I really hope they include rune/runewords into D3. Other than from the teaser, haven't really seen any mention of runes/runewords. I really loved them in D2, hope they return.
Here's to hopeing.

Lace me with the words of destruction and I'll explode, but supply me with the will to survive and watch the world grow.
Runes took over the whole game play of d2 lod. No one was worried about killing monsters (what it should be). Everyone that played the game was mostly concerned about finding runes.

I like the idea of rune words because its basically a unique, that you build, and you can have it in a variety of weapons. Lets say I want a crushing blow rune word, well I put that in a fast weapon to utilize it. I also like the option of using a class specific item to gain both the rune word and previous benefits.
It gets ridiculous when there are a select few rune words that are simply better than any other item in game such as Enigma. Not to mention, that some runes are just so ridiculously hard to obtain. I like the option of getting teleport on non sorc characters, but +2skills, mf, teleport, run/walk, str, life, etc etc etc, its like the end game armor for all.
Now words such as dragon, dream, and HoJ are just sex. They create an entire spec of paly on their own. I also like other options for your merc to give them an aura such as infinity or a chance on hit skill.

"The gaming public now has focus on Diablo again, and with it comes the modern-age of trolling and jackassery."
Runes? Hopefully. We see some in the gameplay but they're not named like the ones in LOD.
Runewords? I hope not. I hope we aren't thrown into another game where everyone is fighting over runes just to make some silly runeword that gives everyone the ability to teleport.
If there are runewords I at least hope they're a lot more balanced.
Maybe they can make the strength of the rune words you can create and use more dependent on your level of skill: monsters defeated, quests completed, bosses killed, play time, ect.
I still believe that uniques and Set items (Completed) should be the most powerful items. No pebbles with jibberish markings on them will be made into godly items.

In an interview at the WWI, one of the guys said that they've got something really cool in store for runes but weren't aloud to talk about it yet. He was grinning really big when they mentioned it like he was ready to pop. That was in one of the 2 million articles that came out the day after.
I sure don't. Did you play Diablo II before runewords took over? It was so much more fun.
I don't think that had anything to do with runes & runewords actually being in the game, more so how overpowered some of them were and bad these particular runes were duped.
I hope they return they were a big part of the game and some of the earlier runes were especially helpful early on.
Long Answer: I would like something like it in the game because crafting or making a "word" with the runes and then making a uber item just felt satisfying. Its true that they kind of "took over" when they were introduced into LoD. Not only because of the powerful items you could make with words out of them but just they themselves gave items huge amounts of power when placed in a socket. Basically what I would like to see is them still have the crafting part of it but make the runes a little less powerful when not used when making worded items.

runeword were mostly the end game items becouse they were supposed to be hell alot difficult to do
i have only find one gul and a ber in my life in terms of hrs
if it wasnt for duping, i think everyone would probably have 2 big runewords at most and thats a good thing imo
i really hope they do come back and with teh same level tehy were in diablo 2, so long they are as difficult as tehy were supposed to be without duping
it was loads of fun to have 2 dream in a sorc with maxed light mastery and some melle gear and skill placement. Most fun to play build EVER
It would be cool if they made some runewords that were randomized, like changed every month
A whole month of someone finding a certain runeword that is godly and people obsessing over them, then the month is over and that runeword is now godly rare
I'd be fine with runes and runewords returning, so long as they're both implemented properly, possibly with a few alterations from what they were in D2. I recall a lot of runewords being pitifully weak, and others (like enigma, yes) being extremely powerful, even better than set items. I also disliked having to go online for the rune orders, as it was immersion-breaking. They should put in a tome or something in-game that lists the various combinations.

If you don't have anything good to say, say it on the internet.
I don't think anything was wrong with D2 runewords. What ruined it a bit was all the duped runes, suddenly everyone had all the high-end runeword items.. As long as the new bnet is dupe free, as long as this is top priority, it really wouldnt hurt to have D2 like, powerful rune words..
Just as long as people don't get them easily.

There will be runes in Diablo 3, and you can obviously see it in the Gameplay video.
