Aww yeah, green tinted stones are soo much better !!!
Green stones arent better either but:
Watch the trailer again.
*does it hisself*
Its definitely light.
I don't know what to say. lol there is no green light. If you can't understand this simple concept there is no point in you even arguing your point because it's based on wrong information.
Don't know what else to say, sorry
And since when did all rocks and stone have to be grey again? Remember the sand colored rocks in d2? Remember the red rocks that make up the grand canyon.. in real life? Remember the limestone that illuminates green in caves across the world.. in real life?
Drop the green light argument, it's based on false information which is simply you saying "Well, I think it's green light" LOL. Again, look at the screenshot I posted. I don't know how better to explain that the rocks are green, the light is orange (see the torches) lol.
sandman-
I have to take Blizzards word on it that it tried and it didn't work.
Do you have a link to this? I don;t remember them saying they tried to get it that way.... it's simply they didn;t want to because the game is simply better and plays better they way they are taking it. It's not like they are saying "Sorry to you whiney crybabu fans! We wanted it the way you do! But we are not that good at making games just yet!"

But im %99 sure you dont think the current D3 graphs are better.
You're totally... off-center... I think DII graphics suck hard, DI graphics were "OK", TQ graphics are vaguelly close to what I really prefer, and DIII is also "OK". But I don't see how a murky discolored pixelated game like DII looked all that great... >_< Nox looked TONS better.
What the? This is like trying to explain a kid that losing is part of the game.
The game doesn't need to revolve around giving the player maximum efficienty, thats simply retarded beyond belief.
Your argument is soo incredibly flawed, its hard to wrap my brain around it.
Lets apply your "reason" to other games shall we.
FPS: You should always have a minimap where you can see the position of every enemy, "because you can't shoot the bad guys if you don't know that they're there".
RPG: You should instantly know every quest from every questgiver, "because you can't do any quests if you don't know they're there".
RTS: There should never be a fog of war "because you wouldn't built a base if you don't know they're there
Adventure: You should be given all the puzzlepieces from the start, "because you can't start a puzzle if you don't know they're there"
And so on.
Please don't tell me you can't see the retardedness of your arguments.
Oh and please, with such a pilosophy about "gamedesign", never ever ever design a game ever, cause that would be the official decline of good gamedesign.
I think you just straw manned again... :).
I was talking about one game and why we need to be able to see hordes of enemies coming at us. It is a perfectly reasonable explanation. The Barbarian has a move that sends him leaping into the enemies. He needs to be able to see the enemies to more effectively use this move. if he is surrounded by darkness, he won't see the enemies and he won't be able to effectively use his move. None of this applies to an FPS or RTS or puzzle game.
This is a basic thing which you don't seem to understand - it's called making sure that the game play you've developed works with the levels you've created.
I think you should know BG. What do you think about BG2 graphics?
I didn't play BG1, but BG2 graphics are really nice. They do not really fit a game like Diablo, though, but the detail, and lighting used was nice.
The graphics in DII were really strange. For one thing, they backtracked on graphics - everything is strangely pixelated for some reason. DI graphics were much more clearer. Another issue with DII was its design. The fact that a catacomb, in itself (without monsters etc.) was 100% gray just looked horrible. I'd rather have a green hue than a 100% grey dungeon, if I can't get a moderately lit well-designed dungeon. >_<
Thanks for that awesome quote in your sig btw, thats like totally pwning anyone using the "green is eerie" argument.
Lol no it's not.
Green is naturally a eerie color. Pink is not. It's why hospitals and other places such as morgues in movies enhance the florescent lights on set. You have to be dumb not to realize the aesthetic difference that green gives compared to pink from an audiences perspective LOL
Doppel, go watch the video again.. the voice over explains how enemies summon others and must be taken out fast. thus the new game play element of the warrior having the charge through to air to kill the summoner guys first. You should really watch the video and attempt to understand the gameplay before making up such arguments. Yes, believe it or not there is a reason Blizzard is making the gameplay of the classes barbarian in such a way. It's more fun. In a recent article they explain how much better the combat is in D3 because of such things, and if everything was shrouded in black the gameplay suffers. Sorry, don't know what else to say. I just don;t think you know hwat your talkinga bout You seem to be too angry or something to even be able to open up your brain to the way gameplay works in this game instead of Blizzard simply making Diablo 2 with better graphics lol.
Kenzai -
What in the hells?
Seriously, open the trailer.
The place the character stays on is always less green and sometimes not at all.
It doesnt even look like color. (I mean color vs. light)
And those stones used there are definitely not naturally green.
Even if some places remain mostly green, there are some colors which dont have green at all.
Like where the Thousand Pounder is summoned or the dungeon exit. The same stones are used.
Unfortunately i cant take screenshots from WMP.
or course it's less green where the character is standing. You toon illuminates light around him so you can see where you are going lol. just like in the screenshot, the green by the candles is less green. this was explained last thread with the candle talk and pictures....
again, the stone is green. the green is simply less radiant when light reflects off the surface. it's like that in real life. sorry, your "because I sad so" argument isn't working and since you are the one nitpicking and challenging the art directiona nd game design.. you are the one with something to prove. I just hope future discussion you bring hold more ground.
Maybe you are confused as to what your trying to say? I'm not being a smart ass but i think it lines up with the moot point that doppler is trying to make. You see the green stones therefore you think they are "lit up" and have some sort of light source. That's wrong though. They are Not lit up. They are simply green. Just becasue you can see them doesn;t mean there is a light on them. There isn;t the shroud of darkness that is present in the other games. This is a design choice blizzard made becasue the gameplay that suppliments it is mroe fun, and the player has to be able to see.

