as you can see, the environment doesn't reflect the light from the witch doctor's firebombs. Or other skills for that matter.
it would be so cool if u have your light radius, (and it will be hard to see the monsters coming from the corner), so u throw a firebomb and they light up for a few sec screaming or something.
this would make the art more real... like every1 wants.
I honestly feel like the whole lighting argument is way overplayed. This was a working demo they showed us, they are at least a year away from even considering release. Lighting can be changed quite easily once the game is produced, so lets just wait and see.
I do agree that the spells should be effecting the environment visually though. Sorry if I went off on a tangent above.
THey had 8 years. If it was so simple why didn't they do it... We all know diablo just got announced. we all know it is still in development. as fans, suggestions like these might help them get it instead of over-believing.
Light radius won't work as the game is now. A lot of events you won't be able to see clearly. The destructible walls up ahead, the wall falling on the merc, the assault beast in the background.
The game as it is now isn't made for light radius.
Light radius sucks even in D2. I had to suffer from it when it only worked in window mode for a while.. but now I finally got it working fullscreen and finally I can actually see things.
But yeah spells should have some effects on enviroment.
light radius was only a side thought. but now that i think about it, i think if there will be some light source from the player and some mysterious unknown for the player to fear, might not be something that bad as people may think.
it doesnt have to be radius, it doesn't have to be circular... but there should be some dark spots to give u a sense of unknowing. If there are environmental game devices, light sources such as fire, sun, whatever, can easily be used to emphasize that area more for the player to realize what to do. And I'm not talking about a thick darkness... maybe more faded until it is fully dark..
THe player can emit light, other light sources such as torches or magic can be used to light up some areas...
basically it wont be pitch black where you can see a thing.
really though, in a cathedral where is all the light coming from? you can see every dam monster 20 feet away. the game lacks a defined light source yea?

Its like that in D2...
