Well, as one of the most hardcore Diablo players ever, knowing practically everything, and playing the game for over 8 years, I would like to share my take on most things that I've read about, or encountered in the passed few weeks. If you want to know a hardcore player's POV, a player who isn't blinded by nostalgia or bias, then read on. If you're looking for Blizzard bashing and calling them incompetent careless idiots, then read no further.
I: Health Globes:
Who can forget the potions? No one, I reckon. They were just great, minor, greater, super, rejuvenation, full rejuvenation, they were just awesome when you go bashing through hordes of enemies, and the gradual recovery of health/mana, made for a harder gameplay at times. The way I see health globes, is a more advance thing, but doesn't suit the Diablo world much. Diablo is set a long while ago, everything isn't "new", you have no guns or advance gadgets in the game. Globes seems out of place, whereas potions just add a little something more to the epicness of the game, if you know what I mean. Globes can make the game easy, but maybe too easy ? I don't know really, we will just have to wait and see, but integrating potions, and an occasional globe drop would be far more satisfactory, if you ask me, I wonder how many type of globes we will get, by the way.
II: Music:
Music is a very very integral part of Diablo. Who can forget the bone chilling music of Tristram, or the exciting music of the Harem? They all add that nostalgic feel to games, they all add to the greatness of the gameplay, they all add to the fun of the game, and they all help create a well rounded magnificent title not bound by a single good thing or trait, but with multiple. They shouldn't just stick with one music type either, the music that plays at the beginning of the gameplay video is just great, but gets bland and boring after a little while. Diversity in tracks is a must, and adds more value to the end product. I just know that the guys working know this, and if they can get us anything remotely similar to the music of the previous titles, it would just be grand.
III: The With Doctor/Necromancer Issue:
Well, I know the Necromancer is a great character. I didn't play with the Necromancer, but I know how awesome a character he is. Not to undermine all the Necro players, I played the Barbarian and the Assassin, and I disliked the fact that they kept the Barbarian. The reason to why I say that is because I'm not buying a tweaked version of Diablo 2, I'm buying an entirely new game, that can offer the same "experience" that the previous titles have put forth, but not the same everything, because I could just get back to play Lord of Destruction and bore myself to death with it. The With Doctor seems to be pretty dang awesome. He can be absolutely formidable in parties. You'd get the Barbarian bashing everyone, with support from him, and God knows which other characters. The Necromancer was awesome at that as well with his useful spells, but come on, we need something new, something completely different, and that's portrayed in the Witch Doctor. Don't be afraid of change, embrace it, maybe you will like what's put forth more than what you wanted. I think we're all just stuck in a pit called nostalgia, and just want a revamped Diablo 2. That's impossible my friend.
IV: Items:
I won't lie, but I absolutely hate the single slot option. Where an axe would take up the same space as a ring would, that's just absurd. I hope they aren't going to do that, I could get that playing WoW. Diablo 2 had over 5000 items if I'm not mistaken? Set, unique, rare....etc. I can only hope they add those great factors to Diablo III, in their own unique way. They had rune words and socketing in the old one, and it would be great if something in that gist would make a comeback. I also wish that vendors would have more valuable items available for direct purchase, because I thought they were pretty much useless bar potions, scrolls, and repair.
V: Graphics/Art Direction/Light Radius...etc:
Look, I didn't know which I liked more; the PSP'd versions of some screenshots, or the actual things. I have come to the conclusion that what Blizzard are working on is the more reasonable, and better approach. Darkness isn't your friend, and doesn't enable you to see everything. On the other hand, everything being too bright takes away from the game. Just like if I wanted a dark gray game I can get GoW or whatever, I can get Barbie and WoW if I wanted a really bright game. In my opinion, I would go with what Blizzard is heading towards, but the lighting should be dimmer. Who said it can't be darker, but WITH the colors? Instead of putting it in day time for example, keep it at night. Colors don't go away at night (mind you, this is a mere example, I don't mean keep the game at night, and skip daytime). More color, less lighting, where the light radius would just put more emphasis on the coloring and textures. Look at Diablo 2, it's really dark, but the colors ARE STILL THERE. With the advancement of graphics and everything, I would think that it can stay dark, yet stay just as colorful and detailed. I hope that made sense to you guys.
Those are just some major issues I wanted to talk about. I may have forgotten some stuff, but I will add on to it if it comes to mind. Hope that was a good read for you, take care.
Hey... your potions im sorry to say is absurd the idea of egtting an orb of health or mana after killing a monster is harder than using a pot....only cause how do you get to the globe in a mob if they are right nar it...plus theyll drop less often...as seen in gameplay i recall not many dropping anyway i love your idea on graph lighting why cant it be a little bit darker i mean i dont care but id rather see it just a tad bit darker with the color... the items is actually a little bit better becuse in d2 i had too much crap in my inv and stash that i was trying to trade for a good item now id be able to save space.......i dont think music will be a problem i mean knowing blizzard and since ive played both diablos includin LoD SC Sc brood war and Wow and Wow bc and warcraft 3 i know they have fine music and excellent gameplay i have no doubt BEST GAME OF THE YEAR and if they make...BEST EXPANSION OF HE YEAR

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Potions are something players are used to using and having in their RPGs. With the Health Globes kickin' in, it's an entirely new experience for players and I think most people wouldn't like it at first. But as soon as you play with it, I think you'll learn to love it later on.
I don't mind the globes idea, I just feel that it doesn't fit in, but I can see myself growing used to it. It would be great if they used both potions and globes. Potions for emergency, and the globes to restore a little bit of health here and there so that you don't use a LOT of potions.
That's how it's currently working in D3. They said that potion are more for emergency heals. If you look at the gameplay trailer, you can see potion dropping.
First I want to thank you for a level headed post rather then the flame ridden posts of some who don't like some things about what we've seen.
Globes seem weird to me. I feel like they will either be the best or the worst thing for Diablo. I don't see a middle ground. I think when the game comes out we'll all either love em or hate em.

