I've played many RPG's and MMORPG's and even FPSRPG's and experience poitns is a crucial factor in leveling up
Like many other rpg's experience points is gained from killing monsters and a certian number of poitns is gained, the normal routine. Waht really stood out to me though is how the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion did their experience point gain. Instead of randomly killing monsters and recieving poitns, Oblivion used skill practice to raise experience. How many times you practice with magic, weapons, stealth, and armor usage intead of fighting random mobs was a unique experience to me
This type of leveling up could work with Diablo 3, due to the fact that you will be using alot of different items and spells throughout the game and would be original
well ive never played oblivion (because i only have a wii) but..eh, i like the way its been so far. repeatedly killing monsters after monsters while looking for items and then: hey! im already half way to leveling up! awesome!
besides in the gameplay trailer its already that way so i doubt they would change it now.
That leveling system has nothing to do with Diablo, requires severe and complex balancing, and has not been properly done in any game I remember, including TES itself. Not to mention that if there is one thing I want to see again in Diablo is the classic level up with the red square that lets you improve your attribute points.

Well judging from the way everyone is supporting Blizzard, it seems that this is nothing that they can do

It's not too original, a similar thing exists in Dungeon Siege. It's an interesting concept though but to me, it seems like this mechanic will force me to overuse skills just to "practice" it like biking around GTA: San Andreas for long periods of time just to level up my bike skill.
Don't think so, that was boring lol, and you can't try other stuff unless you wanna be weaker. (Assuming you have to level up when you get a skill point in W/E tree)
Diablo is entertaining game, elder scrolls are something you need to have great deal of interest. You can't just throw ur brains to zzZZ mode and play TES You have to think a bit in there.
I had morrowind for a while but the game crashed everytime at the beginning so didn't play it much then I have oblivion too but hm I think my char is level 2. Didn't find it that interesting. But I still have it maybe I play it some day.
About RPG games that aren't hack&slash I definately like BG2 the most. But ADOM and MUD's are also nice
You can see bots in town cast the same spells over and over for days to level them up.
If they had it on Diablo 3 I'd shoot my goddamn knee with frustration. It does NOT belong in this game.
Oh, and Diablo 3 isn't an MMORPG so I'd love it if people would stop suggesting ideas from MMO's to implement into Diablo 3.
It is only grinding when the character you are using is really boring to play. Diablo 3 is so fun, I predict I will be so busy playing I wont even realize I leveled up until DING I level up
In my opinion, if you slice a demons head off one time, you will know how to do it better the next time. You'll where to stand to avoid bloodspray (or be drenched in it, your choice), what angle for the head tobe cleanly shaven off, what body parts are the most comic to remove first ect.. Woot for killing things and gaining exp.
i've always thought that that would be grand in an rpg, but the only thing that kept me from saying it was the problems it raises: people that want an uber-special skill will have to keep using it over and over to gain effectiveness, meaning by lvl 45 they would likely only be using one attack skill. People already whine that by endgame people only use two attack skills. Also, people would just take to a safe place with easy monsters and cast the same spells over and over. To a degree, it would be a godly cool edition, but flawed.
I hate to break it to you, but Mass Effect outsold KotOR. Both one and two. Mass Effect had a lot more in common with Star Trek than it did with Star Wars.

No, Mass Effect is. Oblivion is popular in the PC because the modding community fixed the game.
