Could you imagine if we looked at all forms of story telling with such an eye of scrutiny? The barbarian's shoulder pads are too big?
It's like Frank Miller said :
"People are attempting to bring a superficial reality to superheroes which is rather stupid. They work best as the flamboyant fantasies they are. I mean, these are characters that are broad and big. I don't need to see sweat patches under Superman's arms. I want to see him fly."
Who gives a shit if the barbarian can't itch themselves realistically while wearing huge fantasy armor. There isn't a fucking itch button in D3. There's a KILL button and that's all we need. That's the game. That's the fantasy of it all. Either suspend your disbelief and enjoy it or go play some bore of a game where they spent hours on end arguing about how realistic everything needed to be to the point to where their game turned into a cess pool of suckage.

Frank Miller is a wise man, and I can't wait for Sin City 2 >_<!!!
But you do have to admit that if the Barbarian could get up out of nowhere and just start flying than it would be really hard to not go... WTF? There are some things that we expect because of the way the game world has been set up in the past. I wouldn't mind for shoulderpads to be a bit smaller, but overall I do not care.
So you say normal, real-life shoulder pads which are carefully designed over years with lots of experience are worse than some pauldrons made up for a pc game?
Medieval armor and weaponry was always produced for full performance, with the highest technology and best design they had in that time.
You cant even compare a highly fictional video game to that.
No I'm not saying the D3 ones are better. I'm saying they restrict arm movement less.
The real ones are better because they provide a lot more defense and don't have big openings in which to stab someone like the D3 ones.
The Diablo barbarian has never struck me as a warrior whose primary focus was on defense though.
you people complain to much. if you guys are whinning about the shoulder pads being to big why don't you start complaining about first person shooters like CoD where it takes more than one shot to kill you yet you can kill an enemy with one shot.
It's a game things are not suspose to be like real life. thats why its called fantasy. No game in history is exactly like real life.

My life is like a dragon, first praised, then hated, now lost.

I know its not actually fishnet, however this armor still looks exaggerated to me. BTW yes this is the model used in game I believe, the only difference is that at the 800x600 resolution, and because of it's sprite based nature the details become hard to read in game.
My point is simple though. The little armor we have seen in the D3 trailer looks no less ridiculous than this armor, and quite frankly I happen to like horned skulls, big badass spikes, and steel clawed fur covered boots on my barbarian.
Why? because It's a made up game in a made up universe where made up monsters that breath fire, and spit lightning live. I want to see huge belts with horns, without some jackass complaining about how impossible it is to wield a sword with any level of dexterity based on the weight and circumference of the horns on barbarians belt.
Have people lost all use of the imagination? Do you guys sit at home, watch the movie Legend and then bitch about how big Tim Curry's horns are? I can just imagine the QQing if Tim Curry's version of the devil was in Diablo 3:
"Tim Curry's horns in that move are completely disproportionate to his body, he wouldn't be able to stand up with horns that large, or move his head side to side quickly." Forget the fact that he is a dark lord with untold power, what's important here people is maintaining the illusion of reality in a completely fantastical world.
THats not a gothic armor btw.. if you'd find same kind of picture of gothic armor and take off the helmet it would look pretty much the same as the D3 video trailer.. so basically the gothic armor in d3 seems to be pretty much the same as in d2.
Other thing I noticed was the female barbs shoulders.. yeah they look kinda big seems like they havent scaled them down to smaller at all?
Ah the shoulder pads chestnut again. We've moved on from colour, which is a good thing.
The WoW shoulder pads were the second thing I noticed about WoW when I play tested it. Hated them. The worst was how bright the landscape was. I was hung over at the time and puked all over the keyboard. But that's off-topic. Keyboard is still sticky mind you...
I don't like the shoulder pads but it is an essential part of the Blizzard "look" in its three franchises. So nothing we say here will change things.
It's not just Blizzard who go over the top. Pick any first person shooter. There's always some mega-mother of a gun that even Arnie in his Terminator days would have struggled to lift. And those Heraldic Shields in D2. Heck, you expect a hero to carry that oversized thing around all of Act 3 without having to put it down once? And some of those horned helms were outrageously top heavy in D2.
Blizzard and other publishers are no stranger to fantastical gear which has no place in our real world.
Which makes sense. Sanctuary is a fantasy land so the armaments are also drawn from the fantasy realm. That's what I call getting a real perspective on things.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
Dont know about the material but the design has to be real: Youtube Video - Full Plate Armour Combat
LOL thats kinda funny actually but %100 serious. Look at the shoulders. The placement is somehow like in D2. Also in D2, the spikes were turned away from the head so thats no problem either.
I have no clue what that armor is made of. Metals can be forged lighter now than back in the medieval age.
I know at least the weapons aren't realistic. That guy is swinging that hammer like it's a toy.
The D2 pauldrons of the barb were just as good if your going to talk about charging.
They werent less "offensive" and more "defensive" or anything.
Their opening was the neck and side of the head, kinda like normal pauldrons, and that place cant be protected by something you attach to your shoulder but rather some chain-cover. I think its callet "gorget".
The bigger shoulder pads provide more armor and padding when you charge into something. And they do provide more movement of the arms, even if full plate somehow doesn't limit it much.
Put a pillow on your shoulder and charge into the wall. Now put three pillows on your shoulder and charge into a wall. See what I mean?
Yes gorget is the word. At least that's what they were in UO.
The shoulder armor is fine...you don't downsize armor for a class who's archetype is supposed to be that of a close-ranged killing machine.
You also don't wear decorative armor (which it clearly is, being so large) in close combat, especially when it restricts movement. Bigger is not always better (shouldn't you have learned this by now?)

It may still be fun, but it will be World of Diablo.
Whoever says that D3 must have a precise replica of medieval armour and why? Why would it, ever?
Besides, I'd rather have a less-functional, but big and intimidating armour, than present myself as some feeble coward in a tiny armour that is meant to merely protect my flesh. I am in favour of 'over-sized' armour pieces as seen in D2. No one seems to mind those eh?

Oh you're absolutely right the game should be more realistic. In that case I don't think there should be any zombies, demons, skeletons, or other fictional enemies, especially since you don't fight them in real life (shouldn't you have learned that by now?)

But when the design in armor hinted realism in the previous games, why shouldn't it now? Its the change in design we're complaining about, and how they have no reason to change it. If the zombies in the game suddenly started wearing glasses and carrying around briefcases, i'd complain about that too, because its not realistic to the games original design.

Armor in the previous games was pretty oversized and unrealistic.

Alright, maybe it wasn't as realistic as one would fondly remember, but my point still remains valid; which is the fact that the design of the shoulder pads was changed drastically from the previous games. This was completely unneeded.

Judging from a total of one sets we have seen, you must be right.

*Evil smile.*
Anyway, yea, Diablo 3 shoulders are more offensive, historical shoulders are more defensive. Both have pro's and both have con's.
(If it was me, I'd just wear chain mail...)
only if they have jugg on.

QTF, just don't put them on Tyrael (like on the Blizzcon banner lol) or a Assassin/Rogue/Ninja like class. It makes them look fat.
