I believe they are thinking 5 players per game or around that number.
Personally, I like the number. I thought 8 made the game a little crowded if you were all together, and with 5 maybe we'll rely a little more on each other during boss runs etc.
how can you have a 2 sided battle with 5 people lol>? 2 vs 3 in pvp? thats a big Hell naw from me.

If you get personally attacked by letters through the internet its a good thing to always have a box of tissues and a band-aid around.
I hope for 10-12 per game, but party cap for 4-6.. You get to see more than the 4 people you like to party with and still the gameplay doesn't get too crowded.
in the interview of the photoshoped pics jay said that you know i mean if your in a party with 7 other people and you have that dark look its going to be hard to see them from the monsters....i.e there will be 7 more pople besides you which means 8 people max ( i dunno where he said it in the interview but i remember him syaying it

#5 – “How It Should Look Like” (Blizzard shots followed by fan-altered shots) Wilson: A lot of this change is adding noise to the screen. If [the characters] weren’t centered on the screen — like find the witch doctor. Especially think about him as a friend [in co-op play]. Standing over there, you can’t even tell the difference between him and the zombie. And that’s another player, and when you can’t tell the player apart from the creature, that’s horrible. You’ve got to think that there’s potentially up to seven other people in addition to yourself, and several dozen monsters. All that noise just translates into unplayable, especially when this starts moving. This texturing was actually very similar to one of our previous art styles. But when you started moving and the whole screen just kind of shimmers, you can’t really tell anything that’s going on.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

But PvP is another story. For it to be really fun and excited you need 8-10 people. The more the merrier I always say when it comes to PvP, which is fairly true when it is only 8 or 10 people.
Based on D2 and other comments they have made, I'm going to say its going to be 7 players +1 which would be yourself which will be 8.

HUH?! Did we forget about a little thing called an Automap? Last time I check pother players names and markers showed up on that thing.
4 or 5 works fine for me. And that seems to be what Blizzard is pushing for.
90% of my gaming experience in d2/LOD was with 4-5 man parties. They only time I had the full 8 was a Trist/Baal run. Which as I alluded to earlier, is not the majority of my gaming experience.
I am fine with a 4 or 5 person limit. I am not playing this game to get a super awesome godly character with the best gears I can get. Not even in the slightest. It's the camaraderie and adventure that I am after. If I almost always play in 4 - 5 man groups limiting the amount of players to 5 is no skin of my nose.
Though I do like the idea of being able to have one of each class in a game. which so far has been possible with each Diablo game, excluding expansions. A five player limit will hinder that is the Diablo 3 expansion adds new characters, and it most assuringly will. But it is possible that the limit could be extended with the expansion.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
It was more fun adventuring with two of your friends rather than Baaling with 8 people.

...the stench of terror drifts on a bitter wind,
The people pray for strength and guidance ..
they should pray for the mercy of a swift death
for I have seen what the darkness hides.

Yeah and that's obviously not the point, how would seeing him on the mini-map actually help you depict a Witch Doctor in a crowd of zombies? It wouldn't, it would only tell you that he's there.
how does that make it fun for the people that want to pvp?
I think there should be a large limit but allow the creator of the game to set the amount cap from large to small to appease the loners that like to play with two people.
I see a big cross on the map, a party member must be close. Oh look, he is the one that looks nothing like the horde of monsters I am fighting, and oh what this?! he cannot be hurt by my attacks. This being must be what the big cross denotes.

Krauser - What if they dont have the technology to do that?
I think 8-12 would be ideal. I like having a few more players, as it allows there to be multiple groups, or even group type pvp. Even if we never ran into each other, I thought it was kinda neat to know there are other people or groups running around killing stuff in the same game im in.

Sorry if it wasn't obvious, I was referring to a PvP environment - not all of us enjoy farming loot 24/7. I also never stated that it would be impossible to find a Witch Doctor in a crowd of undead in the heat of battle, it just wouldn't be easy on the eyes and seeing them on your mini-map wouldn't help jack.

Of course, they have games that can fit over 100 players on your screen, but asking for 16-20 would be out of the question due to technological issues :P, I think 12 sounds pretty ideal actually.
Hmmm its interesting how its kinda 50/50
some people are fine with 4-5, but its probly not going to be just 4-5.
some people are fine with 6-8, this is probable.
some say 8-12, this i think is prolly more than they would conspire to have playing in one game.
Its looking like MAYBE it could still remain "8" people to a game.
Im sure that the host can control the amount, be it 8 or less. (as did Diablo 2)
