I hope the dev's working on Diablo 3 understand the rivalry between Diablo community players/fans and WoW community players/fans. Hopefully the Dev's will keep it Diablo due to this fact.
You know... In a way the final campaign in Frozen Throne was a preview for Diablo 3. The first hero, Rexxar is a barbarian with a hammer in one hand and an axe in the other, and then he is joined by a witch doctor who has that voodoo spirits power which looks Exactly like that one power the D3 Witch doctor has. To make it obvious, both the campaign and the demonstration of D3 feature A dual-wielding barbarian guy and a witch doctor. Considering D3 has been 5 years in the making, I have no doubt that the hinting in frozen throne was intentional. I wonder if there are any other hints in that campaign to give us ideas of what creative thought processes were used in D3's developement
Finally; an art thread worth reading that wasn't filled with the author's opinions on the matter that he couldn't share in an already made thread.

It was a tongue in cheek joke due to the majority of the "dungeon" being cast in blue shadowing with a mysterious green light, as if you were constantly poisoned while running through the Frozen Pass.
It was just something I remembered when I read that the pc gamer mag was going to touch on the petition. It made me think, hmm. You know, we kinda asked Blizz to do this once before in another game and wonder if the brighter *night* is something of an art style in itself. I don't mind the colors at all, and I like seeing the dungeon as I go through it. (It reminds me more of the lush hand painted BG series than anything else.) But, I did find the light radius and the dark caves kinda cool too. So, I hope there are dark caves. But, when I think about D1 and 2, there were really only a few areas truly black as pitch. Viva Variety? I think IF they just answer about Light Radius then we'll have a good idea.
I am also kinda curious if this came up in any of their other games. War3 had a night cycle after all. Anyone test that and recall if they tweaked the darkness any?
I can atest in WoW at least, they changed things in Alpha like mad. For instance, in one push, no talent trees. You had skill points when you leveled one push, grinded them in the next. One push you could get every tradeskill, next only 3. Then you could buy stats with them etc. Took them awhile to come up with the trees. At the time, people pegged it as Diabloish
IF I recall correctly (hey, it's been awhile) they did not make night darker because in WoW, the day/night cycle is 24 hours (another big debate at the time). In other games where you get a pitch black night, its only a few hours. So, if it had been pitch black, people in Australia would always play in that. Had they shortened the game clock, they probably would have made night darker.

Blizzard changes art all the time. For example, in the Burning Crusade beta, blood elves use to be very skinny, then they got beefed up. They also made orc shoulders smaller in some patch, and made tauren weapons smaller, which got so much QQ that both got reversed. They also recently in 2.3 or 2.4 (I forget) revamp all the character models to be less demanding to run.
But to get them to change art direction by an online petition... not going to happen.
I apologize for veering slightly off topic here, but were the characters updated recently? Wearables on the two classes appear slightly different compared to older videos and flash files. The necklace on the Witch-Doctor, while texturally different from another location, appear shrunk down a notch. It is the same for the Barbarian shoulder-armor. http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/8804/88829747wa6.jpg
at this point anything that holds up the release is a bad thing in my book
I can't stress that any further. I hope I can touch Diablo III before I go to UNI. Not to mention the amount of time I'm gonna spend studying in order to get to a good UNI. So I hope I can shave off enough time off my timetable to play Diablo. Of course, this is only if Diablo III is released within the next 2 years... and hopefully it will be.:(
How crappy WoW graphics are.
Look at the OP, youll get what i mean.
I hope theyll really change some things a little.
Barb armor is sticking out so much.
And if all dungeons will be like the one in the trailer...
Too broad. Though a few places like in the trailer dungeon wont hurt.
Who else is getting a bad feel when looking at the barb armour?
It looks so inflexible and bulky. The Diablo II barb was really awesome in plate mail and horned helm. You know he looked like a giant black knight and the horns are just adding to the awesomeness. And it looked very flexible too.
There is no way it was more flexible, whether it looked better or not, meh. I like both looks in a way but full on plate mail like in d2 kinda doesn't fit a minimalist like a barbarian.
