I was thinking about this a while back and I haven't seen this topic discussed at any length, so I figured I'd just throw this out there.
Is everybody satisfied with the single-word name? or would you prefer to be able to enter both a first name and a last name, akin to Guild Wars.
I'm think this would be a great way to allow others to have the first name they are set on, but have a different last name to distinguish between people.
Personally I don't see the use. I , like most diablo players, don't do the wow thing, we make names that arn't actuall names. More like "BigusDickus" "Bowjob" "XxX_Killerz_XxX" Or something lame like that. I guess if you were going to actually name your guy it would be cool but who actually does that . . .
The only advantage in a last name, or 2nd part to the name, would be that if 2 people wanted the same first name, the 2nd name could be different. I.E. Solomon Grundy and Solomon Cane.

I felt that to be one of the downfalls of the game though.... It was kind of annoying to see:
Magus_of_Chaos has entered the world.
Lady_Diamante has entered the world.
I P W N U has entered the world.
Lady_Diamante has left the world.
Magus_of_Chaos has left the world
I P W N U: Aww... nobody loves me

Agreed.... but not everyone is into the roleplaying field like we are... but I do hope they take a page in NCSoft's Guild Wars book.... It was a good feel.

It's not a stupid idea, but it's not Diablo. Most people use stupid names (some variation of XhammerdinX for example) that aren't actually names, so a last name would be pointless.
I named all my characters after either wolf in foriegn languages, different kinds of wolves, or famous wolves/people named after wolves in history. (Never EVER used Beowulf. So before you start, shush.)
But yea, a first and last name would be AWSOME. But it's too cool for D3, so now someone's gotta make a petition against it...

Aww.... but Beowulf is awesome though!
On topic though; I used the names of characters I've written about, played in pen and paper games, or re-used names with different factors... i.e. instead of Magus_Alberyth, I've used Lord_Magus.

I'm really surprised that people are against this idea. Those who want to have more of a roleplaying feel to their characters would be happy, and those who want to name their characters something stupid could of course still do it.
I keep hearing the most ridiculous stuff on this website. How is it, in any way, related to Diablo? Naming characters is a universal concept in all games that allow you to name characters, and all games that aren't 8 years old like DII is allow spaces at this point.

No, it wouldn't be pointless. People that do use long names would be able to finally use them, while those that stick to the "stupid" (I'd say simple) ones can go on with them. Allowing spaces into name creation would actually allow for more variations of simple names, as well as compex names (Lord Airen Albus Grindelwald or something).
I often wanted a last name with my character, but I also hated resorting to the underscores. Or like some people will put a capital X in between the names.

Hey now. I personally like my "X". What's wrong with an X?

Beowulf is awsome. Beowulf has also been brought to the masses via a movie.
