I keep reading about the petition with 54,000 people signing against the art direction. But actually how many Diablo fans are there. Can you give me a number (backed up by evidence of some sort). How many people will buy diablo3.

I think I read an article that said over 1million more copies have been sold since the announcement of D3, a lot of that was probably people rebuying the game though.
I recall seeing a big sticker on a box a year or so after LOD was released that said "6 million coppies world wide) I believe that was counting retail and expac as separate sales.

"If we're actually making the game worse with no other reason than to be different from WoW, then it's a bad choice." - Jay Wilson (D3 lead designer)
In the Guinness Book of World Records (I think it was either 2003 or 2004) Diablo 2 is listed as the best selling game or most popular online game or something. So if you are curious as to how many fans there are, I suggest looking up that Guinness Record.
I think there are way, WAY more than 4 million fans of the game... I mean wasn't there a time when htere was like a million people logged onto Bnet at any given point in the day?
Well that idiotic petition of "54,000" does not have 54,000 different individuals, hence why it is a BS petition that is largely ignored by most. Take it with a grain of salt, I have.
Well if Diablo is in the Guinness Book, I vote it gets added as an Olympic sport for 2012
ZOMG THAT WOULD BE PERFECT!!!!! it SHOULD be a sport PKing haha. And for it to be in 2012 would be even more perfect. Considering its an event that all the nations attend, Diablo will hit them all at the core in 2012. Rofl! Diablo is the apocalypse! its all so clear now!

heard the petition was about 66000 (unconfirmed sources )
55,359 signatures, which I find pretty suspicious. This is a really popular fansite and we only have 35,298 total members the vast majority of which are massively inactive. I would imagine more people would of signed up just for the hell of it if 55,000 people are actually signing the petition.
Bots. Tor or email servers. There's more than one way top fool that petition site. I read an article once about it but I'd have to google for it. Perhaps someone knows the one I mean.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
Diablo II was a runaway success for Blizzard. The game has achieved an overall score of 88 on Metacritic. Gamespy awarded the game an 86 out of 100, IGN awarded the game an 8.3 out of 10, and Gamespot awarded the game an 8.5 out of 10 along with earning the 2000 runner-up Reader's Choice Award for role-playing game of the year. It was awarded a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records 2000 edition for being the fastest selling computer game ever sold, with more than 1 million units sold in the first two weeks of availability; according to the 2008 Guinness Gamer's Edition, the title still holds the record.
I'd say it's doing pretty well, and despite a handful of people complaining, It still has a huge loyal following.
