While there is strength and weakness in both styles, the advantage of inventory "tetris" is that it's relatively quick to organise and find what's in your inventory. It can also have just as much space as a single-slot system, judging by how NWN used the "tetris" inventory. The disadvantage is the fact that you can't show nearly as much on the screen at once, and compared to a fully organised single-slot isn't as efficient. The problem is it's a constant effort to keep the single-slot organized, and can be a hassle to find items you don't want in your inventory.
I disagree with you on that one, I'd rather fit 100 things in my inventory then lets say... 5? Take a minute out of your day to organize it and you'll be fine - it's also not like you'll have to find things in your inventory in the midst of battle, if you do then you've obviously entered that battle unprepared and that's your problem.

NWN has shown that inventory tetris still works, and you can hold a lot of items through use of pages.
Titan's Quest showed that tetris style is actually fast to organise due to a neat feature called an organisation button. One click and it's still easier to find your items due to their size compared to other items.
so um. the designers are not going to change the art direction anymore? This beginning stage of the game will look like /that/? forever?
not being the guy with authority or anything but its a little nerve-racking reading through some posts... some people need to stop personally attacking people (flaming) because they have a different opinion. it's stupid and makes you look desperate. i just got out of a US history class and we were talking about the civil war and this reminds me of it so much
anyways, its too bad they won't tweak anymore of the art because I was really hoping for progressive changes... add in some dynamic lighting from the effects/better lighting overall, lessen the over-emphasis on color-theory, take some time to really see why so many fans dislike it. I'm sure the main problem is not the colors per se.
I wouldn't find it funny either if it was about me, trolling? You're one to talk, probably the biggest hypocrite on this forum and why are you even back? See bottom quote.
They must have told you off as well.
No, I just go there when too many trolls like yourself come out to play.

If you get personally attacked by letters through the internet its a good thing to always have a box of tissues and a band-aid around.
I think both inventory tetris and the single slot system will work fine. But I would love to have the option to rotate items to make them fit in the tetris inventory.
He sort of underlines why I hate arty people. They choose colours/styles based on textbook reasons, instead of "because it looks good". As long as they have their little textbook that says green means horror then they'll use it and be in the clear.
Those two things are not mutually exclusive.
The textbooks on color theory and mood created by lighting do help an artist create something that both looks cool, and has reasoning and intent behind it in order to have an effect on the viewer.
World of warcrafts inventory was fine with me when i played world of warcraft. should it be in diablo 3. Not in my opinion.
Do you remember those awesome pictures of real armor and weapons in your inventory when you got something good or if you had a bunch of items in it in diablo 2?
Now delete that, and make them little pixelated boxes with crappy pictures.
Downgrade? To me it is.

You have to open more inventories so i wouldn't say its more practical though.
If they do it exactly like WoW, then no I would agree it's not more practical. I was under the impression for D3 it will be you add a bag and it just gives you more slots to use. Like all in one inventory.
everything thats wrong with the grid inventory (tetris) can be fixed with almost no effort at all
single slot is the lazyest way thoug, and small handmade pixelated icons are terrible imo.
but i think that may change for better in the final just like in D1 and 2
Since when did they remove stamina and run&walk? And define multiple slot usage, unless you mean that potion belt which is now refined for skill usage?

Downgrade in graphical attribute? Yes.
Upgrade in practicality? Yes.

Didn't the thread just get cleared out of comments like this?

Where is the lore behind it? Where do they come from? Why put it into a fantasy game?
They just threw them in diablo 3 without considering any better ideas or looks?
Correction:
Health orbs are not part of art direction, they are exclusively a part of gameplay.
The only part the art department has a say over health orbs is how they look.
It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.
There might be something in the manual as to why orbs are there.
