Everyone keeps mentioning a new class, and even I have. But the more I think about it, Blizzard would be doing themselves a favor if they kept one of the new classes a secret. So that on release day everyones even more excited to see what the last class is. We know there will be at least one more new class, and at least one more returning class.
I expect a new class at Blizzcon but after that I wouldn't expect something new for a while.
i think blizzard is playing mind games with everyone (just like they setup all of the details in the gameplay video) and making it look like they dont have anything done... i mean come on theyve been working on it for three years now.... they have to have at least a majority of it done...
Is there any sign for BlizzCon this year? Would be superb to revamp the hype.
I do not recall any official statement, and there is not site for Blizzcon 08 up yet, but I have heard whispers on the air that it is in September. It is generally held in the August - October time of the year, roughly, it fluctuates, but it is around that time. But since we are in August already, and there has been no mention of it yet, I figure it is in September of October.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I'm hoping we'll see D3 in 2009, worst case early 2010.
Maybe Blizzard will surprise everyone and release it even earlier.
I quote from wiki; Most of the game mechanics and physics are complete and undergoing minor revisions. Most of the current and remaining development will focus on adding game content.
That and the fact that they've been working on it for three years now, going on four soon.
it's hard to say how long they have been working on it, the started paused designers went to flagship for hell gate London, blizzard pressed the play button, hired as many of them back as possible, and started again.
If the game is bad then it is bad, hellgate killed itself cuz it sucked not because of the overhype.
And if anything all this talk about the graphics may make D3 a "sure fail" that turns out to be amazing.
overhype can be bad for a game though. Halo3 was the most hyped game i've ever seen, and i was a huge fan of halo, halo for pc, and halo2. after playin halo3 for awhile i was like meh... this is alright, and I quit playing after i beat campaign. army of two was also super hyped, but that game just plain sucked ass. (waste of $60 :()

Halo is a very overrated series IMO. Although others may think differently, Halo is truly opened to more "kiddies" that enjoy "cooler" and futuristic mechanics and weapons. For me, Half life 2 is still one of the most well designed and beautifully thought out games, with amazing storyline and detailed facial features.
Anyways, hyping too much is a bad thing, since often times we're given something that is enjoyable for only a brief period of time (Hellgate). But hey, whats keeping this site so populated and busy ?
The hype is really just in any one person's mind. Between people going to school and work, hanging out with friends and playing games that are currently out theres not a whole lot of time to get influenced by it.
Blizzard is going to release info bit by bit to keep the public interested. That's just good marketing, and I want them to do it because it shows me that they think I the player/customer/consumer is important.
Shows that they care about the game they're making and when they care that much to keep the public posted during the final developments well its going to be a better game and experience for all of us.
Look at what's happened with Starcraft Ghost, what happened with that? The players were looking at the direction Blizzard was taking and at least I was confused about how a stealth unit, a ghost, would be all intense combat.
Bottom line is I'm interested, I can't wait. We know what Diablo 3 is going to be like, its not entirely new but its a refreshing reimagination of something we already enjoy.

K first off, whats your reference? I haven't seen anything official on more returning playable characters.
Second off, while it sounds like an nice idea initially, to have only one character kept a secret until the game releases, it is completely pointless.
people will start to speculate about this one character and over hype him and make him some godly thing. I doubt the character class will be able to live up to the hype people will create.
Hopefully theyll do some nice improvements before showing any more screnshots of barbs with oversized pauldrons or green dungeons. And also work on the environment a bit. You know, zombies, skeletons and other undead creature usually dont walk around nice forests and under the sunshine, but instead caves, dungeons, and abondened places and graveyards in the night. Unless they took over the whole place of course, like in D2 act1. In this case the sun wont shine on you as usual. XD

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.
yeah thats what im saying, if we had a more constant stream of information, i think most fans would be a little less angry and a little more willing to pay for online(if they do charge bnet 2.0)
I think Diablo 3 is a special type of game, in that nearly everyone you might talk to - online or IRL - has heard of it and is anxiously awaiting its release. While D3, as it isn't an MMO like World of Warcraft, probably won't be as large a cash cow, I still see the game being tremendously successful. I understand the hype lasting this long due to how dedicated, and how many Diablo fans there are. I can also see the hype being a positive thing - not to come off as a Blizzard fanboy, but the company makes excellent games and wouldn't release a title if it wasn't prudent for them to do so.
And I imagine them trickling out new information over time. Something like a new class being announced, or sets or otherwise would keep the fans tantalized and talking. Then there's when they announce the release date, something that would garner even more attention.

If you don't have anything good to say, say it on the internet.

i agree with that 100%, hype is slowly decaying but to still have some isn't a horrible thing at all. Otherwise the game wont be nearly as what you hoped it would be

I don't expect the game until Q3/4 of '09, but my God would I be thrilled if it were Christmas time this year.
Bashiok - Blizzard Poster
I think it will be released June 29th (Or whenever D2 was released.)
I was thinking the same, or the corny September 9th, 2009 date... for obvious reasons.
