I think its Tyrael. Because on the home page of diablo3.com is him standing in a Cathedral. and it looks like the one in the vid where the meteor crashes. idk just a thought.
Cathedral also lacks the visage of something that was just hit by a comet. Also given the concept art of two angels in the Cathedral the idea is that:
Tyrael was in the Cathedral when Imperius came down in a flaming comet. Hence, Imperius is in the comet. At least that's an idea.
What we know so far is that the comet is a "Fiery Harbinger of Doom" that "falls from the heavens" - It is a heavenly body, unless heavens simply refers to the sky, but that's a long shot. (Considering the importance of heaven in Diablo, I doubt they'd use the word so carelessly unless to purposely throw us off)
And given Imperius and his background for hating Sanctuary, both the "falls from the heavens" and "fiery harbinger of doom" both fit his description. As well as the supposed upturned sword in the concept art.
cross always existed, but christianity "invented" it in a situation when u see an angel with a cross, it reffers to christianity! no debate about that!
Errr... Christ+cross=crucifix.
That's irrelevant. Nor was it my intent to bring up something I already knew. Case in point: Christianity doesn't exist within the boundaries of Diablo. Therefore a cross would have lesser to no meaning than an upturned sword on a breastplate of an Archangel.
(That archangel who matches and fits many descriptions and assumptions people have made, and that have been made evident by Blizzard, Imperius)
Separate the two, and it becomes easier to assume that it is really a sword instead of a cross. The only explanation otherwise is that it was merely design choice, and obviously inspiration.
it seems like there's 2 impacts, one could be the main comet (that crashed near those guards on the wall, maybe a chunk of the worldstone) and another could be a fragment of it (landed in tristram, possibly an angel). in the cinematic trailer there are several small fragments separating from the main comet.

very good point.
who agrees> TYRAEL looks BAD-ASSSSSS!
i dont see anything in that screencap, but i dont think imperius is here to destroy sanctuary or anything like that...
its more likely he is asking you to take up arms to defend sanc...
[/b]
I think Imperius has came with a dark omen, as he intends to destroy Sanctuary; he forces the mortals to take arms, and Tyrael obviously tries to intervene. Sounds really interesting.
Here's how I see it, and I hope others do as well or maybe I'm crazy...
"meteor" falling from the sky...
Girl walks out front to see wtf is going on...
Girl runs back inside to warn Cain about wtf is going on...
Deckard Cain turns to Girl and is like wtf...
Meteor hits the Cathedral...
Girl walks to ledge of the big crater that the meteor made...
Out pops this dude...
I would like the point out that concept art for that last photo probably doesn't convey anything, especially not Tyrael looking at the angel popping out of the crater. The waves might have been the girls hair, and although the physique of that character looks like a guy, it's just a really rough sketch.
don't mean to spam, but this is good insight for me. It appears they have started using the sisters cathedral again possibly, unless this is a new cathedral, and it can be either Tyrael rejected my heaven, or Imperius sent from heaven by either his superiors or on a vigilanty. This is part of the gameplay too because you have to go save Cain who is in the cathedral.
-oh yeah, the blue flames could be hank hill going crazy with his propane.
This obviously has importance; it could be that Imperius alwasy comes down to earth in such a haphazard way, that he was never beaten, and that he will shake it off and bring some mayhem.
it seems there is a separate image put in there but i can't figure it out
I don't get it... the image that is.

Here: Look close or you'll miss it. It appears to be an angelic figure curved into the descent more from this. Which would mean Imperius most likely. Or perhaps Tyrael coming to deliver the warning.
If your theory is accurate, I highly doubt it's Imperious. It looks to be like an Angel is falling, with his back to the earth. Like he was thrown and is crashing, which could maybe be an indication of Tyrael's fate?
But that picture of Diablo in the ice makes me think it's not really ice and the meteor and he's in it! Makes no sense, but I like this idea (tyrael falling) much better.

The Diablo in the ice thing had more to do with making people who don't get leaked info out of Blizzard wonder what game is going to be announced.
Just hype, that's why they had symbols from all their games on the site during the event.
I thought that hydra thing came out of one of the comets...

When Tyrael blew up the Worldstone, the explosion was so awesome and sent him so high up in the air that it took 25 years before he fell down again. O:
Wouldn't it be hilarious if the heavens turned out to be protoss and hell zerg?
lolz.

The first thing I thought when I saw this trailer was yeah, that's an angel coming down, and I'm still certain it is. From what some of you are saying, Imperius is probably the most logical guess. But I doubt he would be one to be booted down like it appears whoever it is was.
Whatever happened to Izual, maybe he could have been kicked out of heaven after trying to reenter, for his betrayal?

Personally I think Tyrael has an evil aura about him now (Prime evils)
I think you make a good point and thanks for creating the .gif image and showing us this, I really do think it's Tyrael being banished from heaven or something..
Unless this it Tyrael :
then I don't think the meteor is him, because that guy is what pops out of the crater the meteor makes in the church.
