I think that the Barbarian we've seen is very good! I don't mind if he uses some magic! I mean, in Diablo 2 he used giant leaps or battle cries to increase his life or defense! Isn't that magic?
My problem isn't with the fact that he's using magic, but the fact that he's suddenly tossing around spells like a sorceress.
I think the attack effects of the Barb makes him look like be has power beyond that of a common melee warrior, which is the intent, and allows him to go toe to toe with demons, undead and such. the graphics don't look that over the top to me either, its not like he's shooting out balls of lightning or anything.
Besides that....

The barbarian from D2 was as boring as shit.

I made one barb, and he wasn't very entertaining.

The D2 barb is by far the dullest, uncreative, most boring class that has been designed, I'm glad that's been fixed.

One of the reasons that I didn't play a Barbarian much in D2 even though I love melee classes, is the skills were all boring.
....they're probably trying to avoid this by making him a little cooler to play.
Was there a time where you used that skill in a life threatning situation?? I only used that skill because of the knockback.
I mostly used it for transportation, my barb had too much vitality, though other classes would have made good use of leap. Well, I played SP, it's a bit harder than MP. If DII was properly balanced and monsters were really dangerous, leap would be a good idea.
Leap-and-attack was there as well, it was just divided from leap. Perhaps leap-and-attack is the extension of leap when you get it to level 5.
I used leap as a traveling skill, like how I use teleport with the Sorcy.

the Warcraft rts series has had 3 renditions developed for it not including expansions and Wow. You may want to bitch about Wow because its popular and cool to hate it, but there are somwhere in 11 million subscriber range for that game. As much as you may never admit, nearly all of the hardcore warcraft fans play wow or have played wow and enjoyed it. The argument is old and annoying. You guys arent the only blizzard gamers out there no matter how much you want to be the majoirty representation. Stop acting like warcraft fans have been ignored.
For the record I do not play wow, and I happen to be a "hardcore" (I hate the term really) Diablo player who loves the new different artstyle, animations, witchdocter..... and so on.
ps I just chose your post to quote because it was the last one there, so Ill use it as a general example.
Its cool to hate WoW? I didn't know that?! Guess that make me part of the incrowd then.
But yeah, I was a hardcore Warcraft fan, but I never bother with WoW also. I was thinking of getting WoW when it first announce....but the more and more I see of it, I decided not to,
People can't take joke,
Admittedly, I would definitely going to get D3 when it come out, despite it not up to what I consider what a Diablo game should be......But I alway want to play a Warcraft version of Diablo, so its all good. (Even though the game take place in Diablo universe! I would love to play a Warcraft game in Diablo style, as Gul'dan!)
Yea, I noticed his fireball attack he used on the zombies. It was right after he used chain lightning on the skeletons in the dungeon!
Yes, because we should clearly take all of our influence for melee attacks from Asia.
I can understand the Barb using his spiritual magic to enhance his attacks, but I didn't expect his spell effects to be quite as vibrant as the Sorceress was in D2.
You clearly need to fix your reading comprehension, as well. A remedial course in middle school English might be necessary, until you understand what a comparison means.

Whats so magical really? He has "spiritual" magic to form a MELEE weapon. He hits the ground to form a shockwave, because fighting classes have never done something like that in the past. There is power around him when he charges...... so what hes charging, hes not throwing out a lightning orb, plenty of games add effects around physical acts. Ah but yes, he has an emphasized slash mark for one of his skills...... thats crossing the line. and ww looks the same........ so much magical force its insane!

And everything I just said went directly over your head. You have placed words in my mouth, and ignored my statement completely.
referring to how you compared d2 sorceress spells to what you saw with the barbarian? Calling for a sort of over emphasis......
Thats exactly what i posted about, i apologize for putting words in your mouth sir, good day to you.
The need to put 'omfg epic efects' on melee attacks is entirely of Asian influence. Melee attacks can look just as good and flashy without adding a colour explosion on hit.
I compared the vibrancy. In D2, apart from a few Assassin attacks, only the Sorceress could effectively fill your screen with ungodly amounts of spell effects, and actually brighten up the game. In D3, this same ability to brighten up the game and toss out spell effects has somehow been given to the Barbarian.
Personally, I'd rather see the Barbarian slit open a neck of a demon rather than hit him with a large glowing hammer.

Its like every other argument, two opinions that will never come to a conclusion. My head simply hurts from people actually thinking that the barbarians skills in the demo we have witnessed are over animated. It just seems like a ridiculous assessment, I have not seen any skill from the barbarian that is so over the top that you would ever connect it with blatant crazy magic use.
The highest animated skill is the shockwave-esque attack (forgot what the name was), and it makes complete sense to look and act the way it does. I guess there is just some sort of separation of logic or thought between what i see when i watch the barbarian and what you see. I have not once thought of crazy flashy skills that would be comparable to sorc spells.
So as i shake my head with issues of comprehension that goes through some of your heads, I will simply walk away at this point....... baffled by the complaining that has taken over these forums. I realize I have started to complain about people bitching as much as they actually bitch, so I am done.
P.S. you were not really bitching but our argument just sort of tipped me over the edge and reminded me of the terribly baseless arguments that exist here for the moment. Sorry for arguing with you.

Over confidence is the rot.

if you ever pvp in d2, you would know how wrong this statement is. A BvC could stun lock anyone.
also, pre enigma, leap was every useful skill
