After watching the video again, I began to wonder how XP is gained in Diablo 3. It doesn't seem like XP is gained for every mob you kill, but instead is gained at certain "points" in the dungeon... Like at the beginning it was when different waves of ghouls were complete, and then later on it seemed to happen at random times. Might just be how the demo works, but I was wondering it it's going to be different than d2?...
Any ideas?

Ya.. Kind of a cool concept, but I don't think that will be widely accepted as how XP is gained.

since the vid is a very early version of the game, i wouldn't recommend to look at it as reference.
It is a demonstration, and might as well try to analyze as much out of it as you can. Yes, I know it's early, but to not at least try to gain some knowledge on how the game is going to work out of the little info we get is just being ignorant.

I'm assuming that you now get XP for sucessfully reaching certain area's... almost likewhen you discover something in WoW. And im guessing that he didn't get xp from every mob kill because maybe some of the mobs he was fighting we're too low level for him to get much or any xp from them?

it appeared that the classes were most likely much higher level than the area to show the gameplay, not a true experience - exp will be gained a bit faster I would guess.
apparently they added experience as reward for progressing in quests (Deckard Cain should be on the main quest).
For the rest of the mobs, apparently the character was too high level to receive any experience (or some at least that would be visible in his experience bar).
Try to gain experience as a level 50 character in normal difficulty in Diablo II and you'll get my point.

That's most likely rigged to be that way in the demo.
I don't imagine it's going to differ much from Diablo 2.

Notice how other floating text like block appear when he hits the skeletons.
So you probably gain XP in D3 just like in D2
Just throwing it out there.
