I have a LOT of time to kill lately, so I decided that I would invest some time from my otherwise mentally stagnant life to coming up with an idea that hasn't been thought up on this board lately, and after much consideration I decided that I know exactly what i want to write about- the possibility of picky requirement, hard- to do combo skills. Let me tell you a little bit about what I'm thinking, because I really think that as I talk about it the idea will flesh out itself.
My lvl 30 Witch Doctor and my best friend's lvl 33 Barbarian are going in for the kill against the endgame enemy, who seems hardly nicked by our strings of rapid-fire elemental and hard-hitting physical attacks. Finally we've used every technique in our arsenal, and to no avail. The light next to my name on the teamspeak room goes green:
Me: Dude, I'm running low on mana, we have to finish this quick or we're nerfed. Let's go in for the combo move
friend:which one?
Me: Pfft, I don't care. Trials of Fire, I guess.
so my friend begins getting into place, knowing the requirements for the attack: He needs to be a fair distance from the boss so that the only thing my WD's Fire Bomb can hit is him. He also knows that the exact second my fire bomb hits, he has to use whirlwind to execute the move. My firebomb hits, and he uses whirlwind. Fire wraps around him as he spirals, creating a firespout that moves ever so slowly into the boss. Now, my WD only has 1 point invested into firebomb, making it weak, but my friend has whirlwind maxed, strengthening it to a medium damaging combo. A short cinematic play of our characters executing the attack, and the boss takes a pretty hard hit. Into the ground. As my character steps to the boss's corpse, my light on teamspeak again turns green, as I start shouting.
Me: You just got knocked the F#$% OUT!
We're careful with who we fight from then on, knowing that we only get one combo every two hours.
haha funny i actually tought of that today... tough i think it would be awesome.. i also think it would be really hard to implement in a game that looks as fast paced as D3 looks
yay people like my idea! :-) but i see where there would be complications. I guess in my head i only really saw it used against overwhelming masses or big bosses
ya that would be sick. could you imagine a fiery hurricane? that would be really cool. theres so many things you could do

I like the idea of skills stacking as such, firey whirlwinds etc sound like lots of fun. They will add to the team gameplay.
However... 2 hour cooldown? cinematic? ridiculous one hit kill?
If the stacking increased damage by a very small amount...just enough to be bothered using it...it would be good. But extreme damage will lead to unbalanced gameplay, lacking of fun and spontaneity (sp?).
I think it would be best implemented so that the first few attacks can go off with the combos, but once the battle gets going it is pretty hard (and not neccessary) to land them. Sort of like if a barb sees a fireball launching he might try and land the combo by getting to it, but it's not really going to influence the outcome of the battle if he does.
the ridiculous one hit kill is the reason for the two hour cooldown, so they balance each other out. I wouldn't like the idea if it was something that had slightly above average effect but didn't seem special. it is rediculous though, but i think a ridiculously overpowered characteristic is balanced with a rediculously underpowered characteristic, because it's really just a precationary thingagainst bosses you otherwise couldn't kill
Interesting Idea. That could evolve into something more extreme. Imagine 4 person combo's. However, like stated before, skill combo's doesn't really fit the Diablo Series.

EDIT: Stomp plus fireball = minivolcano?
