With all this talking and speculation going around of the new D3 graphics, and with all of these pointless petitions being signed and etc.... we are a top news story for yahoos front page in title "games fans outraged" and the way they interpret the game is in a very negative way, i understand of all the complaints, but ive always been against it, leave the game to the producers ( in the end: they know what their doing, even a little change wont be mad, we cant stick to old school always). I myself am a hardcore fan of D3 ive been playing it since it first came out in 1997, until recently, the last thing i would want for us D3 fans is to be downplayed, and made of mockery for other websites ( and its not only yahoo) other websites have done the same thing. Its sad for people who dont no diablo or are just introduced to it get to see that and make a first impression towards diablo by what other websites have about it. (thats the stage i didn't want this speculation about the graphics coming too), where now it says that everyones angry about the new style and design of diablo, what do you wanna do cancel the game, change it (thats why im saying leave it to the company, stop this bs *sorry to say* petition things, it only goes against us true fans
You do realize that this is by far not the only site where people are unhappy with the graphics direction..? Can you actually point to anywhere where they have specifically mentioned this site? The people unhappy on the Blizzard forums have been kept a bit quieter seemingly by all the immature WoW kiddies who come screaming in with insults and personal attacks over there but apart from that there are unhappy people everywhere.
I think it's pretty stupid that a few people (in comparison) are causing the "media" to throw something that is quite small of a problem out of proportion. But I guess that is what the media is best at... Taking something that very few people actually care about and making it seem like it's something that everyone should be alert about.

With all this talking and speculation going around of the new D3 graphics, and all of these pointless petitions being signed, we have become a top news story for on Yahoo's front page in a story titled "Games Fans Outraged".
In the article, Yahoo interprets the reception to Diablo 3 in a very negative way. I can understand all the complaints, but we should leave the game decisions to the developers at Blizzard. In the end, they know what their doing. Small changes are going to be made; they're not just going to re-create Diablo 2 with updated graphics for obvious reasons.
I consider myself a hardcore fan of the Diablo Series. I've been playing since it first came out in 1997 and, until recently, the last thing I would want for us Diablo fans is to be made a mockery of on other websites -- and it's not only yahoo, other websites have done the same thing.
It's depressing that people who don't know anything about the Diablo series and are just being introduced to it for the first time are getting bombarded by all of the negative "first impression" publicity websites are writing about it.
What do you want to do, cancel the game? Change it? We should just trust Blizzard to design the game and stop complaining and writing these ridiculous petitions.
(Please note: I do not in any way agree with the OP)

ur a idiot along with all of the other people who are complaining.. 1st of all. WATS WRONG WITH THE GRAPHICS?!?!?!??! blizzard is digging into 3D now kiddies.... Also the only reason why it was dark in D2 and D1 was because guess wat... IT WAS NIGHT TIME! U guys are fucking whiners.... D3 had plenty of gore.. i seen someone get there bodies ripped in half by the last boss in the 20 min gameplay video.. Wats wrong with a little sun? u act like there was no sun in D2.. guess wat there was dumb shits... By the way i like ur signature Corwyn u stupid shit the only difference is that the shoulder pads have shrunk.. Ur a fucking retard and so are the other 40000 people who signed those stupid ass petitions.. This has gone far enuff first the petitions NOW THIS SHIT IS ON YAHOO FRONT PAGE!! CMON PEOPLE!!! blizzard did us a favor by making diablo 3 and a lot of u guys dont see that... so think about this next time u guys fucking complain dumb shit heads kthxbye
Diablo fans really only care about one thing, their game. If they feel the game lacks somehow, they are entitled to voicing their concerns. Whether or not the developers heed the suggestions are another thing altogether. Why should the word of so-called 'gaming-news' sites be more valid and have more weight than what actual fans, who have played the franchise for a decade, have to say? There is but one conclusion to gaming news sites and blogs (who cater primarily to gaming fans) putting down gaming fans. It is something called biting the hand that feeds you.

I watched that video and heard nothing that was meant to put down gaming fans. It sounded like they were helping get the word out about the opinions coming from this site. And you know what, it worked! I was bothered by the WoW-esque graphics, and I wouldn't have found that petition or this site had it not been for the gaming news sites you hate so furiously. Maybe you're overreacting a touch.
It's obviously not specifically targeted at the Yahoo video, but for sites and blogs in general who claim to be the voice of gamers, whilst putting down gamers. The result of such acts are not an overreaction.

