Alright let me get this straight, The shoulder pads that we see in the gameplay trailer when the barbarian is talking to Cain are pretty much exactly what we see in the concept art section of the barbarian in terms of size, color, and visual appearance. Of course the model is not going to look exactly like the concept art, simply because one is a 2D drawing and the other is low poly 3D model, but they are very similar.
I can only assume that the horned girdle also started life as a concept drawing, and then was modeled and textured based on that concept. The idea is to stay as close to the approved concept as possible. This is how all asset creation works in the game industry. You have a kickass concept and then you do your best to translate that to the game, which I think they have done a good job doing for the most part.
Of course it would be nice to see some shaders for the different materials found on the armor, this would definitely add a tangible quality to the armor, and make the textures look less painterly. However it would also raise the min system requirements for the game. I'm sure Blizzard is mulling this decision as they are developing the game, and there's probably a strong possibility that these kinds of materials, and effects will be in the game on release.
So apparently you don't like the in game models but like the concept art which are primarily the same thing, or as close as your going to get in D3. The idea here is to make the assets that are being created as close as possible to the concept art, obviously there are technological limitations to doing this, but it is always the goal of the finished project to fully realize, visually, a world as it is imagined and conceptualized by the artists.

Sorry for the crappiness of the picture I just copied it from youtube real quick.
ok i dont like the huge shoulderpads... but in d2 when u put like archon plate on his pauldrons are large but its still not as large and homo as d3... im just wondering what other chars will have for gear first to make my decision.

In real life, I would choose useless but big, badass and intimidating armour over something that is more comfortable and protective. Seriously.

Didn't they have that spell? I think it was called 'Pindlebot'.

Homosexuals are associated with large shoulder pads?
Besides I doubt other classes will have near as big shoulder pads as the barbarian. I mean look at the Witch Doctor.
It won't be like WoW where EVERY class has ginormous shoulder pads.
