I don't think anything was wrong with D2 runewords. What ruined it a bit was all the duped runes, suddenly everyone had all the high-end runeword items.. As long as the new bnet is dupe free, as long as this is top priority, it really wouldnt hurt to have D2 like, powerful rune words..
It would still hinder PvP. If Enigma is extremely rare, but some guy eventually gets it, he will own everyone in PvP, which is ridiculous.
What do you care about one guy that worked his butt off to get an uber elite runeword??
But ya, I get your drift..
However, that could be easily fixed if they had a good regular unique substitute, or maybe a combination. If they do make Enigma like runewords, then they should make it balanced enough so that others can achieve similar/same effect with other item(s)..

Lace me with the words of destruction and I'll explode, but supply me with the will to survive and watch the world grow.

Because getting runes isn't all about hard work, it's a good percentage about loot luck.

If they're going to do that why not just give everyone teleport by making Enigma pretty common, like what happened in D2.

I don't consider continual farming hard work. I consider it lack of intelligence. Normal people would die of boredom. If you want good PvP you gotta limit it on the items. Some itmes are fine for PvE, but PvP, just no.

Then we run into the same problems.
Well thats what I mean. There's really no way of pleasing people. Make it common, people complain. Make it hard to get, people complain about that one guy that can teleport.. I mean, its not like there wasnt other ways to teleport in D2, other than Enigma.. Did everyone forget when Enigma wasn't as common, and those that wanted teleport badly would use amulets that gave +1-2 to Teleport? There were other options out there. Blizzard could just as easily balance it by providing other options, but even so, I'd still rather see to it that its really hard to obtain teleport, period. I like a good challenge. Plus it makes the game more interesting, instead of seeing a bunch of clones everywhere with identical abilities...

How about we leave GROSSLY class specific skills to one class?
I don't remember +1 or 2 teleport amulets. Maybe that's just me.
Lol, yup, they were there.. Twas the hot thing back in 1.09, or something.. Enigma was hard to obtain so a lot of people just used Teleport amuelts to get similar effect.

Now you've done it.. Then lets take it a step further and say, why make such characters?
I mean, Sorc certainly had an advantage over others with teleport? Did it not? But, would you rather not see teleprot at all? Didnt think so..
No, no one has "done it".
Sorc didn't have a advantage and hopefully will have even less of one in D3. I played a Sorc for the most part but teleport was ridiculous you could just zap through the whole level and kill the boss without taking out almost any mobs along the way.
I hope in D3 they make a short delay on teleport, 8 seconds or so. It should be a escape skill not a "let's run to the end of the level and magic find" skill.
A class skill like teleport should be a class skill. We didn't see other classes using frozen orb or other things.
Actually, yes we did. There were many items that would give the ability to use a skill from other class, though they had charges that would have to be repaired after used up. I do agree with you though, we do need a delay on teleport. However, to say that Sorc didnt have an advantage with teleport prior to people being able to get Enigma is just wrong.. With the right build, it had a major advantage.. Not to mention mf'ing..

Yes with MFing it had a big advantage, but for PvP there was always something you could do to trump a teleporting sorc.
They're a frozen orb sorc? Throw on some cold resist gear.
Fire Sorc, fire resist.
Lightning Sorc, lightning resist.
Sorc's gained the least hp per level, that didn't always stop them from having quite a bit of HP but it stopped them from having HP, armor, AND resist, a long with more +skills, Faster casting, etc etc.
Everyone having teleport though just made PvP pretty boring to me. If it had a delay of about 8 seconds and given the new skillbar so we have more then a few skills to use in quick succession I don't guess I'd mind it TOO much.
Teleporting around using only frozen orb seemed kind of bleh though, I didn't have time to switch skills, nor was it really necessary.
I still believe that uniques and Set items (Completed) should be the most powerful items. No pebbles with jibberish markings on them will be made into godly items.
I sort of agree with this... but then the game becomes too predictable, one of my favourite things about diablo was the random element... I miss pre expansion where some of the most powerful items were Rares.
I think as a GENERAL rule there Uniques and Sets are the most powerful/valuable, but depending on the millions of potential combo's of stats, that there are rares that can be better.
Like say an elite great sword with +350% ED, thats Etheral, has "repairs one durability ever 33 secs", has 30% IAS, Dual leach... etc.... It's rare to get something with those sort of stats, but if you did, it would be like "best in slot"
Also I liked runes, and the idea of rune words... the main problem was that 90% of rune words fit into 2 categories... Stupidly over powered, to the point of ruining the game. Or Completely not worth it, although that has two sub categories A) the rune word was just generally underwhelming, or the rune word was decent... but required VERY expensive runes.
There were only a few balanced runewords... Ort/Sol in a helm (pretty meh, but +1 skills, nice for newbies" Shael/Eth in a shield was very nice MF shield for not overly expensive runes.

But runewords are more difficult and "unique." Although it should be true that set items be better, but the chances for making a set to a runeword was different.
Daemaro you seem pretty bent on the caster not getting teleport in D3 because of teleport in D2. It was the same in D1, except that there was no magic find so you were better off to kill everything along the way.
If you hate it so much, why not just give in and play a sorc? I have to say I'm quite the opposite of you, I won't play a melee char because its so SLOW.

Oh nearly 70% of my characters are Sorc ironically.
I see lol. I mean in essence it kind of is, but in reality I would expect that if someone could do magic the first thing they would learn is to teleport. So a caster that didn't have that ability would strike me as odd. And as long as Blizz is fine with it you won't see me complaining!