Thanks ExGhoul for showing us you have absolutely no clue whatsoever when it comes to the psychology behind colors. Go learn some psychology.
As for your "go watch the vid" argument, those are balance issues, "BALANCE ISSUES". Go learn some game design while you're at it.
Hi. I have a bachelors of science in psychology. What do you do?
The psychology of green? Don't you mean the aesthetics of green? And the perception it has on the brain?
....the psychology of green. lol.
Anyway, yes. green is associated with many things creepy and dark. Here, i'll pull some quotes for you.
Green is also known to have signified witchcraft, devilry and evil for its association with faeries and spirits of early English folklore. It also had an association with decay and toxicity.
Williams, Margaret. The Pearl Poet, His Complete Works. Random House, 1967.
In film the color temperature of green evokes strong emotion in being sick, cold, and scary. Ever seen the movie Saw?
Why do you think they used green over pink throughout the whole movie lol.
You really fail dude. Just because you are the first to scream "THIS GUYS AN IDIOT and DOESNT KNOW ANYTING" doesnt prove your argument lol.

I never said green couldn't evoke that feeling, but it doesn't evoke that feeling PER DEFINITION. (wich is plain clear in your pic, thats not eerie or scary or whatever, thats fucking laughable)
And there are plenty of movies that make use of pink to evoke a very eerie and scary feeling. But thats not even the point, does it sound like i'm wishing green to be replaced by pink or whatever?
Does it sound like i don't want green whatsoever or whatever?
There are numerous times i made it clear that i'm all for a green eerie whatever in Diablo3, the problem is, D3 just looks to be lit by a green neon and thats it, it completely failed trying to provide that "eerie feeling", and whats worse is that the entire dungeon seems to be lit by that stuff.
well atleast they tried... haha funny sig about "open ur mouth ill stuff my fist and somthing.....till im smiling. Is that a freestyle u thought up of?
a blue dungeon is kinda boring. Well let the developers do their job and make the game. And let us do our job....playy the game!! No1 is forcing any1 to buy the game.
Yea, guess there wasn't much to say after my 1-2 punch with the Saw photo and the aesthetics of the color green. However, the funniest part was when you told me to learn some psychology. You had no clue I have a degree in it XD and then you said the psychology of green, as if it has a brain and a cognitive process lolol.
The thread is doomed to close now. Guess there was no rebuttal other than "but but but I dont like it!" lol.

Pretty much arguments from both sides have been exhausted. I doubt there can be any more until more screenshots/videos/media/ANYTHING is released from Blizzard. Everything else is pure speculation.
