All it has to do is be scripted so then when a killing blow is calculated: alternate animation is used.
That simple
If we're talking about a % chance of a finishing move that's fine. I just don't want to see a skill that's a finishing move that will kill a monster below 10% hp.

Errr.. you are underestimating him, he knows that. That was not the point of his post, the point of is post was to say that a fixed percentage won't work because of all the diversity of the monsters, you really need to do it by hand.
Exactly I don't know why he felt it was necessary to say I'm underestimating computers, yes they do fast math but it's not magical math it's still math.

did you even bother to read my previous post? The best way to do it is with an alternate animation, not a skill you have to trigger. Blizzard is trying to avoid useless or underused skills this time around and having an extremely limited "finishing" skill would fall into that category.

K so if you kill 100 zombies with whirlwind enjoy your finishing moves spam.
Sure, I would like it if they made either class specific finishing moves on major bosses, or a different finishing move for each boss pertaining to all classes, or both. I would also like to see the Boss do finishing moves to the player if the boss happens to defeat the player. But this isn't Devil May Cry 4, or any similar game, it's a Hack N Slash, so I don't expect them to have finishing moves in Diablo 3, I don't see how it would work out unless you are able to use the environment in a certain fashion, like a crumbling wall, or furnace for instance. Maybe a skill button that triggers the the move, who knows.
Also each class would have to have completely different finishing moves.
Like it wouldn't make sense to see a Witch Doctor leap 15 feet into the air and cut a zombie in half with his club or whatever he uses.
They'd have to be weapon specific too.
Just seems like a awful lot of work for them to do over something that will be cool at first but we'll become used to and pretty bored with after hours of playing.

Hows this:
Instead of 'finishing move' or something, just have 'overkill' animations that occur when the monsters hp is below 0 for a given amount. Like %-10 or -200 hp, just example of what i say.
It could also be like a finisher.
When the hp of the monster drops, use the most damaging skill to get the hp below 0 as far as possible, hitting a breakthrough and causing an über-over-kill...
Bosses should have multiple special death animations, and their hp are usually a little... different. lol
Every boss kill should look epic, finisher or not.
I kind of like that idea a lot better.
They already have this somewhat it seems from the gameplay trailer. When a ghoul is hit and a number pops up above it's head it explodes into pieces. So I guess it's a critical.
It's been so long since I've seen a Hack N Slash with Epic boss kill moments, they all normally just plop over and dissipate, nothing special. Hellgate:London anyone ?
But once you get your skills up every single kill will be an over kill, and then you're over killing like 300 fallen in a camp at once- animations everywhere.

Ah yeah, that's also true... Lvl 99 walks into normal mode fallen camp.

Just make them fly at 100miles/h with the physic engine
I like THAT idea better. A chance to reduce the weight of a creature and send it flying upon death. Of course this still wouldn't work with larger monsters like the Assault Beast.

Exploding corpses and gore everywhere.
It would be entertaining, to say the least, but it would definitely defeat the point of said overkill- to provide a unique change in the way monsters die so that it doesn't look so bland.
I think the best way to do this would be to have it so that:
I think finishing moves is a terrible idea for 2 reasons..
1. Already been said, killing a ton of monsters and have spam everywhere.
2. Kill one monster and oh, let me take time to do a gory animation while you guys just keep beating on me.

Yeah... what about mages like the sorceress... cast frozen orb and wham bam thank you mam.
Chain lightining, strafe, multishot, zeal. Not saying these will be in game but... come on.
I hardly think a move that kills anything below 10%hp would be "underused" or "useless"...
More like way over powered later on.

That's all way too flashy and agile for a barbarian.
I don't know about the glowing part...
