Back in the good old diablo 2, the only way we could send an item from one char to another is either X-fer (Give to another player and tell him to hold onto it until you come back with your other char) or to make a server, drop the item you want them leave and come back as fast as possible and hope to god the server didnt shut down.
Either of these methods are terrible and you could get screwed badly because of greed or server disappearing. I think we need something new. Here are my suggestions, feel free to add/change something and please, ONLY CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
1) Make a mail box where you simply place the item in an inventory looking box, type the player name at the top and click send. This way you can send yourself an item through mail
2) Create an NPC who you give your item to, tell him who to send it to and he becomes a sort of delivery boy. For a price of course, pay him in gold and he will send your item to your other char.
Thats all i got. I believe my first suggestion is from WoW and even if you dont like the game you must admit it is an effective way to get stuff done.
Thanks.

I would help the homeless if i only knew where they lived
By doing this by your second suggestion it would also add a value to gold depending on how much it costs to x-fer. Maybe the higher the ilvl the higher the price?

Sure, the higher the lvl the higher the price sounds reasonable since you will be carrying weapons of greater value and therefore the road more dangerous (Chance of being stolen from)
You wont actually get stolen from randomly, im just saying that the price would rise since you are sending something of great value.

Actually, once you figured out how the latter worked, it was fairly safe, given you had a stable internet connection. Create a game, set a timer for five minutes, then leave and come back with the mule or whoever.
Still a band-aid though, and still pretty annoying, I agree.

How about a collective stash? It would work pretty much like the mail idea, except you wouldn't have to bother putting a name in. This stash would have enough room for one item, and the stash is shared on the account level, so any character on the account could access it, and retrieve the stored item.
As far as sending items to OTHERS...well, some mail system or something would probably be best, but I haven't thought about the mechanics of that.
Pffft, give me a shared stash where I can at LEAST mule across a full equipment setup. At the very least. Least.
Okay, I didn't think that through. But if you make it a huge stash, people aren't going to use it to transfer stuff--they're going to use it to store stuff. And that's what the 'normal' stash is for.
With that in mind, I reverse my position and agree 100% with the 'mail' idea for transferring.
A universial storage is also in GW. You have to pay to open it though for any new chars you make, but it's only like 50 gold. Besides GW and WoW IDK if there are any other games with universial storage.
Here is another idea: One COULD make a kind of universial storage BANK or some such instead of a storeage BOX. A bank of some type could be put in some of the towns. A storage BOX probably in some way points. Gah! I'm just rambling out an Idea. IDK if it would be worth it though.
As someone said before, wouldn't a shared stash be much easier? No mailbox (some people would complain it's too WoW'y) and no need to pay gold. Blizz said they are trying to make gold a more important part of D3, paying to transfer items from char to char might not be the best.

Destiny is no matter of chance, it is a matter of choice
Whats wrong with using the shared stash for storage?
Well, unless it was absurdly massive, it would give less overall space than each character having their own stash. If you were talking about having both...well, this is getting complicated now, lol. I'm really curious how Blizzard's going to handle this.
It's kind of a catch 22. Make the stash(es) too small and people WILL make mules. Make storage infinite and you make things easier for the websites that sell in-game items.
gw system was best. each character had a big inventory, and betwixt them all was a shared stash, called a Xun Lai storage box or something like that. But I think the stash the chars share should only be a 4x4 space.
i had two cd keys and two windows up for xfering. haha kust so i would never have to deal with those problems
lol well all of us arent as fortunate as you are to be able to do that haha.
And to go back to that NPC Messanger idea, That would be a great idea for that it fits in to the whole Diablo theme very well syaing NPCs are a big role in the gameplay. There could be a mail box in each town were you could go pick up an item or whatever you had sent to you at...( For all you mail box idea people lol) But i just think having the messanger would be a very easy way to do it and it would be original so we would be staying away from WoW. Not saying WoW is bad or anything but each game should have its own unique system.

haha well.. i didnt get that for a long time after i started playing. i lost soo many items /runes. and it wasnt even from people finding my stuff, its was because i logg on and off so many times too fast :/
Diablo 3 has to have shared storage, I don't see how it won't... games these days all have it. In Guild Wars after you played for a little bit and got some money you just went to NPC and purchased access, I see D3 having the same method. After all people are always asking for a shared stash included in the D2 patches,
Blizzard knows a shared storage thing is what the fan base wants, unless this is also gets confused like the art style thing with rainbows and pretty things

Or you could take it a step further regarding option 2... say you want to send your items to another char so you must defend the caravan that has your items (they mentioned that'd be the type of quests we will be doing). If you fail, you can try again or take your item back (not lost).
This will also force you to make better decisions about what you want to send.
I sense there will be hate, just thinking out loud.

I think I prefer your second idea since it sounds less WoWish and seems to naturally fit the Diablo Universe
Just having a mailbox in the middle of town would look a bit out of place.