So if it doesn't relate to the article we're discussing why did you decide to bring it up?
Maybe you need to read my post in context of the point the OP was trying to make up there:
in 1997, until recently, the last thing i would want for us D3 fans is to be downplayed, and made of mockery for other websites ( and its not only yahoo) other websites have done the same thing
Can't we all just settle that we each have our own opinion. Some of us are unsettled by the new art direction, it's clearly visible and yahoo showed a good example. But you can't tell us that we should sit here and watch Blizzard make these changes. When they made the announcement and showed us the video, it goes like this "this is our new game, this is how it looks, this is how it plays, this is what you get".
It is completely up to us to make comments, this is what Blizzard wants - our opinions!
For 30000+ to sign a petition means there is truly something amiss here.
Yes Blizzard make good games. Yes I look forward to Diablo 3. No I do not like this new blue and green overlay look.
Whiners whining about whiners, are we not allowed our own opinions? Is your opinion more valuable than our own?
Wouldn't worry about people like fatality, probably only responding because he knows he falls into the category I mentioned earlier that is so prevalent on the official site! I don't think the site is mocking anyone, just reporting the news (if a bit late), its great people are still covering the issue and bringing it up.

And since this Yahoo news story is the reason I was able to find the petition it appears as though it's working the way it's supposed to.
I'm a proud supporter of a dark, scary, hellish Diablo 3. It's about hell for christ's sake, let's see some mutilated corpses in the background!
The only reason diablo fans are the only ones getting bitched at for voicing their "opinion" is because the petition was prematurely put up like a day or two after the video was shown with photoshops of their game in black and white. Then people see it and go cool I like what I see and signs up with no regards to whether it was photoshopped out of context with what Blizzard had in mind.

Whether it's out of context or not is irrelevant for the overall goal of the petition. Particularly the lighting system. I was a big fan of the light radius from the old games, and the concepts that include shadows from the character's perspective look totally badass. I signed the petition because the game has far too much color and not nearly enough disemboweled corpses.
lol i've said this in other threads.. can't stress it enough..
be happy that the game is coming out- period.
don't like it? simply don't buy it when it comes out
One could obviously take the position of not purchasing the game come release. Should a sufficiently large number choose to do so, that would send a clear message to Blizzard that they are in error for ignoring their customer base.
However, such an exercise would only ensure that Blizzard listen to their customers on issues pertaining to whatever game they are developing next. This will do little for what has already been released. Should the concerns of fans be found to be accurate, it would be too late to do anything drastic to improve the situation. The game gets released without the quality demanded by some of its customers. Whether this impact sales is irrelevant, a far greater damage would be made to the image of Blizzard. As such, the company will reposition itself better for future projects with respect to the comments of its fans.
Many believe that by voicing their concerns at this moment, early in the development phase of the game, there is a greater chance that painful alterations can be made without jeopardizing either a successful launch or the quality of the final product. The game gets released with the quality demanded by some of its customers. Those who agree or disagree on the change will play it regardless. But Blizzard will not suffer as greater damage to its credibility as a result.
On the other hand, should the concerns of fans be found to be baseless, the company will be vindicated of their original position. As such, future projects would be accepted by a more trusting fanbase. The game gets released with the original intent, and at the level of quality similar to past games. Everyone plays it, and Blizzard maintains its reputation.
But should the concerns of fans be found to be wholly inaccurate, and which the company unwillingly kowtowed to regardless of their beliefs, the game gets released with a lower quality than was expected by the fanbase. The cannibalistic backlash to fan complaints as a result of this, will give Blizzard the vindication and newly converted fanbase it needs to ensure that future projects be made according to the company's own decisions. The game gets played no matter what, and the attention garnered from the fuss kicked up by fans will not hurt the company either, since those who have yet to experience the Diablo franchise, would be more inclined to do so due to the hype.
In all those scenarios, there is this great tug of war between both Blizzard and its loud fanbase. Both strives for quality. Both want success. Both communicate in one way or the other their intent and position. So it does not matter should this project succeed or fail, either due to Blizzard or their fans, because both will ultimately come out triumphant in the end.
This unfortunately directly contradicts your statement of where fans should 'stay quiet' and simply accept things as they are, and hope that the game gets released in a proper state. Fans will be unhappy, but rather than voice their concerns, they will simply walk away from both the game and the company. Blizzard meanwhile will be left to pick up the pieces. They will develop another game, and with more silent customers looking on, gamble on whether their game will be as successful as their previous ventures... all the while wondering what their customers are really thinking...
I signed the petition and I don't regret it one bit. Why? 1/2 say no change, the other half say change. So what's Blizzard going to do? Change it of course so both sides are happy, or a least most. Who would release a game with half of the fan base discouraged? Not Blizzard that's for sure. I don't really see a point in discussing this anymore, it's been heard world wide. But, the discussion wont end (and yes I'm still here as well) until there is a presented solution. Simply "not buying it" won't do blizzard any good since they rely on most of their fans, not 1/2.

Yes indeed, lets us do that instead.