They can replace the blue with gray tints, but they said that wasn't possible. If they were to do that, it would be great, with the light radius turning the gray tint into color, y'know?
I think rejuvs fucked diablo 2 in the ass. No challenge. Sure health and mana pots were fine, but why should I have to stop every 2 seconds to pop a pot in the middle of WWing a giant horde? Its maddening.
They can replace the blue with gray tints, but they said that wasn't possible. If they were to do that, it would be great, with the light radius turning the gray tint into color, y'know?
Nah, they aren't bringing back light radius, and honestly that's not a bad thing. I like how it feels more open and eerie when you can see further back and see your enemies, and the large explorable dungeon in the background. But I do agree with changing the ambient color from green to a more yellow or red color.
And well, I think you said something about keeping it dark outside constantly? Why? doesn't do anything, and D2 was already constantly dark (cept for act2, of coarse) and now the sun is shining again... in some places. I'm not saying to create a day time bright and sunny for everything, but when you're outside in the wilderness around the natural wildlife, it tends to get a little bright at times. But you also get to slaughter demons. Although, I would enjoy more darkness at night time, and when it's cloudy/raining to add extra variety to the gameplay and art.
Drinking 10 potions in a row while fighting demons is silly, I'm just happy they didn't make any animation for this in D1 and D2 (imagine drinking and attacking with both hands at the same time lol). The Health globes won't make the game too easy if they are balanced. They only encourage you into killing more monsters even if you're wounded instead of going back to town to buy more pots. My only problem with them is the lore behind them, but then again we probably just ought to wait a little more.
II: Music:
If I didn't know Matt Uelmen wasn't the composer I would have never guessed it. Except for that track in the gameplay trailer all the others recreates the atmosphere from the previous games in a somewhat new way (particularly New Tristram and Tristram Cathedral).
III: The With Doctor/Necromancer Issue:
I'm okay with the whole thing, personally I would prefer it if Necros were NPCs and a class like the Reaper replaced the Necro. As for the Barb, he is a totally different now with all sort of new skills, so beside the name and the lore he isn't really a returning class.
IV: Items:
I'm not touching this until I see more of the game though so far it just looks like a logical step forward.
V: Graphics/Art Direction/Light Radius...etc:
Look I was one of those guys that before the game was announced were affraid the game would look too cartoony and after watching the gameplay trailer many times I can simply that I LOVE it. It's not perfect but if there's going to be a Diablo game in 3d I think it's how it should look like. Really Tristram Cathedral is just as dark as it is awesome.
The photoshopped pictures don't change the feeling of the game at all. They're just well modified pictures and nothing more. They are no example as for what the game should look like though I don't mean by this they shouldn't put more darkness in the game (as long as it still looks good that is).
Finally as for the light radius, I'll wait to see a more compact dungeon (with narrow corridors like we're used to) before gauging this.

THIS, this is where you and I differ. Lorewise and Gameplay wise the Necromancer outdates the Witch Docter by far. Trade in the Barbarian for another warrior class and swith the Witch Docter with the Necromancer IMO.
Gameplay: Witch Docter uses disease and summons unholy creatures to do his bidding. Specializes in crowd control and dps from afar. The Necromancer uses poisen and of course necromancy to do his bidding. Specializes in summons and pure dps, crowd control at a minimun (Bone Wall Bone Prison). The only promising thing about the Witch Docter is the Zombie Wall by far, a revamped Necromancer could have more of a promising effect in D3.
Lorewise: Witch Docter, an unmutated goatman that uses disease. Necromancer, a being who uses Necromancy to tip the scales between Order and Chaos to remain prefectly balanced. I don't know about you, but I rather have a World Balance Guardian than a disease-freak unmutated goatman.

Necromancer was a lame class.
Wish they had never brought back the barb and just stuck to entirely new classes. The witch docter looks a hell of a lot more fun to play than poison nova spamming.

Ugh, I was talking about the potential the Necromancer has over the Witch Docter. We all saw how much the Barbarian was revamped, and IMO the Necromancer was far more flexible in skill than the Barbarian ever was.
If they has a revamped Necromancer over the With Docter, the Necromancer will probally win by far.

As for the 'sticking to new classes' issure, blame Blizzard for kicking out Blizzard North in the first place -_-"

Trust me, I already do.
I just never could get behind the necromancer class, as far as Diablo was concerned. In other games it tends to be my first pick.
I'll admit my opinion is highly biased.

You then go on to say how it needs similar music and items as was in D2?
Make up your mind, do you want a re-done D2, or an entirely new game?
Fuck you, I'm a dragon.
And well, I think you said something about keeping it dark outside constantly? Over confidence is the rot.
The Barbarian just feels out of place, and the reason they brought him in is flimsy at best.
If he's so integral to the story, what does that mean for the rest of the characters? Do they just get shitkicked out of the barb's spot light?
And when did the barb ever become the central hero of D2, by my play experience the most prolific character in the D2 series was the sorceress.
